Chapter 59: Winter is coming
November 27, 1902: We simply packed up, picked up the erroneous trip that had been delayed for several days, and finally mustered up the courage to step out of the village of Coulters.
In the days since I rescued Berquette Long, I have been so busy with all kinds of gang affairs that I have no leisure time of my own. After the middle of the month, two heavy snowfalls locked us in our cabins, and I stopped for a while.
One day after the heavy snowfall, William Brown stepped into my house and told me that the snow that had just passed symbolized the arrival of winter, and that the whole western part of Griezri would be a frozen land in winter, and suggested that we leave the village of Coulter while the last warm autumn sun was coming......
I decided to take his advice and embark on the journey back from the snow-capped mountains before the arrival of December, and ended my life in the village for half a year with this diary.
"Lady Manstar, I'll return your shawl, and you'll be left unfed for warmth in a while." After helping the men carry the boxes, Catherine reluctantly took off her bearskin wraps.
Stridge, who was riding the Sweet Girl around the area, smiled and waved her hand at Catherine's sarcastic expression, "Keep it, Miss Karen, I think I can withstand the cold." β
The conversation between the two reached Kyle, who was already in the carriage by this time, "I apologize, ladies, I should have made a shoulder wrap for everyone before coming here, I didn't think it through." β
John saw this too, and looked down at his watch again, and it was time to go.
"It's not your fault, let's go! Stay away from this cold. β
Stridge and John chatted as they walked ahead of the caravan, and they were tasked with checking for possible dangers in the road ahead, especially the Pinkerton Detectives, who knew that the migration of so many people was no joke.
At noon, everyone stepped out of the last snow, breathing in the smell of all kinds of feces from the green world, but everyone was in a good mood, and Grimes hummed a little song leisurely, and then everyone sang along with her.
At some point, Mr. Fowler rode out of the song to join John: "I can't believe we're back in the South. β
"Unlike in the past, this time we are on the hunt. Things have dragged on for too long, and it's time to wrap things up. John confidently looked into the distance.
"You've got the Berquette Lang chip this time, and I have no reason to say you're reckless."
"My plan has been going on with precision, and I have a hunch that we're going to go back to civilization and face off against Owen Smith."
"I've spent most of my life on horseback, and I don't have the temper to learn in the city." Mr. Fowler said with some embarrassment.
"I don't care, if Owen dares to appear in the wilderness, I'll cut him with a thousand knives at once. If this guy doesn't dare to come out unless he hides in St. Denis, then I'll put on a suit and bow tie and kill him in a civilized way. β
"Irving Smith doesn't know where we are yet, but it won't be long before he discovers that Coulter Village is our last stop. You'll have to find a new camp to house everyone, John. β
Yes, finding a new camp was a top priority, and everyone was still singing, but John Flawless was immersed in the wonderful atmosphere......
As the convoy drifted out of the mountainous area as a buffer zone into the endless plain of Grizri, where the mountains of the Great Valley were in sight, John decided to "visit" Angel, the stationer, at Wallace Station, not far away.
"Mr. Lang, let's go and meet someone, he almost helped me stop your train, but in the end this kid secretly did it as if his conscience had found out."
"Even so, I'm not going to thank him." Berqukeke quipped in the back.
The two came to the outside of Wallace Station, John pulled out his pistol, he just wanted to scare Angel, and he didn't mean too much, "I'm looking forward to hearing what kind of rhetoric this guy uses." β
John mentally counted the seconds, then pushed the door open.
In front of the platform was another immature face, much younger than Angel's, and the young man froze in fright at the sight of this scene, and only spoke for a moment.
"I ...... There's not much money here. β
Apparently not the man he was looking for, John put away his gun.
"Do you know a person? He works here under the name of Angel. β
"Oh, are you looking for Cousin Nikolai? He went back to Rhodes to take care of his mother, and I came to replace him. The young man gave John a timid look and continued, "Nikolai left a note saying that it would be kept secret from everyone until an anonymous gentleman appearedβI'm not sure if it was you, but you had better look, I don't want to delay his big business." β
John took the note from the young man for some time.
To the unnamed gentleman:
As you can see, I quit my job as a station clerk, both because my mother was seriously ill and needed my care, and because I was concerned about my personal safety.
Sometimes I really sigh at our encounter, the information I provided was an accident for you, and your visit was an accident for me. I think you should know that I gave you the wrong timetable for the last time you came to me, but the major newspapers eventually published the news of Berquque's disappearance, and whether you were involved in the hijacking of the train or not, I reflect on it every day.
Oh, by the way, all the money you bribed me was, I gave to Valentine's Charity Society, so I can live the rest of my life without any guilt.
Good luck, sir.
Angel Nikolai
"This kid has a bit of a conscience." John said.
"Mr. Coster, I'm a little curious what the newspapers will do to report my disappearance." Berqueque, who had been silent, spoke.
"You'll find out when you go to town and buy a newspaper."

John placed the family near the Six Point Cottage in Cumberland Woods, where there were many bandit gangs, but the well water did not interfere with the river water, which was a tacit agreement belonging to the outlaws of this era, and created peace between the lawless.
