Chapter 56: Hijacking the Train
July 6th: Early in the morning, the fog condenses on the plains, like a thin layer of gauze gently covering the western land. When the first rays of dawn lifted the clouds, it spread silently again, enveloping the whole world in a hazy and mysterious atmosphere.
It was an extraordinary day in Blackwater, and before the townspeople had even started their day's routine, Sergeant Dunbar led a group of police officers to line up in front of the train platform, and ten minutes later, a green train slowly moved along with the cheers of the people.
"Send my cavalry to follow the train, Mr. Lang can't make any mistakes." Looking at the white smoke from the train away, Sergeant Dunbar said to the deputy beside him.
Northwestern Ambarino State, Coulter Village:
"What can you do? I said it, you can't go. β
In front of John was Bibo's unwilling face, "I can help you set up explosives to stop the train, but if you can't do it, I'm lying on the tracks, so there is no reason for the train to stop." β
John was shocked: "This matter is not negotiable. β
β¦β¦
This was the first step in a plan for revenge, and with a wave of John's hand, he stepped onto the black pearl and pulled the mask around his neck to his face.
"Gentlemen, ladies, let us go!"
A heavy snowfall had covered the road the other day, and John rode in the front, while the other four followed in the footsteps he had walked, no one spoke, and the five remained silent with each other.
Halfway through, snow began to fall in the sky, and John kicked the horse in the belly and picked up speed.
"What is the division of labor? John. Miller couldn't bear the loneliness and asked at the back of the line.
"I haven't been there yet, I haven't made a plan, and according to the schedule, the train should pass there at noon, so there's plenty of time for us to plan." John stared at the snowflakes flying in the air, "No matter what, against Pinkerton's people, we'd better not be brutal, those cunning guys must be on guard, and rushing directly is to die." β
"Let's take a look at the terrain before we get an idea." Miller said.
When the sun rose in mid-air, John and his party climbed a hill, and below the hill was a short train tunnel, and along the railway, a water tower stood alone at the corner, which should be the pass through which the train would pass, and it was indeed a place to go.
John looked down at his pocket watch, which he had picked up from the Strawberry Town Market, three hours before the train arrived.
"John, listen."
A low, muffled sound came from a distance, and it didn't take long for it to transform into a mechanical roar, and when the water tower was turned, a behemoth appeared before the Van der Linde gang, and the shrill whistle carried the entire train towards the tunnel.
"Why is the train coming so early?"
John threw away the timetable that Angel had given him, and it seemed that the information on it was not accurate, "I almost missed it." β
Just as John was hesitating whether to attack the train, sparks suddenly burst out of the bushes beside the tracks, leaving countless bullet holes in the iron sheet and windows of the train. Accompanied by gunfire and collisions, dozens of masked bandits poured out of the woods and stepped on broken glass all over the ground and climbed onto the train.
Who are these people? John thought a little about it and came up with the answer - the Odrysco Gang.
Miller also recognized: "It seems to be an old enemy!" Why are these guys here? What now, John? β
John watched the locomotive approach, saying that he didn't expect the Odrysco gang to get involved.
"βjump."
Either way, any passing train could have Berquette Long on board, and John jumped first, enveloped in the white steam that spewed from the train's chimney.
"Are you alright?" John got up from a pile of coal, where the locomotive was located, and he shook his head, but fortunately he was still conscious, "No one is hurt." β
"Guys, you've seen Odrysco's men, and we're not just going to have to deal with the train guards." Seeing that the gang members had landed safely on the train, Miller began to analyze the current situation, "It seems that both types of people are more difficult to deal with. β
Mr. Fowler jumped down with a rifle, but it was clear that the rifle had been lost on his landing, and he was not discouraged, "There is no need, there is no need to make enemies with both forces at the same time, we will wait here for a while, and when the number of people on both sides is reduced, we will go and pick up the ready-made." β
"Good idea...... Do you want me to keep the train driver under control? Miller asked.
"No, let the train go for a while."
John looked at the back cars of the train, which were freight cars in addition to the lavishly decorated private compartments, and if the train came to rest on a certain section of the railway, the police would soon surround it, "When the train stops, we are turtles in the urn, let it moveβat least the pursuers should keep it moving at the same speed as we do." β
"Before the driver notices us, let's take a break and wait for the Olympic gang and the guards to fight for a while." John added.
"Mr. Jedsand, Mrs. Mansda, let's go and see if Berquerque is on this train." John looked at Miller and Streich.
The three of them bent down to the freight car and hid in a relatively hidden wooden box, which was less than ten steps from the passenger car. John cautiously poked his head out to observe the situation on the other side of the passenger compartment as Odrysco's helpers entered the compartment one after another, closing the door when the last man entered.
"Damn, this group of people has closed the door, and now whoever is left will be able to resist in the corner. Looks like you can't get through the door, Streich, please go to the top of the car in front of you and see if there is an entrance to enter. β
"I'll do it anyway, Lady Manstar has done enough today." Miller stopped Streich, who was about to get up......
A little over five minutes later, Miller returned to John and Streich.
"Miller, have you found your way to the box?"
"Not at the moment, but fortunately you didn't stop the train, I saw at least twenty horsemen following behind, and now they're almost on board." Miller gasped and looked flustered.
"It seems that the police in Blackwater are not taking it lightly."
"What to do with these guys? The members of the Olympic Gang have all entered the box, and only we are exposed, and the police will definitely see us first. β
"I have my own way."
John pulled out his revolver and stepped out of cover to the rear of the train, and as he passed the passenger compartment, he saw that the door was indeed tightly locked, and there was a sound of smashing and looting from inside.
"These beasts!" John cursed secretly.
John then flipped his pistol, slammed the door with the iron hilt, and shouted, "The police are coming!" β
The gate remained closed, but the Odrisko gang inside did not hold their breath, smashing the windows on both sides and pouring bullets like a moving fortress, causing several cavalrymen to fall from their horses.
When the mounted police in the back saw their companions fall off their horses, they immediately slowed down and retreated out of range of the Austrian gang. Bullets swept through like meteors, and the cavalry kept a distance from the train and never took a step forward.
The two sides were at a stalemate, and as the train was about to enter a forest called Cumberland Woods, a horse-drawn carriage from the direction of Valentine followed behind the cavalry, and a police officer in the carriage operated a Maxim machine gun, apparently reinforced by the police.
"Brothers, provide cover, the big guy is coming!" The cavalry captain shouted.
John retreated behind cover, he knew the power of the Maxim machine gun, and he didn't want to be its target. But the Odrysco gang in the carriage had no choice, and the machine gunners spun the wheel, and the bullets sliced through the living creatures like sharp blades.
"Be careful not to hurt Berqueque Long." The cavalry captain shouted, but it was too late, the Heavy seemed to be immersed in the killing, and he didn't stop until the Odrysko gang ran out of breath.
"Damn, Berqueque may have become a sieve, this train full of corpses is going to Lemonne, and we can't get along - withdraw!" The cavalry captain said to his companions, and a dozen horsemen left the railway.
John was also very surprised to see this scene, didn't the police care about Berquette Lang? If you want to see people alive and die to see corpses, they just abandon them.
The door was still closed, and we had to find a way to get into the box. John saw a brown Tennessee horse running parallel to the train, and he landed firmly in the saddle with the help of the roof of the horse, and then jumped into the broken window of the train.
