Chapter Eighty-Nine: The Big Scene

Lyon's staff were quite efficient, and after his order was issued, at noon the next day, a convoy of more than 50 different vehicles crossed a distance of more than 70 kilometers to the vicinity of the Fort Benning Army Base, where Lyon was located.

This efficiency surprised both Frank the Iron Wolf and the soldiers who followed him.

But when Frank saw the dozen excavators and more than a dozen cargo trucks in the convoy, the iron-blooded soldier was a little confused.

Is this here to deal with zombies?

It's not here to develop real estate, is it?

However, he was a man who didn't like to talk too much, and seeing Leon's confident appearance, he just followed Leon in silence as if he had turned into a contractor, looking at him, and assigning work to those excavators.

In fact, the task is quite simple, that is, to dig a 50-meter-wide and three-meter-deep earth pit with a length of about 1,000 meters of TNT explosives installed on the base wall.

After his calculations, such a large area of the pit was enough to hold 300,000 zombies crowded together.

After Leon finished his task with the excavator, he turned to Frank the Iron Wolf and explained:

"These zombies look terrifying and endlessly numerous, but they are much more stupid than wild animals such as wild boars, monkeys and even rabbits, and only rely on instinct to act."

"As long as the pit we dig is wider than the gap you blasted, and so deep that the zombies can't climb up, it becomes a sturdy dungeon that will trap the endless stream of zombies."

"At that time, as long as we control the drone as bait, we can trick all the zombies who can get here into this pit."

Leon lit a cigar, took a puff of his own, and when Frank didn't seem to resist smoking, he handed him one.

He raised his eyebrows slightly, and said with a hint of smugness on the corner of his mouth:

"Last time, we dealt with tens of thousands of zombies at the Senas nuclear power plant, and made a lot of traps, and finally found that compared to mines and bombs, heavy machine guns and other weapons, just digging a pit in the ground is more effective."

"Not only can it save materials, but it can trap a large number of these zombies."

"There won't be any casualties either."

Iron Wolf Frank nodded thoughtfully and asked:

"You've trapped hundreds of thousands of corpses here, how are you going to kill them?"

"With explosives or with bullets?"

Leon glanced at Frank with a slight disdain and said:

"When they enter this dirt pit, they become rats in animal traps, why waste precious explosives and bullets against this garbage."

He took a puff of his cigar and let out a puff of white air.

"Besides, how many bullets and explosives do you need to kill hundreds of thousands of zombies, do you and your soldiers have so much ammunition?"

Being ridiculed in person made Iron Wolf Frank's face darken a little, but what the person opposite said was very reasonable, he was not an unreasonable person, and he didn't want to refute it.

"And how are you going to kill them?"

Leon pointed to some of the trucks in the convoy that had come in the morning and said:

"I brought 10 truckloads of gasoline from our base in Atlanta, which is more than 200 tons, but I guess there is still a little bit to burn so many zombies."

"It just so happens that you're very familiar with the situation around here."

"I don't need the help of your soldiers here for the time being, so please take them to the surrounding area to collect some petrol or diesel and come back, the more the better."

"If you don't feel like you're running out of manpower, I can send some people with you."

"In the case of zombies, it is indeed a good way to deal with them with flames."

Iron Wolf Frank lowered his eyes and thought for dozens of seconds, and finally nodded at Leon and said:

"I know where I can get fuel, I can help you get enough portions, just give us some cars, and I don't need your help."

"However, you also have to be careful, the movement of your group here is not small, and there are other forces around here, you need to be careful to deal with."

He paused for a few seconds, then said:

"Your solution should be feasible, if the soldiers from the northern outpost come to trouble you, report my name and inform me to come by the way."

"I'll help you deal with them."

Leon nodded, indicating that he knew that he had some concerns and did not want to clash with the local survivors.

Because in the event of a conflict, it is likely to affect his recruitment plan in the future.

Thankfully, there weren't so many coincidences in the world, and their plans were going well.

However, what embarrassed Leon was that he was also a layman in the construction industry, and the efficiency of the excavator was not as high as he imagined, and the large excavator they used could only dig out 1,000 cubic meters of muck every day, even if they worked overtime to dig such a huge pit more than 1,000 meters long, it took them eight full days.

Fortunately, Iron Wolf Frank is not the kind of man who cares, and after recognizing the feasibility of Leon's plan, he is very cooperative with all his actions without any complaints.

Eight days later, one morning, the day of the operation, Leon and his men, as well as Frank the Iron Wolf and his men, were all concentrated on the opposite side of the huge pit, weapons in hand, waiting for the sound of explosions.

For the sake of safety, in order not to be despised by other forces and cause conflicts, Leon transferred 100 fighters and more heavy weapons and ammunition from the base yesterday, which also made Frank recognize the strength of Leon as a manager even more.

