A small clay Buddha in the open air
Someone made a small clay Buddha and put it in the open air; Some people are afraid that the Buddha statue will be dissolved by the rain, so they cover it with broken shoes; Later, some people felt that it was not respectful enough to cover the Buddha statue with broken shoes, so they threw away the broken shoes. Then the Buddha said that all three of them could receive the blessings of the Wheel King. Why? Because the three of them have one thing in common, that is, they all have good thoughts.
The starting point for both good and evil is our motives. If my mind is full of bad thoughts, I will always worry about whether other people's thoughts or actions are aimed at me or hurt me. If you guess me and I guess you between good friends, soon, the relationship between each other will deteriorate, and even become enemies. The same goes for family relationships. When you guard against others everywhere and others guard against you everywhere, the estrangement will get deeper and deeper, and the relationship between you can only develop negatively.
If you learn to develop your thoughts in the good direction, you will become very happy. That kind of happiness cannot be measured by money, nor can it be replaced by eating, drinking, and merrymaking in the world, let alone expressed in words. In this way, the damage inflicted on us by the outside world will be minimized. Because what is commonly called harm becomes a good motive for you, and when you don't treat it as harm, there is no such thing as harm.
It's like two good friends laughing and scolding each other in the world's scolding language, and after getting used to it, these unpleasant words turn into funny jokes. But when these words are said to another person, the other person will immediately put on a straight face and even look at him angrily. Why does the same language respond differently to different people? Because your friend knows that you have no ill intentions and no evil thoughts in his heart, what you say is an intimate expression for him, but for others, it becomes a harsh voice.
So, when you have good thoughts in your heart, gradually, other people will also be infected by your good thoughts, and so on the cycle will expand, everything will lead to the good side, and the whole social ethos or our practice will change because of the adjustment of our mindset. With such adjustments, deep-rooted bodhichitta arises.
The four immeasurables, which are the source of true accumulation of merit, are very important for each person's life in this or future life, all the way to Buddhahood. Compassion can cure our greed and anger, joy can cure our jealousy and arrogance, and equality can cure our ignorance. Compassion and joy are mainly aimed at curing our five poisons.
If we want to enter the bodhisattva path, we need to start with the four immeasurables to strengthen our aspirations, and then slowly enter the bodhisattva path based on action, so that sentient beings can truly get rid of suffering and its causes, attain happiness and its causes, and finally attain the Buddhahood of eternal happiness.
The root of both good and evil lies in the thought of the heart. The so-called one Buddha and one demon. When good thoughts are in effect, not only will we be moved by this power of goodness, but the words and deeds that result from it will also infect many people. Every move we take to practice the bodhisattva path requires us to consolidate our good thoughts so that they can be used steadily and sustainably. When our hearts are enveloped by our own evil thoughts, in fact, the only one who suffers and struggles the most is ourselves, because the retribution of evil thoughts will be given back to us twice as much. So it is also the role of mindfulness, why not choose the good thinking that makes yourself happy and makes more people happy?
