Chapter Twenty-Nine: Rick
June 23, Atlanta, King County.
After two weeks, Lyon is back in the town again.
Last time, though, he traveled to Atlanta alone, and this time, he's back with his team.
"Boss, where do we start with the raid?"
Moore carried a machete in his right hand and a shield in his left hand, and the thick black bear armor on his body made him look unusually strong even though he was not burly.
Behind him, nine combatants formed three teams, chatting and observing the movement in a nearby building.
This time he brought a lot of people, in addition to 10 fighters, there were also 5 drivers, 5 heavy trucks with a cargo capacity of more than 20 tons.
Now that we've come to save Rick, let's just loot the important supplies in King's County.
"Let's go to the hospital first, that's where I used to work, and the medical equipment and supplies in it are quite complete."
"Okay boss, we'll follow you."
Lyon, driving one or two modified military heavy jeeps with his own convoy, did not pass directly through the town center, but from the outer perimeter of the town to the county hospital.
Along the way, he encountered more than a dozen zombies wandering on the road, all of which he used a modified heavy jeep to run over mercilessly.
When there is no advantage in numbers, a single zombie is not much different from an ordinary ragdoll in the face of a large vehicle.
After about 10 minutes of driving, the convoy arrived at the county hospital, a large four-story building with a front and rear courtyard, not much different from Lyon's memory, except for the hundreds of corpses neatly placed on the ground and the smoky and burning exterior walls.
Leon, with a long-bladed machete in one hand, led the way through the front of the line and led the group through the glass entrance of the hospital.
"Form a defensive formation and empty all the zombies inside."
"Yes, Boss."
Moore received the order and made a few gestures to his soldiers, and the warriors worked in groups of three, with Daryl, Aggie, and T-boy as the fulcrum, one shield and two spears, and began to advance from three directions, clearing all the zombies they saw.
The team leader, Moore, is armed with an assault rifle and stands behind Leon, both to protect the boss and to support the rest of the squad at any time.
Ten minutes later, everyone gathered around Leon again, with a little embarrassment on their faces.
They searched with great fanfare, but in the end, only two or three zombies were found on the entire first floor, and some corpses that had been shot in the head, most likely wandering from the streets outside.
Leon recalled, but there was a guess, he remembered that when Sean last came to see Rick, the American GIs slaughtered the entire hospital, and all the living people infected with the virus were mercilessly shot.
It may have been at that time that all the zombies in the hospital were wiped out.
He didn't open his mouth to explain anything, but continued to give orders.
"Go upstairs and clean up the second floor."
An hour later, the first, second, and third floors of the county hospital were all cleaned up by the soldiers of the umbrella company, and the number of zombies was not much, and the total number of zombies did not exceed 20.
When Leon led his warriors to the top 4th floor, a chain lock blocked their way.
Moore scratched his chin and said with some depression.
"The fourth floor is locked, boss."
"Are you going to crash it away?"
Leon glanced at Moore with the eyes of a fool, and said:
"Do you need to ask?"
With that, he removed a shotgun from the back of one of his men.
"Forget it, you all get out of the way."
Aiming the muzzle of the gun at the iron lock, Leon and the others avoided it and pulled the trigger.
Boom!
A loud bang echoed in the hallway, filled with the smell of gunpowder and gunpowder, and the lock broke directly and was knocked away, knocking a huge hole in the wooden door.
Leon had just pushed open the door when he saw an old woman with a nurse's hat, her hair disheveled, and her face haggard peeking out of a doorframe not far from the hallway.
Her eyes were complicated, her expression was stunned, and the two feelings of fear and anticipation were mixed, making the serious and responsible face in the past seem a little distorted.
Leon frowned slightly, he knew the old woman in front of him.
"Moretti Too?"
The old woman's expression was in a trance for more than ten seconds, and she looked at Leon and the warriors behind him a little sluggishly, her voice hoarse as if sandpaper was rubbing.
"Dr. Leon Custer, is that you?"
Leon nodded, and looked around with some surprise, the fourth floor of the hospital was the inpatient ward, which was responsible for receiving those who were seriously ill, and Mrs. Morearti was the head nurse of the hospital, who was over 50 years old this year.
It's hard to imagine that such an elderly man has lived here for more than a month.
"Is I, Mrs. Moriarty, here alone?"
"How did you survive alone?"
The old lady seemed to accept the reality, she breathed a sigh of relief, the horror on her face slowly disappeared, and walked from the ward to the corridor.
Her face was pale, her nurse's uniform looked a little sloppy, and she felt like a refugee with little food and clothing.
"There were a lot of monsters like that in my neighborhood, and I didn't dare to stay there alone, so I went back to the hospital."
"After the army left, there were a lot fewer people here, and some of the seriously ill patients were left unmanaged."
"I've been collecting the fruit baskets and gifts in the ward for food and taking care of the patients who are still alive."
Speaking of this, a bitter smile appeared on the old lady's face.
"However, the food has been eaten, and I have been hungry for days, and I am going out to find some supplies."
Leon nodded with an unchanged face, walked to the old lady, took out some high-energy chocolate jerky candy from his waist bag and handed it to the old man, and said:
"It's all right, Mrs. Morearti, you can go back with us, we have a safe shelter to receive all the good survivors."
"By the way, what other patients are still alive, and will they still be able to move?"
The old lady nodded gratefully to Leon, reached out and took the food, which she was very reserved and did not eat immediately, she said with a little thought.
"I found out that some patients will become monsters when they die, so I locked them in the ward, there is no special medicine, only relying on nutritional drips, and now there are only 4 people left alive, and you may remember them."
"Miss Kevila, who suffered a broken body in a car accident, Mr. Hongke, who turned into a vegetative person and has not yet woken up, Mr. Rick who fell into a coma because of a gunshot wound, and Mr. Claude, who became stupid because of the brain loss in a fight."
They are all disabled people who can't move or run, and yes, but whoever can move, who will stay here.
Hearing that Rick had not changed and was still alive, Leon's heart soothed, and he patted the old lady on the shoulder and said:
"Don't be sad, Mrs. Morearti, it's already like this, and we can't change it."
"We are going to transport the medical equipment and supplies in the hospital, can you take my subordinates and pick out those valuable equipment?"
The old lady stared at the fully armed men behind Leon for a few moments, nodded, and said:
"Okay, Dr. Custer, what medicines and equipment do you need?"
Leon said as a matter of course:
"As long as it is valuable, it will be transported away, and we have driven several heavy trucks over this time, and if we can't finish transporting it in one trip, we can transport it again."
"You take them to the pharmacy to carry the medicines first, I'll go see the patients, and in an hour, let's have lunch together."
