Chapter 65: Time Keeper
It is a tower that resembles an old-fashioned bell tower, about a few tens of meters high, and although not as tall as the Shining Tower, its width and footprint are far from comparable to that of Helia's core tower.
It is made up of countless finely polished marble bricks, and the exterior is beautifully carved, like a pattern of the passage of time, giving people a sense of serenity and comfort.
Not only that, many parts of the tower show subtle traces of clockwork mechanisms, a few dark green moss dots the exterior, plus the slight traces of time throughout the body, making the whole tower full of an indescribable sense of age.
[It's impossible!] Lunithia blurted out, her tone full of disbelief, [Time crack, how could there be Acacia's building?!] γ
"Nothing is possible and impossible." Josh's already silent mind suddenly fluctuated, "This world is full of miracles, miracles from magic, isn't it?" β
As he spoke, Josh slowly approached the main entrance at the base of the tower.
Without waiting for him to stretch out his hand and push them away, as if he knew of their arrival in advance, he only heard the sound of gears and chains running, and the heavy stone door with a strange pattern and decoration several meters wide and high in front of him slowly opened.
An old man dressed in a traditional brown, red, gray and white robe, with gray facial hair, was standing a few steps away from the main entrance.
He was emaciated, his beard longer than his hair hung down in front of him, and his eyes shone emerald with a pair of thick white eyebrows.
It was as if the golden time disc of the ancient Shurima-style floated behind the old man, held up by the elemental magic of the breath of time, emitting an emerald green glow consistent with the color of his eyes.
Josh recognized the old man in front of him at a glance as Kieran.
He is the great Guardian of Eccasia's time, who has devoted his life to studying time and exploring countless parallel worldlines in order to prevent the end of Acacia's destruction and the future in which the Lands of Runeterrare are bound to be destroyed.
"I knew you were coming." Kieran whispered slowly, his voice low, with a hint of sunset desolation, "Please come in, Josh Russell." β
He saluted with Acacia's courtesy and made an inviting gesture.
[This guy actually knows you?! Lunithia was stunned and shouted, "Don't go in! This could be created by time magic...... Uh, the time undead? γ
However, Josh ignored Lunixia's reminder and went straight to the inside of the tower, standing about four or five paces away from Kieran.
The door closed with a rumbling sound behind him, and Josh looked at Kieran squarely, mimicking what he had just done, returning the salute with Acacia's etiquette.
"Master Kieran." Josh said in Acacia's language, his tone implicitly excited.
It had been a long, long time since he had spoken to anyone other than Runitia.
"No need to be polite, just call me Kieran." Kieran sighed, not at all surprised that Josh knew him, "Josh, can I call you by your name like that?" β
"Of course, Master Kieran."
"Well, you can call me Kiran, too." Kieran beckoned, turned and walked inside the tower, "Come with me." β
He wasn't alone in Kieran's tower.
Unfortunately, Kiran wanted to escape from the capital, but the Council of Elders, the ruling council of Elders, had blindly and foolishly unleashed the void.
The earth cracked, and the tentacles of the Void's corruption and evil poked out from the ground, devouring most of the city-states and tens of thousands of innocent people almost instantly.
Some of the desperate but fortunate enough to be guided by Kieran flocked to his tower.
When the gathered life caught the attention of the Void Monsters, the Void Corrupted Maw intent on devouring the tower, Kiran did what he couldn't have doneβ
He removed his tower from the timeline.
Along with them are the Aycasiya people, with the exception of Kieran, who have been stuck in time standstill.
At this moment, these refugees are filling the huge hall, men, women and children.
They stared at the windows of the tower with frightened eyes, as if they had seen something indescribably terrifying, and subconsciously acted to protect themselves.
γAcacia...... Acacia! When Lunicia saw this, she instantly accumulated countless grief and anger.
As Josh expected, Lunicia really lost control and roared:
[Damn the Acacians! Damn scum! A bunch of stupid brutes and maggots! I'm going to kill them, chop them one by one into meat foam, and feed them to the pigs and dogs, it's not a pity to die!! γ
"Shut up, my goddess!" Josh felt his head blow up at Runicia's roar, "We made an appointment not to scream in my head!" β
Lunicia used her magic to sting Josh's arm, and even her voice trembled: [Josh, kill them, kill all these Acacia maggots!] You know, they almost dragged the world into the abyss......]
Josh endured the pain he was used to and frowned, "That is the decision made by the elders of the Archover of Acacia, what does it have to do with the innocent common people?" β
γHeh......γLunicia sneered disdainfully, [Do you know the reason why Acacia betrayed Shurima? γ
Josh was silent for a moment, "Because Acacia is full of talents, Shurima didn't give them a place to ascend, and always brutally suppressed them?" β
[That's right. Lunicia did not deny Josh's statement at all, [The Shurima Empire is ambitious, and the target of conquest is the whole world, but ......]
