Chapter 65: The Thunder Controversy
Michael approached Brooklyn to ask him about the reasons and consequences of his sentence.
Brooklyn answered well.
The federal is a case law country, and the case of the divorce of Carroll is not the only case in which reason prevails over legal reason.
Since the Carroll judgment can be used as a precedent, it is also possible to use a case in which legal reason prevails over reasonableness as a precedent.
"There used to be. But no one is as bold as you. β
Michael understood Brooklyn's overtones, and Ku shook his head with a smile.
"There have been several rulings in history where reason is greater than legal reason, which time has it not caused a sensation in the entire federation?"
It is precisely because 'public opinion' promotes reason that the court is 'forced' to make a ruling that is more reasonable than legal, and this is only an exception, and it is the judge who is 'forced' by public opinion, and he does not want it.
If reason is greater than law than law is handled in such a silent manner as the Carroll case, then isn't it a court recognizing that legal reason can give in to reason?
"I don't, don't talk nonsense." Brooklyn jumped up, looked like, 'I don't know you,' and waved his hand, "It's all your own imagination." β
"That's not what I thought in court. My judgment is based on the previous precedents. β
"How can you smear people's innocence out of thin air."
Brooklyn muttered.
"What did you say?"
Michael didn't hear what Brooklyn was saying at the end and asked suspiciously.
"Nothing. I said don't worry, soon the media will be drawn to the arson case and completely forget who Carol is. β
"I heard that there was another fight in the courtroom?"
Michael nodded, and seeing that Brooklyn had a plan in mind, he changed the subject.
"I'm a criminal court, a criminal court!" Brooklyn was angry when he mentioned this, and he was angry and said bitterly to Michael
"Who are the suspects in my court? Murderers, serial murderers, KB molecules! β
"If you're in the same room with someone like that, you'll give me two bailiffsβ"
"Three" Michael corrected.
"Two!"
"Bob is already my judge's assistant! Now I only have two bailiffs!!! β
"And what do you want to do?"
Seeing that he was about to talk about the core issue, Michael simply began to mess up, looking like a dead pig who was not afraid of boiling water.
He lazily lay down on the couch, squinting at Brooklyn, making it clear that 'if you don't have someone, you need to die'.
"Your bailiff training and selection, can you hurry up?"
Brooklyn asked helplessly
"It's been three days, and you're still signing up, how long do you plan to sign up? One month? A year? β
"When this batch of bailiffs is trained, will they go to the cemetery to be a bailiff for me?"
"But now there are only 7 people in total......
Michael got up, typed on the keyboard for a moment, and then turned the computer screen to show Brooklyn.
The dignified government department, the bailiff expanded the recruitment, and only 7 people signed up in three days!
"Then these seven. Follow-up and recruitment. β
Brooklyn glanced at it, saw the name of 'Ray Leonard' prominently listed, and said
"You can take this as the norm and recruit people from the public for a long time. After accumulating enough batches, the training will begin. β
"I'm going to open the Monrika arson case soon." Seeing Michael's hesitation, Brooklyn said, "There is a lot of pressure on public opinion in this case, and the onlookers will definitely block the corridor at that time." β
"There's a lot of pressure on the bailiffs."
"One is not good, there is a stampede, don't blame me."
"Seven people, I can only share one of you."
Michael relented, and he counted with his fingers
"No. 6, No. 11, No. 17, No. 19, No. 20 are all needed."
"No. 3, No. 18 have only one bailiff. You have to arrange people. β
"The other tribunals are two ......"
"Okay, I want this!"
Brooklyn interrupted Michael, leaned over for a moment, and casually pointed at Ray.
Faced with Michael's inquiring gaze, Brooklyn frankly admitted, "I know him." He retired from the military and participated in battles. β
"You ......"
Michael looked suspiciously at the computer screen, where Ray was dressed in a military uniform and with medals all over his chest.
"I'll leave first, bye."
Brooklyn didn't give him a chance to speak, turned around, took his leave, and did it in one go.
December 30th.
A new group of bailiffs is about to pass the training, and word of the assignment spreads from one chamber to the other chambers of the court.
Early in the morning, Michael's office was packed. The judges of each division and their assistants gathered together and came to rob people.
Brooklyn passed by the door, glanced inside, and hurried back to his office.
"Bob!"
Putting down the papers, Brooklyn shouted at the top of his voice.
"What's going on over there with Judge Michael?"
Bob rushed into the office with a stack of papers.
"I heard that I went to rob people."
Brooklyn thought for a moment, felt that what he had talked about yesterday was not sure enough, got up and called Nelly, and the three of them went out together and joined the army of robbers.
Seven people, twenty courts, more monks and less porridge!
The noise continued until nearly nine o'clock, when the judges dispersed and returned to their offices in twos and threes to prepare for the trial.
Brooklyn wasn't too active in this robbery, he just kept an eye on Michael to prevent Ray from being snatched by someone else.
A man like Ray, who had served in the army and was full of honors, was very popular, and almost every one of the twenty judges fell in love with him.
As for Ray's military background, and his bad relationship with the military?
What's the matter with our courts?
No matter how powerful the military is, it cannot meddle in the affairs of the judicial system in an open and honest manner.
Back at the office, Ben Stone still hadn't arrived.
Brooklyn changed into a legal robe, went to court with the file in his hand, and continued to clean up the remaining cases at hand.
In preparation for the Monrika-Emma case, Brooklyn has stopped taking on new indictments and is working hard to clean up the existing cases at hand.
At the end of the day, another case was solved, and Brooklyn went home from work satisfied.
As soon as he got home, he received a call from Ray, telling him to go to David's house.
When Brooklyn drove to David's house, Ray and David were eating around the fireplace with pizza and beer.
"Call me and invite me to pizza?"
Brooklyn looked disgusted, grabbed a piece of pizza and took a bite, even more disgusted.
Sweet and sour, salty, spicy, this taste is really rich.
"How's the student suicide investigation?"
Brooklyn put down the pizza, opened himself a can of beer, and asked casually.
"No clues."
David shook his head and shoved the rest of the pizza into his mouth fiercely, chewing as hard as if he were chewing on the murderer.
"Didn't you say there was a survivor?"
"That student was diagnosed with a mental illness." Ray began, "The evidence he gave doesn't exist. β
Seeing Brooklyn come over, Ray spread his hands.
"You're not going to follow David all the time, are you?"
"Ray is interested in this case." David picked up another slice of pizza and interjected, "I think Ray would be more suitable for our murder team." β
"What kind of bailiff to go with you is a waste of thunder."
"What a waste of things!"
Brooklyn became vigilant and immediately retorted.
This is really a day and night defense, and it is difficult to prevent thieves. He was fighting back and forth with 19 judge colleagues outside, but he didn't expect David to steal from behind!
