Chapter 29: Dragon and Lion Cliff 1
The sun rises above the horizon and shines on your face from the bottom up, and it's a strange experience. Siegel stood on the platform at the entrance to the Peak of Mora's Cave, from where he had come to the Dwarven Kingdom two months earlier and had become a Champion of the Summit. Now, he's leaving from here again, and he's on his long-awaited adventure with Master Leah, the dwarf Eleinth, and the barbarian Dio from the Western Highlands.
Siegel was dressed in a thick fur robe with a new armor given to him by the dwarves underneath - a delicate black breastplate. The cuirass was smooth and flat, and the front and rear armor plates were made of pure steel and tied together with brute leather belts. The edge of the cuirass was plated with a layer of copper, and the chest was embellished with the emblem of the Champion of the Heights and Elint's personal signature.
In order to continue to keep Siegel moving, he did not wear armor from the waist down, but only wore thick warm cotton pants. The non-slip leather boots and fur gloves were new, and the gold belt was still tied around the waist. When Siegel stood on the snow-capped mountain platform and faced the sea of clouds with his head held high, he looked magnificent, handsome and chic. But his hair was now dyed brown, supple and shiny—a technique he had learned from Elsa's beauty.
In addition to the dagger that Sir Beer left him with was hidden in the barrel of his boots, Siegel's weapons were also brand new. As a warrior in the role of a sir, he needs to be able to handle a variety of combat situations. So he carried a longbow, broadsword, scimitar, hammer, axe, shield, and more than twenty arrows. Whether it is on the back, hanging on the waist or tied to the legs, and after counting the armor, these pieces of equipment weigh more than sixty pounds. If it is not a strong body that has been exercised, it is difficult to load it at all. You must know that this weight is enough to crush ordinary people, and it is difficult to walk for a long time, let alone fight at any time.
Leah is still an Elven Ranger's equipment, but with a new coat and arrows. Dio was persuaded by everyone to finally put on a pony coat over his naked top, but it made him look more powerful – and sexy. The barbarian carried the "Wild Blessing Giant Wooden Stick" from his tribe, eight throwing axes pinned to his belt, and was holding the curved-bladed broadsword newly given to him by the dwarves.
Ellint wore his family heirloom armor and looked even wider, like a moving lump. This armor is covered in dents, all of which are damage taken in previous battles. The dwarves remembered the history of every dent, and had told it all to Siegel, more than once.
In addition to these few people, there was a retinue of four people behind them. Elinth, the dwarf, organized every aspect of the adventure, including making plans and buying equipment, and of course, hiring an entourage of men - including coachmen, camp guards, messengers, and a servant who could cook. The four retinues are all from the Gem Clan and have been working for Elinte, and they can be trusted.
Eight men set out at dawn and descended from the gentle path at the top of Mora. The messenger was at the front of the line, his white coat embroidered with the golden coat of arms of the core nobles of the Gem Clan. So everyone else they meet—anyone who knows what the badge means—get out of the way and let them go first.
The descent was much faster, and they bought a wagon, two mules and a horse halfway up the mountain. The coachman came in handy, and he drove forward so that the adventurers could have a good rest. The messenger rode his horse back and forth, both to reconnoiter and to arrange a post for his stay.
When they came to the foot of the mountain, they turned north, and along the edge of the mountain, the tall peaks stood on their west side, so that every afternoon the place was covered in darkness, and sometimes they even carried torches.
The tall mountains block out the sun, which is also a difficult environment for the surrounding plants, and in many places there is no grass, and in some low-lying places it is even covered with moss that can only be found in caves. There is no farmland and there are few people, but some mines are located here. Miners make a living from collecting large stones to make building materials, and their lives are monotonous and boring, and they can barely make ends meet after a hard day's work. So these people are always working hard with their heads down, ignoring Siegel and his party as they pass by.
Before entering the wilderness, the servants and coachmen had filled the wagons with easy to store food, and they would first eat perishable vegetables and carefully calculate the amount of water to drink. The barbarian Dio, the dwarf Eleinte, and Siegel are all pot-bellied men who must control their diet and eat only the least amount of food.
"There's no way you can't be careless when you're on an adventure," said Elint the Dwarf.
After two more days of walking, I left the mine area, which was too far from the main road and difficult to transport, so it was difficult to make a living from the mine. The road that used to run a horse-drawn carriage has been turned into a trail. The area is sometimes infested with hunters, as well as herb gatherers who have made a path out of the bare ground. Wild beasts began to appear, most often mountain foxes, who liked to ambush their prey and could eat anything when they were hungry. These foxes are extremely cunning, so they know how to weigh danger and do not dare to attack convoys. Elf Leah didn't bother to pay attention to them.
