Chapter 78: Giants
"Hagrid, did you hit the giant?" asked Hermione in a whisper.
"I went with Olim to find the giants, and they were big, you know, very easy to find. β
"Where are they?" said Ron.
"On the hill. Hagrid said helplessly.
"Hurry up, Hagrid," Ron urged, "and the professor will tell you the story of him and Harry being attacked by the Dementors." β
"What?" Hagrid was shocked, "Gildero, you've been attacked by the Dementors? β
"It's not much, send it away, and Harry can handle it alone. Lockhart replied, "Tell me why the giants hit you." β
"Oh, Hagrid, that's unhygienicβlet's go find Madame Pom. Hermione began, but Hagrid had already slapped the flesh on her bruised eyes.
He took another big sip of tea and said, "Well, we'll be off as soon as last semester is over--"
"Olim and I. You know, she was a noble, well-dressed woman, and I knew where we were going, and I was worried that she wouldn't be able to stand the things like climbing rocks and sleeping in caves, but she took it on without complaint. β
"Do you know where you're going?" Harry repeated, "you know where the giant is?"
"Well, Dumbrador knows, he's suing us," Hagrid said.
"Are they hiding somewhere?" Ron asked, "That's a secret, isn't it? Where are they?"
"Not exactly," said Hagrid, shaking his unkempt head, "except that if they were far enough away, the other wizards didn't bother to pay attention to where they were." However, their location is very difficult to get to, and it is quite difficult for humans to think about it anyway, which is why we need Dumbledore's instructions. It took us a month to get to--"
"Hagrid, I just want to know why the giants rejected you, did they promise the Death Eaters?" Lockhart didn't want to know these details.
"Well, here we are, Dijon that place - found the giant. β
"How big are they?" asked Ron quietly.
"About six or seven meters tall," Hagrid said casually, "some of the tall ones may be eight meters." β
"And how many of them there are?" asked Harry.
"Seventy or eighty, I think," Hagrid said.
"That's all?" Hermione asked.
"Yes," said Hagrid sadly, "there were only eighty left, and there were many of them before, at least a hundred different tribes scattered all over the world. But they've been dying out for a long time, and the wizards have killed a lot, of course, but mostly because they're killing each other, and now they're dying faster. They can't get used to living so close together. Dumbrador said it was all our fault, that the wizards had forced them to move away from us, and that there was no other way for them to live together for their own safety. β
"And after that?" Lockhart urged.
"Then following Dumbledore's instructions, I gave them gifts. β
"What was sent. Hermione tried not to look at Lockhart.
"A forever burning twig, Dumbledore's. β
"Burn forever?" Hermione was interested, how.
"It's not burning forever, Hermione, it's just that it burns for hundreds of years, and when the magic runs out, it goes out. As a professor, Lockhart couldn't help but give her popular science, "Didn't you listen to the lectures this semester?" β
Hermione turned her head angrily, as if she didn't want to explain to Lockhart.
"Well, I don't know very well," Hagrid said quickly, "Anyway, the giants are glad that they think they will burn forever." β
"And then. Harry asked anxiously.
"Then as Dumbledore instructed, I'm going to deliver another gift every other day. β
"Why didn't you talk to them that day?" asked Hermione.
"Dumbrador told us to take our time," Hagrid said, "let them know that we are trustworthy, 'send another gift tomorrow', and then tomorrow we will go and send another giftβit will make them think we are trustworthy, you see? β
"But, that very night, something bad happened. β
"What do you mean?" asked Ron.
"There seems to be a strong Death Eater, and possibly the mystery man himself. "He came and killed the old chieftain, and then raised another, and then the giants stopped wanting to see us." β
Hercules sighed deeply.
"We tried to talk to the new leader after the Death Eater left, but it was clear that he had fallen under the Imperius Curse or something, and he wanted to attack us. β
Hermione covered her mouth with her hands.
"How did you get out?" asked Harry.
"Olim attacked him," Hercule said, "she drew her wand, I've never seen anyone cast spells so fast, they're so handsome, but we use magic against them, and that's what the giants hate wizards the most, and we can only run away, because we know we can't go back to their territory." β
"Oh my God, Hagrid," Ron whispered.
"But, since you've only been there for three days, why did you come back so late?" asked Hermione.
"We didn't just stay for three days!" Hagrid said angrily, "Dumbador is counting on us!"
"We went to find the lone giant," said Hagrid, "but the new leader drove us away......"
Hagrid looked at the crowd sadly.
"So...... So the giants are the enemy?" said Ron disappointed.
"Enemy, we should find a way to destroy. Lockhart clenched his fist, "You can't be soft on them." β
"Professor. After a moment, Hermione whispered.
"Huh?" Loha looked at Hermione deliberately, she hadn't spoken to him in days.
"You can't deal with the giants, they may be the last giants. Hermione said weakly, her eyes on the ground.
Hagrid and Lockhart were staring straight at her, and Hermione looked a little scared.
"Hermione was right, Gildero. Hagrid spoke, "I know you have a way, but you can't exterminate the giants. β
"I'm sorry...... Hagrid, I wouldn't have thought of that. Lockhart had forgotten that Hagrid and the giants were related by blood.
"Hagrid, have you seen your mother? Hermione asked tentatively.
"Dead," Hagrid muttered, "died many years ago...... They sued me. β
"Oh...... I...... I'm really sorry," Hermione's voice was barely audible, and Hagrid shrugged his broad shoulders.
"No," he said simply, "I don't remember her very much, not a good mother." β
