Chapter 185: Decide the winner in the way of a soothsayer
The screams were not far away, and as the two of them scurried towards that side, they saw more and more students, until the foyer was crowded with people in front of them.
Professor McGonagall had to raise her voice and shout to separate the students from the aisle before she could finally see what was going on.
A woman with messy hair was kneeling on the ground, holding a wand in one hand and an empty wine bottle in the other, looking scruffy and broken.
Townsend noticed that the other man's rather rustic glasses were crooked, and that the two glasses were not the same size, and beside him, there were two large boxes, messily upside down, looking like they had been thrown down the stairs.
"Professor Trelawney!"
Professor McGonagall exclaimed, ignoring Townson, and quickly stepped forward to help her up, "What happened?" β
"I-" Professor Trelawney muttered with a drunken face and a frustrated face, "I'm fired. β
The next moment, her voice suddenly sharpened, and the voice spread throughout the hallway.
"Nope! This can't happen. I refuse to accept it! β
She stared in one direction, and Townsend followed her gaze, and then saw Umbridge's face squeezed with smugnessβTownsend almost believed that the idiom of villain triumph was coined for her expression, and she said in a sharp, deliberately pinched voice:
"You should have realized it a long time ago, Trelawney."
"Your poor performance when I inspected your class, and your divination skills that you couldn't even predict tomorrow's weather. I'll call it divination, anyway, why would you be surprised that you were fired? β
"You can't fire me!" Trelawney exclaimed, excited, with tears streaming down her eyes, "I've been here for sixteen years!" Hogwarts is my home! β
"Not anymore." Umbridge admired her expression.
She spoke quickly, looking around at all the students present like a speech, and raised her chin: "My responsibility is to improve the educational environment at Hogwarts, how can I accept a waste of educational resources by someone like you?" β
"Leaving here with your salute and the smell of alcohol in your body is already too much of a delay in the students' time."
"I'm afraid not." A deep voice rang out from above the stairs.
"Who?" Umbridge screamed as if her face had changed, and she looked angrily in that direction, only to see the students spontaneously separate in a way, and the wizard in a dark purple robe embroidered with stars, and a sharp-horned wizard's hat slowly walked down.
This was the first time Townsend had seen Dumbledore, he was taller than Townsend had imagined, with a long white beard, looking at the headmaster of Hogwarts School, the greatest white wizard of his time, some outrageous thoughts popped into Townsen's mind at an inopportune time.
"This old man looks good at using a sword. Well, it would be more appropriate if you changed into a gray robe. β
Obviously, Dumbledore's attention was not on Townsen, he walked up to Trelawney and said gently, "Sybil, calm down, things are not as bad as you think, you don't need to leave Hogwarts." β
Umbridge let out a particularly ugly scream, and she strode up to Dumbledore, raising her hand to point at his nose, but gave up in Dumbledore's calm, deep eyes, and she lowered her hand as if to hide her embarrassment, and pulled out a paper.
"Professor Dumbledore, I'm afraid you don't know yet!"
She shook the papers, "The Minister for Magic has signed a dismissal order for Sybil Trelawney, and I, the High Inquisitor at Hogwarts, have the authority to inspect, retain, and fire any teacher who does not meet the standards of the Ministry of Magic, under Education Order Twenty-Three. Apparently you have no right to stop me. β
Dumbledore looked at her calmly and said, "Professor Umbridge, of course you have the right to dismiss my teachers, but I'm afraid you don't have the right to expel them from the castle. β
He politely owed: "I think this right still belongs to the principal." β
Umbridge's face froze for a moment, but she quickly screamed, "But I've appointed a new teacher of divination, and I'm afraid Lady Trelawney will have to move out of her office and living room." β
"Really?" Dumbledore looked at Umbridge in surprise, "I think if my school has a new teacher, as the headmaster I have the right to know." β
"I was about to tell you." Umbridge exclaimed, "After the Minister for Magic and the Hogwarts High Investigator, who is me, we thinkβ"
"No, Professor Umbridge, I'm sorry to inform you, I'm afraid I can't accept it." Dumbledore interrupted Umbridge and said calmly, "I've found a new Divination professor, and coincidentally, I just invited him to visit Hogwarts today. β
He turned his head to the door, and in the dusk, the sound of horses' hooves came from far and near, and the frightened whispers of the students sounded in the hall, and the students gathered in front of the door retreated in a panic.
A centaur walked in with a crisp step.
