Chapter 3: The Stranger
After leaving Aunt Lanna's bakery, Ilore continued to wander around the city like a shopping mall.
"The latest twenty-tooth gear! New in the Transition Zone! Definitely for a whitewater meter! Don't miss it when you walk by! ”
"Daily! Daily! The latest Olyton report is here! Sir, would you like one? ”
Ilore shook his head, and the newsboy walked away playfully.
People who don't have the slightest vision can have a hard time living in the lower districts, and the newsboy is obviously not such a person, so he turned his head and continued to sell to the lady next to him.
As I walked along the road, I passed an alley, and there were many alleys in the lower area, and basically every building was in between.
Suddenly, a hand reached out from the alley and put a "whew" on his shoulder.
Ilore's hand reached into his coat for a moment, and he turned his head to look at the owner of the hand.
It was a man in an overcoat with a visible scar on his face, and with his other hand he lifted his own clothes, which were covered with gears of various sizes.
"Hey! Friend, you come in first. ”
The man pulled Ilor into the alley, "These are the goods in the transition zone, but they are twenty-one teeth, and they definitely fit your family's meter, you know what I mean!" ”
Ilore certainly knew, how could a vasteam teacher not know what a cog would do in a meter.
That's definitely saving money!
Before Iloror could speak, the man continued, "Ah! How could you not understand this? If you have one more tooth, it will take more time to turn around, and the money will be paid..."
With that, the man raised his eyebrows, and then looked at Irore with an eager gaze.
Irore's hand naturally reached out from his coat, trying to wave it away to drive away the hawkers.
He knew that it was an absolute violation to change the number of teeth on the meter without permission, as it was well documented in the Steam Technology section of the Olyton Code.
Ilorore shook his head, he was a good law-abiding citizen, and he would never do such an evil thing as stealing chickens and dogs!
"Two pennies will buy three!" , the man added.
A minute later, he walked out of the alley, the pockets of his coat bulging, and they were three twenty-one-tooth gears...
......
Time flew by, and in the blink of an eye, the scorching sun in the sky began to sink into the iron walls of the moving city.
The sunlight in the lower area always disappears quickly, and every day, dusk only stays here for half an hour.
Ilor, who was walking home, was hurt by the arrow on his back.
"I'll have to wrap the arrows next time! Anyway, I can't hang it on my back like this for another day! ”
In the afterglow of Ilorore, in the distance, a dark shadow streaked by.
There was no sunshine anymore, and he couldn't see what it was.
"What's that?" Confused, he walked to the place where the thing had disappeared, his hand resting on the shaft of the arrow.
The place where the shadow disappeared was an alley, and Ilore gripped the arrow tighter, knowing that the lower districts near night would also breed danger, but he was still the adventurous teenager at heart.
He moved away from the sidewalk near the alley, crossed the street and looked into the alley from the other side.
The other end of the alley was sealed with a lot of garbage, and near the end of the alley, there was a dark figure hiding behind the garbage can.
The only light left in the dusk didn't help him see the figure behind the barrel, but it was not difficult to see that the dark shadow was shaking.
Ilore cautiously walked over, the arrow in his hand breaking away from the rope and hiding outside his coat.
"Squeak! Chirping! The shadow sensed someone coming, screamed in fright, and escaped from the trash can, which was a large rat with a piece of minced meat in its mouth.
"Heh... The big mouse..."Ilor, who had already walked into the alley, breathed a sigh of relief and said speechlessly: "Fighting wits with a mouse, tsk, what am I doing...."
The sound of his breath exhaling drowned out the already subtle footsteps behind him.
"Hmm!" A rag covered Ilore's mouth and nose, and before he could resist, he lost the ability to control his body....
.......
"Heh.... Call.... Whew...", Irol gasped for breath when he woke up, there was a man in front of him, he looked at the person in front of him, and felt very familiar.
He tried to get up and raised his hands to resist, but his hands and feet were firmly tied to the large iron chair.
"How are you!" The man in front of him was the vendor who sold him gear during the day, and he remembered the face with a long scar vividly.
"You don't have to know who I am, you don't have to ask who I am, you should understand that the initiative is in my hands." He said unhurriedly.
"Where did your arrows come from?"
"Picked it up on the ground." Ilore said lightly that he had completely lost the initiative, and he was a fish on the board, but he was a thinking fish.
"In the box? What box? ”
“?” There was a question mark in Ilore's mind, and the man did not say this, but he heard it clearly.
"Don't be confused, I probably know who you are. Who are you Carlo Camille? ”
"He's my father." Ilore knew he couldn't hide it from the man, he must have the ability to read minds.
