Chapter Seventy-Four: What the Truth Is
This old house carries so many memories for me, I have lived here for twenty-two years.
My beautiful childhood, as well as my parents, and Granny Du, their shadows are still in this house......
Now you want me to move out, and you want me to live in a concrete house without human fireworks?
I sat in the empty hall with a gloomy face, looking at everything familiar in the room, as if I had returned to my childhood.
This is a wooden bungalow built in an unknown date.
I only know that this house was renovated once during the Republic of China, and because it was a company garrisoning here, it was rebuilt from a mountain temple here.
During the Republic of China, it also served as a field hospital and a military garrison.
The house I live in now is the only main building left after the founding of the People's Republic of China, and it is said that this house was the residence of the company commander at that time.
After the founding of the People's Republic of China, other buildings were demolished because they were no longer needed, so some of the original buildings on the periphery of the house disappeared and became a large courtyard that surrounded the house on all sides!
Because this house is built on the mountain, there is a path up the mountain in the backyard, and there is a mountain spring passing behind the house, and it is a wonderful thing to listen to the sound of the spring water and the chirping of cuckoos at night, and fall asleep deeply.
The house is a double sandwich wall with a raised floor and all wooden floors. So this house can really be warm in winter and cool in summer.
In this city where the heat can reach 40 degrees in summer, I hide in this insulated room, and I never use air conditioning in summer.
In winter, because the floor does not fall directly to the ground, but has a floor overhead, a stove fire is raised in the kitchen, and the stove fire leaves a passage to transmit heat to the whole house through the underground floor layer, which is equivalent to installing floor heating.
It's my whole childhood and school days, and the quality times I spent with my family!
When I was a child, my favorite thing was to lie on a large smooth stone slab behind the house in the spring, watching the sunflowers blooming all over the mountains, shining golden in the sun.
The white clouds overhead are so low that they seem to float right in front of your eyes through the leaves......
Originally, the owner of this house was Granny Du!
Granny Du, the date of birth is not clear, but everyone in this crematorium knows that she is the person who has lived in this place for the longest time.
After the house was nationalized after the founding of the People's Republic of China, and because there was still a boiler that was used to cremate the remains of the war, the place was converted into a crematorium.
But the old woman who lives in this house, Granny Du, has always lived here.
My dad was transferred to the army in the early 90s and assigned to drive a hearse in the crematorium, and at that time being able to drive was also a technical job, not like now, everyone can drive.
Therefore, it is reasonable for people who have driven cars in the army and are brave enough to be assigned to drive hearses in crematoriums.
Because he is not an old employee who has been in the crematorium since it was built, my father is not qualified to live in the staff building that was repaired in the crematorium before.
At that time, in order to settle the settlement, he resolutely agreed to live in this old house.
After the housing reform in 98, some people in the field began to buy houses on their own, or as welfare, the collective accumulation of funds to buy commercial and residential buildings for employees to live in.
But my dad has always been reluctant to live in a commercial building, although the commercial and residential buildings are much more modern, and it is not far from the crematorium, and it is only about ten minutes by car, but he is reluctant to go.
When my dad first moved in, there were actually three families living in this house.
One is Granny Du, she has always been only one person, and the other is also a staff member of the crematorium, who was not assigned to the dormitory for some reasons, and later moved away after the housing reform.
Anyway, when I was born, there were only my family and Granny Du in this house.
My life before I was seven or eight years old was basically with Granny Du, because my dad often went out in the car during the day, and there was only one car in the field at that time, so he was also very busy.
My mom doesn't like this place very much, and her health is not very good, so she blames her poor health on the fact that the house is too yin, so she seems to be in the hospital most of the time.
Although I didn't have much perception of birth, old age, sickness and death when I was a child, in my memory, it was Granny Du who took care of me a little more.
She was a not good-looking, gloomy old woman, who couldn't say two words a day.
But in this house, Granny Du and my dad, my mom, and I are like a family.
I remember that when I was seven years old, Granny Du died suddenly, and her future affairs were basically handled by the old director of the field and my father.
Because no one knows how old she actually is, anyway, I don't know how long the old man in her seventies has maintained.
The crematorium is a place where life and death are seen, so the people here are more or less respectful of the gods, although they don't say it in their mouths, they understand it in their hearts.
For Granny Du, even the old field chief understands that she seems to have a very important responsibility, and there must be a reason for her to leave here.
This seems to be an open secret, and everyone is stuck in a state where everyone can only understand and cannot be said.
So I was brought up as a student of Granny Du, and most of the so-called things that science can't explain, listen to my opinions.
Although I didn't actually get Granny Du's positive teaching about spirituality, it's really hard to say about this perceptual ability, and sometimes I can be blinded by it inadvertently.
It wasn't until I was eighteen years old that I officially became a migrant worker in the underworld, which opened the door to my spiritual world.
Everything here is already engraved in my mind, and I want to get out of here, from everything I know......
Besides, there are still my father, my mother and the ashes of Granny Du buried in the back of my house, if it is demolished here, it is not ......
No way! Absolutely not!
I thought about it and felt a little aggrieved, my nose and eyes were sore, and tears began to turn, but I forced myself back.
I was thinking about it, but I was awakened by a knock on the door, and I calmed down and got up to open the door.
Standing outside the door are Changchang Peng, Zhang Yi and Xiong Xin!
When Zhang Yi and Xiong Xin saw me like this, they seemed to know that I was full of tears and must be sad, and they both cast comforting glances at me.
Changchang Peng glanced at me, his face was light, and it seemed that he would never give up if he didn't take down me, a stubborn donkey today.
My face darkened, and I didn't want to say anything, so I went back to the table and sat down in a rage.
The last three also walked in silently and sat down for a while.
It seemed a little chilly at one point, although it should be thirty degrees today!
"It's so cold in your house!" It was Director Peng who took the lead in saying it.
"Save air conditioning costs, and now we are advocating environmental protection, my Peng Changchang!" I said it angrily.
"Hai Ling, what's the matter with you kid, you can't always stop the development of the field!"
"Development?" I stared at Peng Changchang, who was a little fat and full of middle-aged uncles, with a look of surprise, and said, "What is the development?" ”
"This is that you are ignorant, you see that our field has been for so many years, and the previous family buildings of our field next to your house have all been demolished, and now you occupy the land here with a house.
If this place is demolished, a large cemetery can be built in the back of this mountainous area.
Now that there are so many private cemeteries, what is the reason why we have a place to occupy a crematorium and not use it? ”