He had pale blonde hair, eyes that were surprisingly blue, and a human head and upper body resting on a tawny horse.
"This is Ferenze." Dumbledore happily introduced, "If you weren't distracted in the Magtericraft class at Hogwarts, Professor Umbridge, you should know that Ferenze has a gift for races, and he has a far more understanding of astrology than wizards. β
Umbridge opened her mouth wide and stared at the centaur with a look of horror and disgust, her expression as uncomfortable as if she had eaten a fly.
After a few seconds, in the silence, she suddenly screamed, no, her short and fat body jumped straight up, waving the papers in her hand like a madman.
"No, Dumbledore, no!"
She exclaimed, "I will never allow this creature to enter Hogwarts!" β
"Call me Professor Dumbledore, please." Dumbledore reminded, "According to the Ministry of Magic's Education Order No. 22, the Ministry of Magic has the power to appoint teachers if and only if the headmaster cannot find a suitable candidate, and I think the divination teacher I am looking for is a good fit, so-"
He squeezed his eyes: "Let's end this farce, the students should go to dinner." β
Umbridge stood there in a huff, and everyone could see that she was almost angry, and she stared angrily at the students who were snickering at the sight of her being deflated, and was about to roar when she suddenly saw a figure in the crowd.
Instead, she calmed down, took a deep breath, squeezed out a smile again, and said, "Professor Dumbledore, of course I will abide by the education decree issued by the Ministry of Magic, but the problem is that the selection of teachers is not up to you alone. β
She finally saw a look of surprise on Dumbledore's face, and she walked excitedly with small steps, "I think a decent and knowledgeable soothsayer is more suitable for the position of professor of divination than a filthy beast that has escaped from the Forbidden Forest." β
With that, she had already walked up to Townsend and said loudly, "Let me introduce you, Professor Dumbledore, this is Mr. Tang from the East, and the Minister of Magic and I both think that it is more suitable to teach divination!" β
Everyone, whether it was the classroom or the students, was all focused on Townsend.
"I don't think I need to introduce myself." With a calm smile on his face, Townsend met Dumbledore's deep eyes.
"Long admired the Great Name, Professor Dumbledore."
"Mr. Tang." Dumbledore nodded calmly and politely, and said, "Professor Flitwick and I mentioned you, and I was going to meet with you soon, but of course, it's not too late. β
"I hope he didn't speak ill of me." Townsend made a joke.
"He said you had a pioneering idea for divination." Dumbledore said this, but looked away again, and said, "But I still haven't changed my mind, I think that Ferenze is more suitable for the position of professor of divination." β
Umbridge sneered and said, "It looks like I need to report today's matter to Secretary Fudge, and he will be happy to sign another education decree on how to define the word 'appropriate'." β
The students glared at Umbridge's fake tiger behavior.
By the way, Tang Sen also gained a lot of angry glances.
So Townsend coughed lightly twice, breaking the awkward atmosphere, until everyone's eyes were drawn to him, and he said softly, "I have no intention of interfering with Professor Dumbledore and Professor Umbridge's decision, to be honest, I just came for an interview but I was thinking-"
"Why not let the students decide on their own professors?"
He smiled and said, "I think that only students who have experienced teaching first-hand know what kind of professor is more suitable." β
As soon as she said this, Umbridge jumped to her feet, and she said quickly, "No, there's no need to be so troublesome, the Minister of Magic and I will take care of this-"
"Professor Umbridge." Townsend interrupted.
Obviously, this witch who has not interviewed herself at all, or even only seen her side, has no confidence in herself, what she did today is only to attack Dumbledore's authority, and naturally she does not want to let the situation get out of her control and be slapped in the face again.
But this is not what Townsend is happy to see, if he really relies on some ridiculous education decree issued by the Minister of Magic to make himself a professor of divination, then he will be completely tied to Umbridge's camp.
Townsend didn't want to be boycotted by all the teachers and students before the plan began, and then be swept away half a year later.
So he said seriously, "I appreciate your importance of me, but my goal in coming to Hogwarts is to communicate and promote divination. β
"So, I'm looking forward to talking to Mr. Ferencze and joining Hogwarts in the right way."
Umbridge's face turned ugly, and he stared at Townsend and said, "If you loseβ"
Townsend laughed, he took out a gold coin and expertly tossed it.
"I'm a soothsayer, and whether I win or lose is not something unknown to me."
Picking up the coin, he showed the front of the coin.
"Obviously, I'm going to win."