With a series of muffled sounds, the special TNT explosives exploded on the spot, and Iron Wolf Frank's men had top demolition experts, and after his adjustments, these bombs were not only moderately powerful, but also did not produce a loud explosion.

The concrete wall, more than 40 centimeters thick, was immediately blown into many pumpkin-sized pieces, and with a clattering sound, part of the rubble fell into the pit they had dug in Lyon, and part of the rubble was left in the military base.

On the other side of the wall, the zombie herd that had been seduced by the noise of the excavator outside the wall for many days was finally liberated, each of them huddled together, without a single gap, like a big pool of black tide, crossed the foundation of the wall, and rushed into a pit more than three meters deep.

Burst! Burst! Burst! Burst! Burst!

The body fell to the ground, and it was described as a dumpling, so that the number of these zombies could not be expressed.

Almost every second, there are thousands of zombies, swarmed, pushed and sent into the pit by their companions behind, and there are even many zombies that are already extremely rotten, who were directly thrown with missing arms and legs, and can only squirm and crawl, and some of the more unlucky ones were directly smashed into a puddle of rotten meat.

As the zombies' bodies grew higher and higher, they quickly piled up into a mountain, forming a huge layer of flesh made up of flesh, and then they were trampled by more zombies and continued to fall forward into the dirt pit.

In just a few minutes, more than 100,000 zombies entered this kilometer-long earthen pit.

"It's a spectacular scene, Mr. Custer, and it's really useful to deal with these gathered corpses."

Iron wolf Frank walked up to Leon with some shock in his eyes, and said with some emotion:

"When we were in New York, even if we were only faced with a horde of 10,000 zombies, we would become scrambling and even lose a lot of soldiers."

"They came from all directions, tireless, fearless, the guns in our hands simply could not do much damage to them, and some soldiers who were not accurate in their marksmanship did not even play any role."

He looked at the zombies piled up in the dirt pit, constantly struggling but unable to get out of the zombies that were crushed under him, and said with some excitement:

"It's a great way to promote, and it's a low-effort and safe strategy for the unimaginable number of corpses."

Leon shook his head, poured a basin of cold water, and said:

"This method is only suitable for dealing with the corpses that gather in the wild, it is difficult to find such a wide and excavated terrain in the city, and between those high-rise buildings, once we make too much noise, we need to face the siege of countless corpses in all directions, and the more people there are, the more difficult it is to get out."

Frank thought about it for a few seconds, thought of the danger his troops were encountering in New York, and nodded approvingly.

Everyone waited outside the pit for more than ten minutes, until many zombies got rid of the fate of being crushed under them, crawled out of the corpse pile, and gathered at their feet in Leon without forgetting their original intentions.

It wasn't until there weren't many zombies in the base outside the pit that Leon took out his walkie-talkie and said:

"Peggy, Sherman, send out a swarm of drones to lure zombies from other places over."

A pleasant female voice came over the radio.

"Got it, boss."

Leon looked at the accumulation of zombies in the pit and added.

"Try to spread them out evenly and don't let too many zombies pile up somewhere."

"Got it, no problem, boss."

In the drone command center, Peggy and Sherman siblings control their own drones while directing more than a dozen other students to start the first mission.

This mission is relatively simple, it is a bait mission that does not require fighting, so Leon specially asked the Peggy sisters and brothers to bring these students who are still in training to come over for the first actual combat training.

Under the command of the Peggy siblings, nearly thirty armed drones gradually rose into the air, with the buzz of their propellers, and flew into the interior of the Fort Benning Army Base, where they broke into pieces in the sky and spread out to various positions on the base.

Luring the zombies in all corners with drones is not a very quick job, and according to the maps prepared in advance, as well as the pre-assigned tasks, these drones start their work.

The buzzing noise of the propeller is very attractive to the zombies, according to the pre-arranged route, some of these drones attract hundreds of zombies at a time, some attract dozens of zombies at a time, and even some students are not skilled in operation, not only did not attract zombies, but also because of their operation errors, the drones crashed in obstacles.

But no matter what, after more than three hours, after the continuous action of thirty drones, except for some zombies that were locked in a specific area, almost all the zombies who could move freely in the base were led to the dirt pit.

As far as the eye can see, nearly 200,000 zombies are crowded in this dirt pit more than three meters deep and more than a thousand meters long, the dilapidated bodies occupy almost half of the area of the dirt pit, they stretched out their rotten palms, roaring and constantly scratching the hard soil under the feet of Leon and others, even if their fingers were broken and their palms were ground to bloody flesh, they did not stop at all.

The dense roar and the countless rotting faces huddled together and the pungent stench of rotting flesh made everyone around them dizzy.

It's hell.

Looking at this haunting scene in front of him, Leon thought for a few seconds, thoughtfully took a camera from the car, turned on the switch, and recorded all this creepy hell on earth.

He took the camera and recorded it for seven or eight minutes before he said to Frank and one of the team captains in the logistics department:

"Alright, let's execute the second step plan."
