Chapter 15: The Pirates Attack
When Arka and Siggert came out of the captain's chamber.
Quite a few sailors had already gathered on deck.
Seeing the arrival of the captain, they all got out of the way.
"What's going on?"
As soon as Hall asked, a middle-aged man dressed appropriately, also dressed in leather, walked over with a serious expression on his face.
It gives people the feeling of not being angry and arrogant, and he is the first mate of this ship.
"Captain, the pirates have been spotted."
As he spoke, he pointed to the sea.
Several people immediately looked in the direction they were pointing, and saw that there was a sailing ship in that place, which was slowly approaching.
Due to the faint fog of the sea and the distance, it is not very clear to see.
Halls immediately took out a monocular from his pocket and stretched it out, squinting his eyes and looking at it carefully.
"It's pirates, it should be the ones who have been wandering around this area recently, and it's really unlucky."
Then he immediately turned his head and shouted at the sailors behind him, "What are you doing in a daze? Do you expect them to let us go? β
Hearing the captain's shout, everyone moved.
Arka couldn't help but hold his hand on the short knife at his waist.
Siggett looked at Arka and patted: "Don't panic, don't you see that these sailors are actually very calm?" β
"It's normal to encounter pirates on the seas, there are so many dangers in the sea, are you ready to see blood?"
As he spoke, he directly pulled out the sailor knife in his hand and held it in his hand.
"Follow me, don't worry."
Alka, who was a little nervous, nodded, and then looked at the ring on his thumb.
The same drew the sailor's knife from his waist.
Look at the pirate ship that was already speeding towards them.
The ship was noticeably smaller than the one under his feet, and it was also a twin mast, smaller and thinner.
It seemed that he was going to have a good wind, and it looked like he was going to rush over in a while.
Then one ballista after another was launched from the plywood, lined up on the side of the ship, facing the direction of the enemy ship.
"There hasn't been a sailing period of gunpowder yet?"
It was only then that Arka remembered what he had not noticed, and that was that the ship had completely failed to see the guns and the gun deck.
Naval artillery was arguably the most effective attack between ships during the sail period.
It is also the most iconic weapon.
If there were no artillery, they would probably have to fight each other by ramming and jumping.
As Arka pondered, Captain Halls raised the long knife at his waist and shouted, "Where is my darling? Pull me up! β
The words fell, and it was not long before several sailors worked together to push a bulky object from the cabin onto the deck.
Artillery?
This thing is not much different from the artillery that Arka has seen in some sources.
It's just that the exterior has changed from pure black to black and gray, but it can be seen that it is still made of metal.
However, compared to the artillery, it looks much more sophisticated.
The barrel is a cylindrical barrel about three meters long, with a bracket that can rotate from side to side and raise up and down with a small float under the barrel, and is equipped with four wheels.
From this bracket, you can see that this barrel is not as heavy as you think.
Or maybe the technology is more sophisticated.
But in any case, it should be a cannon.
Siggett clearly recognized the thing and couldn't help but cheer.
"Uncle Halls, you are really willing, when will you get one?"
Halls was visibly embarrassed, as if he was showing off his treasure, and said, "It's been a long time, but it's rare to have time to use it, so you don't know." β
As he spoke, he turned his head to a somewhat thin man and said, "Tassie, I'll give you this thing to use, give me a good fight, it's accurate." β
Tassie rubbed his hands together and gestured okay.
"Leave it to me, Captain, I'm sure I'll get this group of pirates to drink, hehe!"
Then he took over a palm-sized cylinder from the hand of the regiment commander, which was also inlaid with gold edges, and looked very precious.
With the combined efforts of several people, the gun was pushed to the side of the ship.
A sailor with a barrel in his arms placed the contents of his arms heavily beside the gun.
Tassie commanded the sailors, shoving fist-sized object after fist into the barrel of the gun, which seemed to be ammunition.
Didn't add anything to it, just stuffed the ammunition directly.
And it's all stuffed with smaller ammunition the size of a fist, so many, scattershot?
Sigurt sidestepped AlcalΓ‘, about four or five meters away from the artillery.
"There's a good show to watch, and it doesn't seem too dangerous this time."
"What's that?"
"The rock cannon, a very expensive weapon, is very powerful."
"Do you know what it's made of?"
"I don't know, and not many people know."
It seems that Siggert doesn't know much either.
"Get ready!"
Tassie spoke, and the four sailors on either side of the quake cannon held the cannon against it.
Alka looked into the distance, and the enemy pirate ship was about 600 meters away.
Can you shoot this far with precision?
"Fire!"
With a roar of rage, Tassie slammed the pillar that the captain had given him into a palm-sized platform behind the cannon.
With the tapping, Arka could clearly feel the ships shake slightly.
However, it was not as loud as the firing of artillery.
It's a very dull sound.
Watch as several fist-sized objects sliced through the air, making a screeching sound.
It smashed the enemy ships, and several even smashed directly on the deck.
Accurate hits!
"Hit, hurry up, keep loading."
It takes about 30 seconds or so to launch.
Every time it's a precise hit.
Arka found that it was not that Tassie was technically good, but that the artillery had an extremely high hit rate, and the distance of about 500 meters was almost a straight line.
The effective range will only be longer.
This is clearly no ordinary artillery.
As the ship approached, the ballista also fired their bolts.
However, after one launch, there was no consideration at all about continuing the installation.
After four or five rounds of cannon fire, the enemy ships, though somewhat tattered, sailed to their side.
But not to sink enemy ships.
This kind of scatter bomb should be used to better kill the pirates above.
"The enemy is going to jump to the gang, take out your weapons, and teach these gutter rats a hard lesson!"
TOEFL roared, then pulled out the sailor knife at his waist.
One rope after another with a grappling hook flew over, or grabbed the side of the boat, or wrapped around the cable.
Siggert was always at Arka's side.
And many sailors are already using their long knives to chop the grappling hooks that fly up.
At this time, several arrows flew up and hit the two sailors accurately.
As the battle progressed.
Quite a few pirates came up.
There were a lot more people than they thought.
The two pirates saw the two Arka, brandished their boatswain knives and rushed over.
Siggett immediately met him, kicking one of the pirates to the ground with a single kick, and the sailor's knife blocked the attack of the nearby pirate.
With a single swing of the short sword, the blade of the enemy was swept away and slashed at the enemy's shoulder.
The right foot tripped the enemy hard, and the knife in his hand slashed hard at the enemy's neck.
Blood splattered violently.
Siggett was experienced, and his head twisted slightly.
The blood didn't blur his vision, it just sprayed on his neck and cheeks.
Rolling at a donkey behind him, dodging the attack of the pirate who had been kicked down and then back up.
Watching the blood splash and the sword fight, Alka's heartbeat became faster and faster, and his breathing couldn't help but get worse.
Screams and roars were everywhere.
A cold touch was transmitted to his brain, reminding him of the need to calm down.
He suddenly saw something, and hurriedly reminded loudly: "Be careful! β
The body couldn't help but move.
