Chapter 188: Pirates
Kennedy Playground.
Michonne put down the communicator in her hand, looked up at the slightly gloomy sky, turned to Jesus who was looking at her, and said:
"Retreat for the time being, and leave behind a reconnaissance team dedicated to scouting intelligence here."
"Your Excellency told me that it will not be long before we will send an army of two thousand men into the radiation zone and build a strong fortress."
"The clearing of the radiation zone has officially begun."
"In the future, this will be the front line of war."
"There can be no peace between the living and the dead, and the war between our Human Federation and the Corpse Whisperer Empire is about to begin."
………………
Federal Camp, New York.
After a long journey of more than ten days, the combined forces led by Rick and Sean finally reached the territory of the Federation.
As the host, the Governor of the Federation, Pamela, gave them a warm welcome, held a banquet for them, and showed them many federal shops and facilities.
After all, the soldiers of the People's Union are here to help them deal with the marauders at sea, and before the mission is completed, they can leave at any time, and they must be served.
As representatives of the Human Federation, Rick and Sean also behaved very politely, and this time they came with the two of them, as well as Colonel Glenn of the Military Department.
After ten years of training, this young Korean has gone from being a pizza delivery boy to a qualified army commander.
For many years, he had been stationed in a military fort in Tennessee, fending off enemies from the West at the headquarters of the People's Union, and now that time has passed, Glenn has married, had children, started his own family, and become a competent father.
For Rick and Sean, Glenn is actually the benefactor of the two of them, if it weren't for Glenn who went to the quarry camp to invite Sean and Lori to join the Human Federation organization despite the danger, and indirectly helped them, maybe at this time, the two would have become the souls of the apocalypse.
After a feast, the three of them politely refused the luxurious residence that the Federation had offered them, and returned to the camp where the People's Union army was stationed.
After eating and drinking, the three of them went to a private tent together and discussed their ideas.
Sean lay on a soft leather sofa, took out a cigar from his pocket, took a pleasant puff, and said with some schadenfreude:
"Rick, Glenn, you saw that too, right?"
"Haha, those so-called elites at the banquet, those lawyers, politicians, tycoons, factory owners."
"Seeing their fat heads and big ears and their mouths full of oil, do you know what came to mind?"
Rick didn't answer immediately, but glared at Sean and said:
"Sean, we are here this time to help the master fight."
"No matter what they do, we shouldn't denigrate them."
Knowing Rick's upright character, Sean spat out a puff of smoke rings, turned his head to look at Glenn, and said:
"Hey, Glenn, you've seen the scene along the way."
"The inhabitants of this place live like slaves, old and young people are hungry and thin, and listless, but the so-called high citizens, every one of them wears splendid clothes, enjoys exquisite food, and triumphantly appreciates the misery of the poor."
"I saw hatred and anger in the eyes of those civilians."
"It's like a powder keg here, and it only takes a little spark for their so-called high citizens and low citizens to fight and beat dog brains."
"We should be glad that we live in the People's Union, otherwise, with our former county police and delivery workers, we might have starved to death a long time ago."
Glenn, who had grown a short stubble, nodded worriedly, after all these years, his personality is still very kind, and he cares very much about the lives of the survivors at the bottom.
"Hey, yes, I thought that the federal organization, which numbered close to 30,000 people, would be a powerful gathering place for survivors to unite and help each other."
"Unexpectedly, the hierarchical division system implemented here should have been eliminated a long time ago."
"They divide all citizens into two classes, and they arbitrarily divide people into higher and lower citizens on the basis of their past occupation and status."
"Could it be that the so-called rich and politicians, these old men who have done nothing, will be more valuable than a strong labor force in this last days?"
Sean was speechless when he heard this, but suddenly laughed happily again, and said:
"Hey, that's actually not bad, maybe it won't be long before this so-called federation riots because of internal contradictions, and then freeze and collapse."
"When the time comes, we will be able to get tens of thousands of free laborers for free."
