Chapter 11 The Green Bank Organization
[Three months later, Titan]
It is an orange planet located on the bright rings of Saturn. It is the largest moon of Saturn, so it was known centuries ago. There has long been speculation that life may have existed on this moon, as it has an atmosphere as dense as Earth's, vagaries of clouds and vast oceans. However, its temperature is so low that the surface is just over -170 degrees Celsius: it is not water that makes up the clouds and the oceans, but liquid methane, the main component of natural gas. Of course, there may be some unknown and very different form of life that can survive in this environment, who knows?
Titan has a slow climate change. Spring, summer, autumn and winter, with a cycle of 30 years. Like Earth, while it is winter in the Northern Hemisphere, it is summer in the Southern Hemisphere. In the summer, storm clouds will form in the polar regions and rain in the mid-latitudes. Such intense storms often occur after long droughts, with rainfall reaching tens of centimeters at a time, temporarily forming lakes near the equator. On a larger time scale, the oceans and lakes on Titan are moving back and forth between the northern and southern hemispheres on a 100,000-year cycle, which is why there are far more lakes and oceans in the northern hemisphere than in the southern hemisphere in Titan.
If you stand on Titan, you'll see the massive Saturn occluding nearly half of the sky, with bright rings of Saturn bisecting the entire sky in two. The layered structure of Saturn's rings is impressively revealed, either light or dark, dense or sparse. If you're lucky, you'll see the Sun rise over Saturn's horizon like a pearl 1.4 billion kilometers away. Walking through the equatorial region, as far as the eye can see, there are mostly sand dunes and mountainous hills, and the ground is scattered with round ice and rocks, which is desolate and interesting under the orange sky.
Titan is truly a planet with a different flavor, but its visitors are not in the mood to appreciate its beauty......
"We arrived, and the 223 landing craft called the Orion space station to request docking."
"The 'Orion' space station was received, and dock 09 was opened."
The Orion space station is heavily armored and well-defended, but as it reaches its sixteenth year of service, many of its designs are outdated, not to mention offensive, and not powerful enough to meet the needs of the battlefield. Therefore, on the eve of the lunar colonization war, it was sent to Mars to undertake a scientific expedition, and narrowly escaped, but it was also falsely accused of being behind the attack on Mine 26. After the collapse of the Combined Fleet, it and the three remaining ships of the fleet came to Titan, where they joined up with the advance team stationed in Titan to form the Green Bank organization, which absorbed the remnants of the G64 and the League of Nations. But three months on, with the exception of the 223 landing craft, no spacecraft has visited.
"How many more do we have?" Blake asked Colonel Wayne with a solemn face.
"Titan's advance team, plus a battalion on the Orion space station and the Martian advance team, as well as the remnants of the three spacecraft, barely a thousand people."
"That battalion ...... on the Orion," Blake choked.
"They're Wehrmacht – would you like to meet them?"
Blake nodded.
Entering the space station, the group transferred to another landing craft and came to the surface of Titan, where a base was built. Built at Titan's North Pole, the base was originally a research station that was converted into a military base by the advance team members stationed in the lunar colonization war as the last bastion of the G64. Conditions within the site are limited, but with Titan's abundant natural gas resources, energy is not a primary concern. What they lack most at the moment is a powerful weapon.
Blake and his party entered the base and came to a hall where more than 400 people had been waiting for a long time. When they saw Blake, they immediately formed a neat phalanx, dressed in unison, standing upright, without the slightest appearance of remnants.
Blake walked across the front row of the line, patted a young man on the shoulder, and asked, "How old is that?"
"Nineteen."
"What about your relatives?"
"They're all dead."
Blake was silent and walked to the next young man.
"How old are you?"
"Twenty-two."
"Do you have any relatives?"
"There's an older brother."
"Where is he?"
"Captured by Olympus, I don't know if it's dead or alive."
Blake didn't dare to ask any more, he walked to the front of the phalanx, silently staring at the group of young people in front of him with an average age of less than 25 years. After a long time, he said, "Everyone, we have all lost a lot."
One soldier couldn't hold back any longer and began to sob. First one, then many, and a desolate aura permeated the soldiers. The veteran at the front of the line covered half of his face with a helmet, and it could be seen that his eyes were already red.
Blake held back his emotions and said to everyone in a trembling voice: "You are the last spark for the Wehrmacht."
The veteran took away the helmet in front of him, hesitated for a long time, and asked tentatively, "Sir, what should we do?"
Blake thought for a moment and replied firmly, "Resist to the end."
Outside the base, storm clouds began to gather again, and the wind continued to increase. The methane rain began to pour in the distance, and there was no thunder, only the sound of rustling rain that resounded throughout the atmosphere.
Colonel Wayne said, "I think the soldiers need a leader......"
Before the words fell, the veteran said in a loud voice: "We strongly support Director General Black."
As soon as they heard this, the soldiers responded one after another: "We firmly support Director General Black!" A strong sound seemed to tear the roof off.
Blake's eyes were also red, he motioned for the soldiers to be quiet, raised his head, clenched his fists, and said, "Now I announce that your number has been changed to the first battalion of the Group of 64 Defense Forces. I will, I will not disappoint you and lead you to victory. ”
"Victory!" The veteran took the lead in shouting.
The soldiers immediately shouted: "Victory!"
At this time, a face outside the hallway was quietly watching all this, and he chuckled, shook his head, and walked away, sneaking into a communication room.
On the radio, a voice asked him, "Have you thought about it?"
"Think about it, Commander Morant, I volunteered to join Olympus, I don't know when your promise will be fulfilled?"
"I have always been a trustworthy person, and after the deed is completed, there will be no shortage of money and official positions."
"Good." The man hung up the radio and snickered alone.
