Chapter 292: Shooter
The philosophers of the Prophet used to say that when two armies face each other, if the other commander-in-chief is captured or killed, the rest of the army will be defeated without a fight.
However, the decapitation tactic is not only effective when fighting in armies, but also against these small monster groups that rely on superior individuals for command. Less than moments after the chainmail-clad commander was shot, the little monsters, who had barely managed to maintain order, immediately fell into chaos.
When a few of the guys who were in front noticed that the commander had fallen, they immediately let out a sharp sound and rushed in the direction where the arrow was fired. And more of the little monsters watched the commander and his weapons in their hands at a loss, scurrying around in place like headless flies.
It's normal for a timid species like the Elves to have such a reaction, and after the morale-sustaining leader falls, they simply can't continue to fight. It may be said that compared to those who are in chaos, it is the outliers who rush towards the enemy.
However, what greeted these brave men ahead was a trap set in advance.
The little monster who took the lead didn't know if he stepped on some kind of oil, and his foot slipped and fell on the iron nail placed next to it. The one that followed it stepped on some sort of pedal and was hoisted into the air by a few wires that were simply attached to the surrounding stalagmites.
The traps placed throughout the cave are not too complicated, but they are more than enough to deal with the small monsters. None of the monsters were able to break through the trap-barred lines - and when they were captured, they were followed by cold arrows.
Judging by the frequency of the shots, it seems that there is only one shooter lurking in the dark. But every arrow he shot hit the enemy's vital point with precision. The thin layer of darkness that shrouded the cavern did not block his view, but rather served as a barrier to protect him.
Arrows shot in the dark seem to be no different from normal arrows. They are made of simple wooden shafts and steel heads. However, their power is incredible, and any shot has the power to penetrate the monsters' bodies and then penetrate the rock wall.
"It's not obvious though. But those arrows have magic in them. ”
Observing an arrow that had killed an enemy, Lizzie lowered her voice and said, "In particular, the metal of the arrow part should be mixed with a part of silver as a container for magical power. The moment it shoots, it infuses it with magic and gives it the power to shoot through metal armor. ”
Just look at the previous "Commander" nailed to the wall, whose metal plate studded chain mail was rendered useless before the enemy fired the arrows. Since it is also difficult to get away with it, then the fate of the rest of the little monsters can be imagined, before these arrows, those rudimentary protective gear draped over them are simply like paper pierced by light yì, and there is no way to protect them.
As if by name, the arrows that tore through the air opened holes in front of the enemy's backs one by one. The little monsters who rushed forward had not yet seen who the attackers were hiding in the darkness. One by one, they fell into those seemingly simple traps.
Seeing the companions who rushed forward being knocked down by the enemy one by one, this result undoubtedly made the little monsters who were already in chaos even more nervous. Their demoralization was immediately reduced to the brink of collapse, and they immediately turned around and tried to flee, not even caring about the weapons and equipment in their hands.
The archers lurking in the darkness were not happy to see their prey escape, and took advantage of the fact that they turned and fled, and fired several arrows in a row. Dark arrows shot out of the darkness, hitting the bodies with incredible precision, pinning the guys who wanted to escape to the ground one by one.
The battle ended more abruptly than it began, and within a few minutes, all the little monsters that entered the cave hall were killed at the hands of the attackers in the darkness. Arrows about an arm's length nailed them to the ground. Only the dead body that had been hoisted by a steel wire kept shaking in the sky.
Once again, the cavern was calm, and the little monsters were scattered on the cold ground, leaving only the creeping smell of blood and fish. The archers on the opposite side no longer fired arrows, and a slight grinding sound could still be heard in the darkness.
"The shooter, he seems to have used some way to hide his existence. Even if I increased the strength of the search spell, I wouldn't be able to see his location clearly. After a moment of silence, Lizzie said to Curt, "But judging from the biological reactions. He seemed to be badly wounded. ”
See for yourself—Lizzie said suddenly, and put her hand on Curt's face. Suddenly, a cold sensation spread from her fingertips to Curt's eyes. Curt knew it was Lizzie's way of channeling her magic into his body. Some kind of spell is having an effect.