This world is such a strange world, where technology and magic coexist, and even compete with each other.
It is worth mentioning that Ilore has read the history and origins of the old and new schools in the university books.
The old school believes that technology is a blasphemous taboo, while the new party believes that technology is the way to arm all mankind.
But the irony is that the old school enjoys the convenience of technology, and the leaders of the new party are all extraordinary.
"Don't be foolish, so your name is Ilore Camille? Or Calondo Camille? The man interrupted Ilore's ramblings and spoke.
"I'm Ilor, who is Calondo? Why don't you use that magic that is shouting in my head this time? It's magic, right? ”
Ilore wondered, he was not afraid, for there had been no malice in the man's eyes from the beginning.
"It seems that Carlo is really lucky.... That's exhausting... No, you're taking my words. The man reacted suddenly.
"Then who are you, what happened to my father, I never met him. Why did he abandon his mother"
The only thing Ilor knew about his father was from his late mother, who had not heard his father's name.
The man did not answer Ilore's question directly, but continued:
"You don't need to ask who I am, you don't need to know your father, you just need to know that he is a hero....
And I, you treat me as your father's... Friends, little ghost, I don't mean anything to you, I just want to ask you a little question, hehehe. ”
The man laughed and shook his hand, and the rope on Ilor's body was untied.
"What's that... Uh, the box, is there anything else in it? ”
"A bow, a leather backpack, a few of these arrows." Knowing that he couldn't hide it from the man, Ilore replied truthfully.
"Is there any, one, uh, black robe? It's long...."Before the man could finish his sentence, Ilore interrupted him.
"It's one with a round shield badge on it."
"That's right, you... I guess I haven't touched it, have I? Hey, hey, hey. The man laughed again.
"Touched it, what's wrong?" Ilore was puzzled again, and his doubts had never gone away since tonight.
The man's face turned cold.
"You have two choices, one is to join us, and the other is to do it..."
"I'll pick the first one!"
Before the man finished speaking, Ilore immediately replied, as far as his perennial online experience is concerned, the second choice generally has no good results.
"You made a wise choice."
He had wanted to clear Ilore's memory, but Ilore's preconceived notions were exactly what he wanted.
"This kid is a good seedling, but it's still much worse than his father... Old man, how good it would be that you're still here...."
The man fell into the memory, and from the look on his face, it was clear that the memory was not very good.
"You come here tomorrow to look for me, and come back after noon tomorrow, I still have something to do, so I'll go first."
The man recovered from his memories and hurried away, slipping a note into Ilore's bosom as he left.
.....
Ilore woke up again, still in the alley, surrounded by gray rats.
One of the daring ones even began to gnaw at his clothes.
Ilore raised his hand to chase away, and the rat ran away.
"Is it a dream?"
He looked at the coat on his chest, and there was a note pressed under the arrow.
The note read "Security Department of the Lower District of Olyton University" in a few crooked words.
"It seems to be magic, he said he was a friend of my father's and should be friendly, anyway, I have to go tomorrow to see, this is my only chance to get into magic." He secretly decided, got up and walked home.
The arrows were re-tucked into his coat, and the note was placed with the gears.
It was already completely dark in the lower level, and Ilore could only slowly return home from memory and a little vision.
What he didn't notice was that the man standing on the roof in the distance was just now,
"The vigilance is still not enough, and more training is needed." The man muttered to himself as he watched Ilore go away.
"Ahem! Forget it, next time I can't use my abilities casually, it's really tiring...."
The man said as he walked towards Ilol's opposite, he had more to do......
......
When Ilore came home, he didn't go to bed immediately, he always had the habit of staying up late.
He opened the box and took out the black robe, looked left and right, and found nothing famous.
Thinking back on the day, he felt that he had nothing to do, so he took out the gear in his pocket and prepared to replace the white water meter.
But he suddenly felt that something was wrong, and counted the teeth of the gears.
Twenty .....
It was no different from the original gear, and the disconnection was extremely noticeable.
"Inferior goods! It's okay, no problem, there are two more! There are two more, they can't be all bad, they won't! He consoled himself that the three gears cost him half of his entire fortune.
Obviously, in the conversation with the man, he did not discover the essence of the man's black heart.
Not surprisingly, it's all bad, and there's even one that's an old-fashioned nineteen-tooth gear from before the Economic Bill.
"Holy!!"
The crow outside the window was frightened by this exclamation, and suddenly spread its wings and flew into the sky.
The white moon hung high in the sky, through the window, and shone on Ilore's desperate face.
