Chapter 29: Mr. Tang's Credibility
"Mr. Norrington, I think this is the second time we've met."
Even on the largest merchant ship in Port Royal, there was still a certain gap in size with the intrepid, and Townsend stood on the bow of the merchant ship, holding the side of the ship, to see that it was at level with Norrington standing on the middle deck of the intrepid.
Norrington was obviously not in the mood to make small talk with Townsen, and before he could recover from the shock of being surrounded by merchant ships, he saw the familiar faces on the merchant ships opposite.
His gaze swept over the faces of the soldiers who were not wearing military uniforms, and their faces were more ugly than ever.
"What does that mean?"
"Sergeant Wallace, Sergeant Norman, Warrant Officer Tom..." Norrington read out the names of the soldiers one by one, and each time they read someone, their eyes involuntarily looked away.
Facing their immediate superiors, the soldiers still couldn't hide their weakness.
Only Warrant Officer Tom remained staring straight at him, even smiling with contempt.
"If I'm not mistaken, I've given you an order to stay in Port Royal, can you explain why you are on an Oriental private ship?"
Norrington's tone was filled with anger, "And you even brought ordnance... You must not use ordnance without a military uniform, where do you put the rules of the English navy? β
He slapped the side of the ship vigorously and angrily rebuked: "Queue me up at once, return to Port Royal and wait for disposal!" β
Soldiers, you look at me, I look at you, a little hesitant.
"Ahem." Townsend interrupted the soldiers' entanglement and spoke, "Mr. Norrington, they are now my crew, and I am afraid you have no right to dispose of them." β
"Brigadier General! It's Brigadier General Norrington! Norrington turned to Townsend and roared, "Oriental! Hire the Royal Navy of England and it looks like you can't wait to get to the gallows. β
"On the sea, no one can keep you."
Tang Sen's face turned slightly cold, and he corrected, "I have a surname, Mr. Norrington. β
"I need to remind you that if you continue to use this rude salutation, I don't need to be polite to you."
Norrington laughed angrily, "What are you?" β
"Threaten the Royal Navy officer, the crime is added to the first degree, soldier, catch him for me!"
The soldiers on the merchant ship remained motionless.
"Good! Very good! Norrington glared at them fiercely, "It seems that you have forgotten the glory of being an English soldier. β
He turned back to the soldiers on the Intrepid and ordered, "Are you deaf? Grab your guns! β
Most of the Dreadnought's sailors looked around, they had already received a message from Captain Locke, and they were really reluctant to pay the sky-high salary that Mr. Tang had promised.
Only a small part of the navy was clearly a die-hard Norrington loyalist, and they aimed their guns cleanly at Townsen.
Seeing this scene, the other soldiers could only hesitantly unload the flintlock pistols on their backs.
The moment they raised their guns, Tom was already in front of Townesend, and the soldiers on the merchant ship had to raise their flintlock pistols and aim them at the opposite side.
All of a sudden, the situation became tense.
"Mr. Norrington." Tang Sen suddenly spoke: "I'm afraid you don't realize your situation. β
"Around you, a whole thirty-four boats, hundreds of heavily armed soldiers, and thousands of able-bodied sailors, are you sure you want to point a gun at me?"
Norrington sneered, "Do you think these merchant ships can hold off the dreadnought's cannons?" β
"Stop." Tang Sen said seriously: "However, many people will die, it may be you, it may be your former colleagues, and of course, there are a large number of innocent citizens. β
He raised his voice: "Soldiers, are you willing to pull the trigger in your hands at the cost of a restless conscience for the rest of your life, even your own lives?" β
The Dreadnought's soldiers looked at each other, both seeing the flinching in each other's eyes.
"Now the soldiers who lay down their guns are ten pounds each." Townsend struck while the iron was hot.
The muzzles of many soldiers began to move downward.
"Don't listen to him!" Norrington shouted, "Whoever dares to put down the gun is disobedient!" Do you want to go to the gallows? β
"Twenty pounds each." Townsend ignored Norrington's clamor and indifferently stepped up.
More soldiers were ready to put down their guns.
Norrington suddenly felt bad in his heart, he pointed at Townsend and shouted: "Catch him, his wealth belongs to us all, and I will distribute it to everyone fairly!" β
"Mr. Norrington is so generous." Tang Sen sneered: "It's a pity, empty checks can't make people desperate. β
He looked at his soldiers and raised his voice: "Gentlemen, hold your guns steady, and anyone on the Dreadnought who dares to resist is not polite, fifty pounds for the common soldier, a hundred pounds for the lieutenant, and if any warrior can control Mr. Norrington, I am willing to reward a thousand pounds!" β
As soon as the words fell, the sailors on the merchant ship suddenly grabbed the swords at their waists and shouted excitedly: "Mr. Tang! Can we participate? β
They are people who wander on the sea, and they don't mind breaking some laws in the face of great wealth.
"Of course, gentlemen." Townsend laughed, "I mean, if they resist. β
He looked back at the soldiers on the Dreadnought and said slowly:
"I wonder if the soldiers would choose to lay down their guns and choose the wealth at their fingertips, or would they choose to gamble their lives on the promises of Colonel Norrington and me, which would be more effective. I think gentlemen should know Mr. Norrington better than I do. β
"The last chance, now put down the gun, fifty pounds...... I think our gentlemen are a little impatient. β
Whew-
The cuff rubbing sounded in unison, and almost most of the muzzles were lowered, which was clearly a multiple-choice question in the minds of the Dreadnought soldiers.
Look at the reddened eyes on the other side, put down the gun and lose it may be the job, and continue to resist and lose the life!
"Hey."
A sigh of disappointment rang out above the merchant ship.
"You... You guys! Brigadier General Norrington's face turned pale: "Stupid! Could it be that some gold coins were more important than the identity of the English Navy? Just catch him, and you won't get more, right? β
He reached for his waist and was about to pull out his flintlock pistol.
"I'm afraid we trust Mr. Tang's credibility more, Brigadier General." Captain Locke suddenly pulled out the flintlock pistol at his waist and aimed it at Brigadier General Norrington.
"You... What do you mean? Norrington looked at his lieutenant in disbelief.
"The royal family doesn't give us a reward of fifty pounds, you say, Brigadier General, andβ"
Captain Locke ignored him, but looked at Tang Sen and said, "Mr. Tang, it seems that Brigadier General Norrington is still ready to resist, so can I control Norrington?" β
"Captain Locke, you're a smart man." Townsend laughed and said:
"A thousand pounds, I will do what I say."
As soon as the words fell, the soldiers on the Intrepid reacted instantly, and one by one they rushed towards the Norrington diehard soldiers who were still holding their guns.