Further on, the uphill path begins again – either along the valley of a dry mountain or the valley washed down by a mudslide, and slowly moving forward, with everyone coming down to help with the cart. Elf Lea is light and can quickly climb to high places, observe her surroundings, and act as a sentry to guard the carriage around.
They camped on a flat ground for the night, the cook prepared food for them, the messengers and the guards set up tents, and the coachmen tended the livestock. Three strong warriors chopped firewood. The wood here is tough and hard, and it takes a long time for the trees to grow a little, so it is very strong, and fortunately, it is also very hot. Half of the night sky is dark shadows, the majestic Mora Mountains, which obscure the moon from the background, and only the stars shine on the other side of the night sky. The wind howled in the valley, but it could not suppress the snoring of the brute. Siegel was so noisy that he couldn't sleep, so he got up and moved.
There were two other people awake, the Guard and the dwarf Elinte. They were in charge of keeping watch for the first half of the night until the elven meditation was over.
"Would you like something to drink, young man!" beckoned the dwarf, sitting by the fire, "drink some hot tea to ward off the cold!"
"I'll go in a moment. Siegel waved at him, then took off his leather armor, put it back on his breastplate, and took the weapon he had with him. It was a habit that Sir Bill had made him develop. When you are in the field, as long as you get up, you must be fully armed to deal with emergencies.
The tea has a bitter taste and is very difficult to swallow. It's not really tea at all, it's just a special herb to remove dirt from the water to get water that is safe to drink in the wild.
"Elint, haven't you left the top of Mora for a long time?" Siegel sat by the campfire with his teacup in his hands, and asked the dwarf, "I noticed that you often looked back on the way here, and sometimes you looked at the top of the mountain for a long time, and you probably didn't notice it yourself." ”
"Yes, kid, you're right, I haven't left the cave for a long time, you know? When the cold wind blows outside, I suddenly feel young again, this is a feeling that has almost been forgotten for 3 years, but this is not homesickness, just some emotion!"
Ellint patted Siegel on the shoulder, then smiled, "Kid, don't let us old guys affect your mood, I've just been in the cave for too long, I haven't come out to exercise, and I haven't even picked up a hammer to make weapons for a long time. I failed twice to assemble this cuirass on you, which was unthinkable before. Do you know what I used to be called? Elliette -- Hammer Press! Turns out now I am hammering every day, not in the forge room, but in the endless number of papers and letters. You're young, Siegel, and you still have plenty of good times to enjoy, adventures, fights, thrills, the best times of your life!"
"Elint, I was happy when I was on the sea, and I thought it would last forever, but when the old captain was gone, I knew it was over. Now that I'm on an adventure with you, I'm also very happy, but it doesn't seem like it's going to last forever. ”
"Don't be so sentimental, you're not old yet! When you get married, and give birth to a whole bunch of little cubs, they will be alive and kicking you around to get into trouble, until you've been hit in the knee and can't venture out again, but stay in the living room by the fireplace, and you'll be entitled to be sentimental!"
"It's hard for me to imagine life like that!"
"That's right, kid, you can only see everything through time, and there is no other shortcut. Before that, you can think of something else, like treasure, a lot of treasures. Siegel, what do you think of my life, what is my wealth?"
"Comparable to a king!" said Siegel, after a moment's thought, "sometimes I listen to the king's poems sung by bards in taverns, and their lives are just like yours. ”
"After this adventure is completed, you can also live such a life, I'm not kidding at all, Dragon and Lion Cliff is the luck of the 4 of us. The dwarf's eyes narrowed, and his beard shook with laughter.
"How were these treasures discovered? I haven't heard this story before. ”
"Fifteen years ago, I became the third spokesperson of the family and acquired the property of Longshi Cliff. At the time, I didn't care at all, and I never thought about taking care of the territory, so I left this matter behind. It wasn't until four years ago that Dio heard about it and asked us to go and see it together. The elves discover the staircase leading to the cave. Sir Bill fights the Gatekeeper Golem so that I can storm the cave. I had a general idea of what was going on inside, so I asked the long-lived dwarf Monka to figure out how to get in and out of the gate safely—you already know that. Later, we jointly contributed to the construction of a watchtower on the road leading to the mountain to ensure that our wealth would not be disturbed. The Morla family guards the place, and in a day you'll be able to see the watchtower. ”
