Chapter Twenty-Nine: The Past
After a month in the hospital, Lee was finally recovering, and to his surprise, Goldman hadn't sent anyone to contact him for so long. This is rare in the history of the FBI, but he doesn't want Helen to know about his own internal situation.
During his time in the hospital, Helen took care of him like a real wife, bathing and changing clothes, adding clothes and food, and signing the operation notice as his nominal wife. He was somewhat grateful to Helen, who was traditionally Chinese and had a far better understanding of warmth and affection than the Anglo-Saxons. When Lee was six years old, his father was killed, and although his mother and stepfather later taught him to convince people with love, the awakening consciousness that came with growing up made him involuntarily obey his heart, the "conscience" in Yang Ming Xinxue. He thinks Helen is good, but he feels that it is far from love.
Lee's first love was a white girl, chubby, and running like a ripe persimmon. Lee's encounter with her was serendipitous, wonderful, and unselectable, yet fatalistic. After his father's death, his mother took him away from New York, which made him sad, and moved to live in a small town in New Jersey. This town is called Seagull City, this school is called Seagull Middle School, and this girl is called Susan.
Susan was a tall, chubby little girl who grabbed a lot of money in the middle schools of the United States. There are a little freckles on his face, but he is very cheerful, and his smile melts everything around him. Lee and she weren't in the same class, they were in the same class, and the classrooms were next door. It's not a public school, so the teachers are usually quite strict. Even so, then again, how can there be a school without a few little bully?
Lee came home alone after school, accustomed to the cynicism of the white boys in his class, and just walked on his own. They did it once, and Lee was beaten up by three guys, but they didn't fall behind. This is due to Lee's usual conscious physical exercise, in order to avenge his father, since the age of 10, he insisted on running more than 5,000 meters every day, this is a world of the jungle, Lee feels that he should understand this earlier than other classmates. But one of the guys who bullied him ran out and called his brother. The newcomer was tall and big, with his fists clenched and his bowl wide open, and Lee was soon knocked to his stomach, bleeding from his mouth and nose.
Susan, who was passing by, saw this, threw down her school bag, bravely rushed over, covered Lee with her body, and accused the gang of bullying the less. Susan's father was a well-known photographer who was once invited by the principal to be a guest at the opening ceremony. Susan followed the light and was also a minor celebrity in the school. Those people also felt that they had enough of fighting, and Susan Mei saved the hero, so they scolded and walked away.
Lee wasn't badly hurt, he struggled to his feet, pretended to be composure, and walked in the direction of home. Susan looked at his back and shouted, didn't she even say thank you?
Lee didn't answer.
A few days later, Lee went to the biggest store in town and carefully selected an album and bought it. He also picked out a beautiful gift box and bought colored paper. Back home, Lee packaged the album like a dressed girl, and his sister saw it from afar, but didn't come over to ask him anything. Lee prepares to give it to Susan.
But when he walked to the door of Susan's classroom, Lee really lacked the courage. His face turned red to himself, and he felt his blood rush up, angry at his own incompetence, and at the same time he really didn't know what to do.
Susan walked out, snatched the gift from Lee's hand, and opened it without looking closely. The whole class gathered around, and Lee fled like a frightened rabbit to the sound of their laughter.
Back home that day, Lee started thinking about Susan, the kind of guy who turned over and wanted to turn over again and again before going to bed. Seeing that he was sleeping late, his mother asked with concern, "Do you miss your father?" I miss him too. Lee nodded. If my father had been here, how happy and comfortable I would have been now!