Rick was silent for a few seconds and said:
"Anyway, the Federation is now an ally of our Human Federation, and our mission this time is to help them deal with those marauders at sea."
"We can send someone to collect intelligence from within the Federation and then hand it over to His Excellency the President."
"As for what will happen in the future, it will be up to His Excellency the President to decide."
Glenn also sighed, and said with some sadness:
"Alas, I really hope that the matter here can be resolved peacefully, we humans have left too much blood."
The next day, the trio did not make too many stops at the federal camp, but returned with the soldiers to the place where the People's Union fleet had stopped, taking a guide assigned to them by Governor Pamela.
According to the available information, from the mouth of this guide named Ada, Rick and the others knew that about every half month or so, some strongholds along the coast of the Federation would be plundered by those sea marauders.
Ten days had passed since the last time they had been plundered by these marauders, and it was customary for the despicable pirates to move again in a few days.
Hearing this, Glenn asked with some curiosity:
"Miss Ada, haven't you fought these marauders at all after all this time?"
"The more detailed information we have about them, the more helpful it will be for our strategy."
Ida is a well-built, Asian woman in her thirties, who can be appointed by the female governor Pamela to serve as a guide, and is certainly not an ordinary female clerk.
At least in the eyes of Rick and Sean, they could tell that Ada must have had experience in the military, was agile, and had good marksmanship.
Faced with Glenn's question, Ida thought for a moment, and then said:
"Mr. Glenn, although we have announced to the public, we have not directly clashed with this group of marauders."
"But really, how can those marauders not fight our inhabitants when they plunder our strongholds?"
She sighed and continued:
"But for the sake of public pressure, we can't tell the truth to our people."
"But since we are all allies, and you are here to deal with these dastardly marauders, we really shouldn't hide it."
Seeing that the guide's face was not good, Rick felt that maybe things were not as simple as the Federation had said.
Sure enough, Ada's next words also confirmed Rick's conjecture.
"Mr. Rick, these pirates didn't flee fast enough for our soldiers to pursue."
"The reason why it's so hard for us to find them is that almost every stronghold they plunder, there are hardly any living mouths, and not even corpses."
"Every time we get the news, the place where the crime occurred has already been empty."
"We only learned about these marauders from the mouths of a few survivors who were lucky enough to hide."
Rick and the others immediately frowned, robbing supplies and killing people are two different things, and a looter who can do something to kill the human survivors can no longer be called human.
There is no essential difference between them and those mutated monsters that eat people.
Sean, who was standing on the side, also asked:
"Miss Ada, is there anything else you can tell us?"
"You should also know that the more information you know, the better it will be for our battle."
When the female guide heard this, she struggled for a few seconds, and finally said:
"I don't know much, but I've heard that some of the survivors who survived seemed to go crazy and spout gibberish all day long."
"They always shouted and said, bugs, bugs, it seems to have seen something terrible."
"Perhaps, these pirates have some secret that no one knows."
Glenn also saw Ada's embarrassment, maybe the Federation didn't want to hide this matter, but they didn't have enough information to make the wrong guidance.
"Thank you, Miss Ada, and please do your best to help us in the future."
"Let's take out this group of scumbags who should have died a long time ago."
In the next few days, in order to make better use of the advantage of the sneak attack, Glenschweig and the others did not announce their arrival with great fanfare.
Instead, they found a hidden harbor on the seashore, hid the fleet of the People's Union inside, and planted many combat engineers who operated reconnaissance drones near some of the Federation's strongholds along the coast, using these high-tech devices that are difficult for ordinary people to detect, to monitor those strongholds that are easy to be looted.
After all, the sea was too vast, and with the military strength they had brought with them, it would be difficult to find those pirate ships in such a large area.
In that case, it is better to wait in these places that are easy to be raided, and the chances of success may be greater.
And things did go as they expected, perhaps because the persimmon of the Federation was too soft and easy to pinch.
These foreign pirates had no idea that there would be other enemies against them, and a few days later, one morning, a stronghold monitored by a reconnaissance drone was raided by a group of pirates.