She suddenly changed her tone and raised her voice: "We have always been merciful to the kingdoms and city-states that have been incorporated into the territory of the Empire, and we have treated every citizen of Shurima equally, and we have never hesitated to ascend to the throne, as long as the Sun Sacrifice Order approves it. γ
[Josh Russell, do you know why so many city-states treat each other with courtesy, but against one Acacia? γ
Josh fell silent again.
At this point, Rao is aware of the background, and he really doesn't know about it.
Because in Kieran and Jax's backstory, the attitude towards Shurima among the people of Acacia is diametrically opposed.
Josh hadn't expected this to happen, and he hadn't read Helia's account of it, so he didn't know what the reality was.
However, the reality of the situation cannot be completely substituted into the known written description, and the grievances between Shurima and Acacia have to be told by Lunihia, an eyewitness.
Of course, after all, it was a hostile position, and Josh couldn't just take her word for it.
[Once, the Mage King of Acacia rejected our offer to surrender, and our army of Ascended Ascendants entered the capital of Acacia, killing the Mage King, and the Kouali Guards who escorted them also killed themselves. γ
[I admit that the Sun Empress of that generation was indeed more violent and inappropriate, and she ordered the bones of the mage kings beloved by the Acacians to be nailed to the walls and left to rot, while the Kauali were exposed to the streets, and no one was allowed to collect the corpses. γ
[But even after hundreds of years, those long-lived sand trolls still harbor hatred for Shurima, and continue this hatred to their children and grandchildren! γ
[Even after receiving the favor of Shurima, these damned maggots who have the bane of rebellion buried in their bones do not say a word about it, and still refuse to identify with our culture, and even repeatedly insult the royal blood and the Ascended Regiment! γ
Runicia laughed angrily, [Their contempt for the suzerain's country has reached the point of undisguised, but they still shamelessly apply to the City of the Sun for ascension again and again, but we refuse, but they are even more resentful of us. γ
[They took us for fools, thinking that we did not know the vile betrayal in their hearts......]
[What would you do if you were you, Josh?] γ
Kiran seemed to notice the fluctuations of the corrupting magic behind him, and said without replying, "It looks like that Darkspawn on your body should be very resentful of us, right?" β
Walking up the stairs to the second floor, where the hall could almost be seen, Kieran found an open spot and paused, leaning on the railing and looking down.
Kieran's tightly knit brows revealed a deep sadness, and the tiredness and weariness in his eyes were something that people who had only lived a lifetime could not experience at all.
Subconsciously, Josh's mind came to mind of Ruiz, who had been running around the world for thousands of years in order to collect and seal the world runes.
Josh, who was silent, walked up to Kieran and stood side by side with him,
"These are the refugees I saved in despair, and I've been looking for ways to break their time freeze...... Forget it, don't worry about that. β
Kiran shook his head, "That Darkspawn should be called ...... Lunihia, right? The wielder of the Dance of Death, the goddess of death under the tutelage of the scholar Nasus, if I'm not mistaken. β
[Heh, it's really rare that this maggot still knows me. Lunessia's words were full of ridicule, [In order to know yourself and know your opponent in order to seek rebellion, you haven't secretly studied every Celestial warrior of our Ascension Regiment, right? γ
Kieran couldn't hear Lunixia's cynicism, but from Josh's slightly locked brow, he could still guess a little bit of content when he didn't know how many decades he had exceeded the normal lifespan.
"She should have told you why Acacia betrayed Shurima, right?"
Kiran sighed, and his whole person suddenly highlighted a sense of loneliness and decadence.
"She's right, the people of Acacia do hate Shurima in their bones, and this is the propaganda of their parents, as well as the sand trolls who have lived since the conquest of Acacia and survived to the present day, even I made a mistake in the first place."
Kieran was silent for a moment, then continued to motionfor Josh to follow him and walk deeper into the hallway, while speaking:
"This is a very complicated grievance, involving family and country feuds, and it is indeed reasonable to remember the last mage king who is loved by everyone, but it is beyond reproach to the hatred of Shurima and openly insulting the emperor and the ascended one, violating the law, and being suppressed by the empire.
"But a gang of sand trolls united with the radical common people, portrayed these rebels who were publicly executed by the empire as victims of oppression, and further promoted hatred, even intending to apply for a place to ascend to gain the strength to resist Shurima......"
Kieran sighed again, looking back at the amber eyes of the Dance of Death tied to the leash on Josh's chest.
"But...... Lunixia, not every Acacian is a radical. β

Because of the background description of Kieran and Jax, there is a conflict with the setting of the Aclesias, and everything is based on the setting of this book.