After a few breaths, Curt felt as if his eyes were frozen, and the qiē in front of him began to change in front of him. All the colors that had accumulated in the dark cavern had been replaced by monotonous black and white, and some of the things that had been obscured by the darkness were clearly revealed.
He could clearly see a tall, lanky figure crouching in a dark corner a little farther away, holding a strangely shaped longbow in his hand. Beside him lay the few arrows left, as well as a few bits and pieces of material that looked like they were left over from the trap.
This man was the sniper who had shot all the little monsters that had walked into the cavern hall, and he was now half-kneeling as if he was wounded. Some white drips gradually spread around his feet, and the sticky liquid was not discernible in color, but he could more or less guess what they were.
There was no danger between where he was and the line of defense made of traps, only a few slightly undulating pillars of rock and emaciated stalagmites. If it hadn't used the trap in his hand to stop the enemy's progress beforehand, he would have been slashed by those guys by now.
"Looks like he's in trouble, maybe we need to help him. After a moment's silence, Curt suddenly said to Lizzie, "I know you might object, but this guy is probably the only one in existence who knows what's going on in this stronghold." ”
Looking at the archer opposite, he was still crouching on the ground and gasping weakly, and there were only three arrows left in his hand. Thanks to the spell offered by Lizzie, he could barely be seen wearing a loose robe depicting a coat of arms with an eye-centered motif on it.
This is undoubtedly the pattern that symbolizes the True Eye, and the shooter who lurks in the darkness may be one of the members of this organization. But looking at this panting appearance, after killing the team formed by those little monsters, he had no strength to fight again.
When Curt and the others found the little monsters entering the cave, they felt that the strange creatures were looking for something. Now it seems that they may be searching for the shooter - or they may be following someone's orders to hunt down the mortally wounded man.
This sprawling underground facility is a secret stronghold that the Eye of Sight has been operating for a long time, and it may contain other more valuable information. Now that most of the members have been killed or accused by the attackers, the wounded shooter is one of the few remaining sources of information.
Perhaps it was for this reason that the attackers would send the little monsters they accused of chasing him down. After all, having one of the other members of the True Eye or cooperate with other forces regardless of one qiē will inevitably thwart their plans in all sorts of troubles.
Although the enemy of an enemy may not be a friend, when certain interests are aligned, the original enemy may also temporarily become a collaborator.
Whoosh –
But just as Curt was about to step out of the hole where he was hiding, an arrow suddenly flew from the darkness on the other side. Curt leaned slightly, and the arrow slammed into the wall beside him, the shaft still shaking under the influence of the remaining force.
"Don't get any closer, or it won't be so easy to dodge next time. A woman's slightly hoarse voice came from the darkness, and the sound of an arrow could still be heard, "Who are you two, and why are you in this cave?"
Was it a woman?
Curt looked at the other party who was aiming his head with a bow and arrow, and for some reason he had such a feeling. Just relying on night vision spells can't see the other person's face clearly, and the body that seems to be taller than himself really can't see what the other party's gender is.
Despite her scarred body, she stood up and stared at the two men standing in the passage with a wary look. She spotted Curt and Lizzie when she intercepted the little monsters, but didn't attack them.
"It's just a passing mercenary and a little girl. ”
Curt smiled indifferently and raised her empty hands for her to check: "As you can see, we don't have any ill intentions, we just want to help you." After all, with your current physical condition, even if you shoot the two of us on the spot, you probably won't last long. ”
She apparently didn't see the two Leinster family as companions, but she didn't spare the energy to deal with them. Perhaps she felt more troublesome than the man crouching and peeking at her—and now she pointed her bow and arrow in this direction.
"Why not cooperate with us rather than die a senseless death here, Miss Magician who belongs to the Eye of Truth? After all, we are in a similar direction of action right now—the guys who attacked this stronghold won't want to see us leave alive. ”
He stared at the other party fearlessly, waiting for the other party's choice. (To be continued......)