Looking at the scene in the surveillance screen, Ada frowned and said:
"This is the No. 3 salt field stronghold, one of the strongholds of our federation to dry sea salt."
In the picture, a group of bearded, tattered marauders dressed in all kinds of dirty clothes broke into the vicinity of the stronghold, they were armed with various guns, including pistols, submachine guns, shotguns, and civilian single-shot rifles, which did not look too sophisticated, and could only be said to be at the level of ordinary marauders.
But the number of these marauders is very large, in the face of a small stronghold of only thirty or forty people, the number of their dispatch is close to a hundred, and the inhabitants of the Federation are also very average in combat, and even many residents do not have guns in their hands, the two sides collide together, and the disadvantage of victory and defeat is quickly revealed.
The Federated inhabitants in the stronghold were suppressed by the marauders outside, and although the two sides fought back and forth, the casualties on the marauders' side were almost negligible.
If it weren't for the fact that there was a wall of about two meters inside the stronghold, which largely blocked the raids of the marauders, otherwise, these Federation residents would not have lasted a few minutes before they would have been defeated by the marauders outside.
However, now that the situation is urgent, in order to save the Federation residents in the stronghold, everyone no longer has the heart to pay attention to the battle video, and they have rushed to the place where the battle took place as quickly as possible.
Fortunately, the location where the battle took place was not too far from the hiding place of their fleet, and in about ten minutes, the fleet of the People's Federation had already approached there.
Through their binoculars, they could already see even the dozen or so dilapidated wooden sailing boats that the marauders had stopped on the coast.
The reason why it is a wooden sailboat, that is also a matter of course.
You know, in this world, except for Professor White in the Human Federation who has found the right way to purify fuel and allow modern ships to start, it is basically impossible for other forces to use fuel-powered ships anymore.
After a few more minutes, the marauders on the dozen or so sailing ships also seemed to spot the human fleet that was rapidly approaching them.
But I don't know if I can't help myself, or I am very confident in my own strength, these dozen or so wooden sailing ships actually rushed directly towards the fleet organized by the People's Federation.
Although the organization uses small and medium-sized boats such as cruise ships or fishing boats, which are smaller in size than the wooden sailing boats they don't know where to find, it is simply stupid that wooden ships dare to challenge modern ships with all-metal structures.
Glenn commanded the fleet toward the Marauders' galleons and gave the order to break away from the fleet to the cruise ship that Rick was on.
He was ordered to lead several Stinger Squad fighters on the cruise ship to the saltworks stronghold where the battle took place, and try to save the inhabitants there.
After all, the inhabitants of the Federation are now their allies, and they can't just focus on fighting and abandon the lives of those inhabitants.
After a few more minutes, the distance between the two sides was close to about a kilometer.
However, since neither side is a warship fighting at sea, and there is no long-range torpedo or artillery attack, only a few sharpshooters on the side of the People's Union can use sniper rifles to attack the predators on the opposite side.
Soon, however, Glenn noticed something strange, and his snipers said that the marauders on the opposite side were very strange.
Although the snipers' hit rate was not high because of the turbulence on the sea, the snipers who hit the enemy clearly saw that the marauders who were shot in the chest and abdomen with their sniper rifles did not die directly like ordinary people.
Even after a sniper bullet had a bloody hole in their chest, the marauders would still stare at them with hideous expressions, shouting out something nonsense, as if the wound on their chest did not affect their lives at all.
This strange phenomenon immediately caught Glenn's attention, and his first thought was that the predators on the other side were not actually humans, but some kind of mutated monster, like zombies.
However, he soon rejected his idea, after all, the marauder on the other side had come in a sailboat, could it be that the monster was smart enough to steer a sailboat?
As the commander of the battle, Glenn immediately suppressed the surprise in his heart, and continued to command his soldiers with a calm expression, saying:
"Prepare to turn, don't approach their ship for a while, don't engage in broadside combat with them."
"We want to use the advantage in weapons, take advantage of the advantage in speed, and consume their strength."
