Chapter Seventy-Four: The Mansion
According to the style of the earth, this is a very typical Victorian compound manor building, but Zhou Zhongmou has never seen such a building in this kind in this world. He stood in front of the manor, looking at the openwork iron gate, silent. "Even though the sun was shining brightly on the houses in this large clearing in the forest, why did I still feel cold from the bottom of my heart? Zhou Zhongmou thought about this question, looking at the three-story building crawling with vines and plants in front of him, and the tall tower behind it.
He stood there, still unable to make up his mind to step into this place - although it seemed to be a very normal place, it was the greatest abnormality to appear in the Black Forest, and his damn curiosity tormented Zhou Zhongmou, but the unknown warning always echoed in his mind.
"Hmm, there's a change?" Zhou Zhongmou heard something unusual, and he was very agile enough to hide his body in the shadows of the big tree. Then he saw a group of men, men and women, a dwarf and a halfling, and more than a dozen of them came to the front of the manor. After a moment of conversation, they pushed open the iron door in front of them and stepped inside.
Zhou Zhongmou watched them walk into the big house, he stood outside and watched for about twenty minutes, and finally couldn't help but walk into the iron gate as well. Bypassing the fountain in front of the door, he pushed open the door of the house and entered.
My name is Chrio Barrocliffe, and I'm a fairly successful adventurer. Led by Papa Basque, our team of adventurers has really reaped a lot of loot - enough for each of us to be able to feed our own family, though it's usually just us. This time, our team's Adam Kraswall, the explorer and thief halfling, said he had found a man who said there was a mysterious manor in the Black Forest with a lot of money. I said that is nonsense! There really is so much money that has not been looted long ago!
But Papa Basque thought it was true—was the old man crazy?, but when I saw the gold coin that the man who called himself Edie Warman had brought it out—I believed that it was, in my humble discernment, a precious gold coin of the ancient Normar Empire, something of great value. Then we spent three whole days in circles in the Black Forest like headless flies under the leadership of this fellow called Warman - I saw Papa Basque secretly signaling to our simplest-brained fellow, Bert Brinton, to be ready to slaughter that Warman at his orders if he dared to deceive us
Just when Daddy couldn't take it anymore, this Warman finally saved his own life, and of course my patience - if this guy dared to take us around this hellish place for even half an hour, I would have cut off the boy's head with my sword before Brinton.
What appeared before us was a place where time seemed to have frozen, and what was an unexpectedly beautiful manor in the sunlight - the vine-covered walls, the beautiful carved windows, and the fountain where weeds had grown - all said one thing - no one had been here for a long, long time, as if no one had been here since the people of the manor had left.
We pushed open the iron door, we pushed open the door, and we walked in. The carpets on the floor, the paintings on the walls, the intricate pieces of furniture, all these things were covered with a thick layer of ash, cobwebs everywhere, and it was true that no one had been in this room for a long, long time.
Here comes another person. Hell, did this damn Warman kid sell this news to someone else? Papa Basque turned around almost immediately, we all raised our weapons, and the ever-chattering Clover Weir raised his staff—this guy had a lot of experience, and reacted much faster than I did when I first met him.
Well, it's a very difficult opponent to deal with. I looked at the new guy who was more than a head taller than all of us, and I didn't want to rush up and be cut in half by this guy when I looked at his bulging muscles and the great sword with obvious ominous magic. Papa Basque doesn't seem to want to, but we don't mind giving a share to the guy who calls himself Zode if what Warman says is true - but it depends on whether Kayla Wau, one of us, succeeds in backstabbing or not.
Zhou Zhongmou looked at the crowd standing in the hall in front of him, "One, two, three, four, there are eleven people." These two women are archers, and everything else seems to have it, from thieves to warriors, and even magicians are full-time apprentices, aren't they a full-fledged adventurous team. Zhou Zhongmou didn't care much about the combat effectiveness of this group of people, after going through the war - although it was only a battle, he didn't have much difficulty with this kind of small gang fire, and no one in this group could compare with him in combat effectiveness - this was what Zhou Zhongmou observed, he was obviously a lot stronger than them, so he could see it. This was also what the old churroser warrior with the gray beard in the gang could see, and it was this soldier who called himself Basque who had just negotiated with Zhou Zhongmou to get him into the gang with a promise of a share of him—although Zhou Zhongmou knew very well that this was absolutely false, but why bother to do it now? His interest was only in the secret of this place.
Twelve people began to search the house, which was very large, with many rooms, and all kinds of furniture and so on. "Why does it look like the original person here left in a hurry?" Zhou Zhongmou was in the dining room now, he looked at the dishes on the table and thought that although there were cobwebs and ashes on it, the rotten food could still be seen in a general shape. Beside him was a halfling, this guy who called himself Adam seemed to know himself well, and he didn't know Zhou Zhongmou at all, as if he had known Zhou Zhongmou for more than ten years, and he seemed to be an old friend like that—of course, it would be nice if he didn't often try to dig out Zhou Zhongmou's bag.
In fact, this place does have some valuable things - others don't know how to get it, but Zhou Zhongmou found several sets of gold and silver cutlery in the dining room. Zhou Zhongmou didn't take these things, he just watched the halfling sweep them all into his bag with his nimble hand - this guy once looked up and motioned for Zhou Zhongmou to take it too, but after seeing that Zhou Zhongmou was completely unwilling, he took all these things himself.
Zhou Zhongmou looked at the dining room, then at the back of the halfling, sighed slightly, and then walked out with him.
