Chapter 7 is called professionalism
"This was undoubtedly a premeditated murder."
Coulson came up to set the tone for the case, and he told it methodically, coming up with evidence to support it as the story progressed.
"On June 17, Ms. Selena tweeted a story."
He showed a screenshot of Selena's Twitter and read
"Tomorrow at two o'clock in the afternoon, I will reveal a little secret of His Excellency Judge Brooklyn Lee, and I am sure the public will be interested in the little fetish of this rising star of the judiciary. Everyone is welcome to listen."
"Brooklyn Lee saw this tweet, and in order to prevent Selena from revealing his little secret, he went to Ms. Selena the next day."
Coulson showed the crowd a surveillance video that clearly and completely recorded Brooklyn's drive into Selena's home.
"Brooklyn Lee has great conversation skills, and he quickly coaxed Ms. Selena to great amusement."
But Selena insisted on revealing Brooklyn Lee's little secret, and Brooklyn Lee was furious and killed Selena with a dinner knife.
The goblets on the dining table, half a bottle of red wine, the umbrella in the trash can, the marks on the sofa, and the bodily fluids on the floor were exposed to the public, causing a burst of exclamations.
Coulson's speech was wonderful, passionate and infectious, and he himself was satisfied, slowly sitting down amid the commotion of the reporters. He even glanced over to Brooklyn.
Brooklyn didn't stare at him anymore halfway through, his full attention on the jury.
The 11 jurors had different expressions, with Nos. 1 and 5 already glaring at him unkindly, and Nos. 14 and 39 looking hesitantly, looking at Brooklyn and Coulson. The rest listened attentively with blank faces.
Obviously, No. 1 and No. 5 will be his key targets in the future.
Walls like 14 and 39 can be treated as if they don't exist.
The rest were obviously experienced and clear-headed, and they didn't easily believe Coulson's claims.
Brooklyn is pleased with the current jury composition.
"I did go to Selena's house. We talked a lot, about the past, about the present, and about the future. ”
Brooklyn admits to having been to Selena's house, but does not admit that they had a conflict.
"As for the conflict, I don't know."
"I don't think anybody is going to play cards with each other after yelling."
Brooklyn studied Selena carefully, and combining the memories in his head with the tweets he had read last night, he was almost certain that Selena was in a bad mental state.
This kind of bad has been going on for almost a year now.
"In fact, not only did we not argue, but we had a good conversation – at least at first."
"It makes me think Selena she's fine."
"Unfortunately, she's sicker."
"After playing cards, she quickly turned her face and rushed out of the bathroom, still holding a knife in her hand, and rushed to me angrily."
"I was terrified, scared. I tried to soothe her, but it didn't work. ”
"She yelled at me to destroy me and stabbed herself in the stomach."
At this point, Brooklyn paused slightly, frowning, the corners of his mouth pulled down, his hands on his face, and his head slightly raised, accurately performing the state of "the past is unbearable".
"I was terrified. Sitting on the couch in a daze. By the time I came to my senses, she was lying on the ground. I hurried to draw my knife to save her. But she's dead. ”
Brooklyn's voice was muffled, sounding low and lost.
He stopped talking, his shoulders drooped, and shuffled back to the dock.
Of course, he was performing, showing to the jury, but also to the media and every audience watching the live broadcast in front of the camera.
Statistics show that juries favor emotional defendants, and even if they are ultimately found guilty, they will recommend a lighter sentence to the judge.
Coulson was slow to get up and speak, and he frowned at Brooklyn, who was "immersed in grief."
Brooklyn's opening statement was nothing like he had envisioned.
As a qualified lawyer, after mastering a certain amount of evidence, he will have a basic judgment on the direction of the case, and based on this judgment, he will preset several rebuttal ideas of the other party in his heart.
Opening statements often reveal the focus of the arguments on both sides.
Brooklyn's speech sounded a bit evasive to Coulson, who bypassed the conflict and sounded like he was going to focus on Selena's mental state.
This was something he hadn't expected before.
The case was handled in such a hurry that he only read the information in the early hours of this morning, and did not find any information about Selena's mental state. It made him feel bad.
Coulson thought about it and did not submit the evidence in the order of the list of evidence, but directly applied for Exhibit No. 17, the post-mortem report.
He was going to test it first.
In more complex cases, the post-mortem report is usually used in conjunction with coroner's witnesses.
"From the autopsy report, we can see that the murderer was very decisive, quick to strike, accurate in angle, killed with one blow, and did not hesitate."
Coulson pointed to the autopsy report and talked eloquently
"We are afraid of pain and subconsciously react when the pain exceeds the tolerance range to avoid further pain."
"Statistics show that in the case of wrist cutting, the wound is often not made overnight, and the wound of the suicide is usually very messy, with multiple and repetitive cut marks."
"And a lay person will be more painful. Non-specialists don't know enough about the anatomy of the human body, and even if they do, they often need to try several times to get it into the right place. ”
"And the choice of suicide is often an impulsive decision, and in the pain of repeated attempts, the courage to commit suicide has often been exhausted."
"In order to make suicide easier, most people who commit suicide will choose a faster, more direct, irreversible and unrepeatable death. For example, jumping off a building and swallowing drugs.
Very few people will choose to cut their own body with a knife. The pain often takes away the courage to commit suicide. ”
"This is completely contrary to the state of affairs presented in this case."
"Ms. Selena doesn't have any knowledge of anatomy, and she doesn't have the knowledge to quickly and accurately find the right place and get it right the first time."
Brooklyn watched Coulson perform in silence, and the first exhibits he presented and the remarks he made did not surprise him.
Both sides knew in their hearts that if Brooklyn were allowed to continue to question the nature of the case, the situation would be detrimental to the prosecution.
The nature of the case is the foundation of the trial, and Brooklyn came up and wielded a hoe to dig at the other party's foundation, how could he not fight back.
Coulson finished speaking, and it was Brooklyn's turn to cross-examine.
"I'd like to ask you to stick out your thumb and forefinger."
Brooklyn walked up to the judge's bench and turned to face the crowd, raising his right hand and making an "8" gesture.
"Try to choke your thighs with them and keep pushing hard."
The jury and reporters are preparing to do so.
"Against! Nothing to do with this case! ”
Coulson unsurprisingly objected, and Judge Anna unsurprisingly agreed.
"Your Excellency, if you allow me to continue, I will soon know what it is relevant to this case."
Brooklyn said unhurriedly.
Soon, most of the people who were afraid of the pain let go of their hands.
After another minute of waiting, people let go one after another.
When the minute was over, no one in the room made it.
