Chapter 85: Mental Illness

At the request of Zheng Qimin and under the operation of Cao Degong, Lin Mu was transferred to a psychiatric hospital for monitoring and treatment in the name of mental illness. Located in a secluded valley on the western outskirts of Bangkok, this hospital is surrounded by lush forests and lush vegetation, making it a rare treasure of feng shui.

Cao Degong flattered, this is a hospital bought by a friend of mine, mainly to save some good people who were wronged by the police, I just hate not to think of this for the first time. Miss Zheng can rest assured that it will be absolutely safe and comfortable here.

Zheng Qimin had to thank him repeatedly. At the same time, she told Inspector Cao that her father had called and said that he would come to Bangkok to run errands in a few days and come to see her. If Inspector Cao has time, they can have a light meal together.

Cao Degong's eyes lit up, and he hurriedly bowed his head and thanked him.

Lin Mu watched from the sidelines and felt that he was really born in the wrong era.

Lin Mu couldn't help but think of some of the situations in Thailand during World War II that he had heard Lao Lin and his friends brag about when they were drinking and chatting.

Before the outbreak of World War II, Japan invaded the Korean Peninsula and China in order to realize its plan to build a "Greater East Asia Co-Prosperity Sphere". After the beginning of World War II, in order to solve the problem of shortage of strategic resources, Japan chose the strategy of invading Southeast Asia "southward". At the same time as the outbreak of the "Pearl Harbor Attack", Japan sent troops to attack the Philippines, and then Malaysia, Singapore and other places also fell one after another.

It can be said that during World War II, almost all of Asia was invaded by the Japanese.

However, there are two regional exceptions. The first was British India, where the Japanese army had launched an invasion but suffered a crushing defeat, and there was no follow-up after that.

The second region is Thailand. Thailand is a strategically important region with excellent transportation links in the heart of Southeast Asia. However, in World War II, Thailand was not only not attacked by Japan, but with the help of Japan, it obtained two territories in Myanmar, Jingtong and Malaybang. This matter starts with two important people.

The first man was called Rama V, who was the fifth king of the Chokri dynasty of Thailand. Rama V's rise to power coincided with a period of frenzied infiltration by European powers in Southeast Asia. At that time, almost all of Thailand's neighbors became colonies of European countries. And because of its weak national strength, Thailand has also signed unequal treaties with more than a dozen countries in just a few decades, and it looks like it will soon become a new colony.

After King Rama V came to power, he carried out drastic reforms in the fields of justice, finance, and education in Thailand, and completely abolished the land system and slavery. This reform was later also called "a turning point in Thai history".

However, while King Rama V has brought about dramatic changes in Thailand, it is clearly unrealistic to improve the country's power and compete with European countries in a few decades. Therefore, in order to avoid Thailand becoming a colony, Rama V adopted a very clever diplomatic strategy.

At that time, Vietnam and other countries to the east of Thailand were French colonies. India and other countries to the west of Thailand were British colonies. Thailand is just caught in the middle.

King Rama V first told the British that once Thailand was occupied by the French, then the British and French colonies would be directly adjacent to each other, and with the ambitions of the French, it was likely that they would launch an attack on India.

Later, Rama V told the French the same truth.

After reflection, both Britain and France found Rama V's argument very convincing. Subsequently, Britain and France quickly made contacts, and after deliberation, the two sides decided that no one should touch Thailand, and simply let Thailand become a strategic buffer zone.

In this way, Thailand was saved in the diplomatic strategy of King Rama V and succeeded in achieving a long-term stable peace.

King Rama V's foreign policy has had an impact on many Thai politicians, including World War II Prime Minister Luang Phibun Songkham. He is also the second important person.

Luang Phibun Sokhon officially became Prime Minister of Thailand in 1938. Within a month of taking office, Songkan had arrested a total of 40 political opponents. After that, 18 of them were executed through a trial in Congress.

In 1939, Songkhan officially changed the name of the country from "Siam" to "Thailand". Despite the opposition, Songkan still went his own way.

After the outbreak of World War II, Japan set its sights on Southeast Asian countries. The frequent presence of the Japanese navy on the coast of Thailand has made Thailand smell danger. Seeing Japan's bad intentions, Songkan quickly thought of Rama V's diplomatic strategy.

Song Kan first approached the British, saying that the Japanese were about to attack, which would definitely jeopardize British rule over India. Britain quickly responded, saying that it was willing to be Thailand's backing, and in the event of a war, it would definitely send troops to help. After that, Song Kan told the Japanese that if Thailand was captured, Britain would not give up, so he asked Japan not to attack Thailand and let Thailand continue to be a strategic buffer.

Song Kan's attempt to suppress Japan with Britain was obviously underestimating Japan's capabilities.

You must know that in order to plunder the strategic resources of Southeast Asia, Japan is not even afraid of the United States, and where can it be afraid of a Britain that is too busy to take care of itself?

On December 7, 1941, the Japanese Navy landed in Thailand, and the Thai defenders surrendered after a few minutes of "heroic counterattack". When Song Kan learned the news, he immediately ordered the entire army to give up resistance, and he was to negotiate with the Japanese.

On December 11, 1941, Songkan and the Japanese ambassador signed the Treaty of Alliance between Japan and Thailand. The treaty stipulates that Thailand will allow Japan to use domestic routes, and Japan will not attack Thailand.

A month later, Thailand officially declared war on Britain and the United States. This represents Thailand's official entry into the Axis bloc and an accomplice to fascism.

As for the little brother of Thailand, Japan still takes care of it quite a bit. In 1942, Japan helped Thailand conquer Keedong in Burma and Malay in northern Malaysia. The intimacy between Japan and Thailand has also reached its highest peak.

However, after 1943, Japan began to lose one after another on various battlefields. When Thailand discovered that Japan had no future, it secretly communicated with the United States and China. Thailand hopes to completely disassociate itself from Japan in order not to be liquidated.

After the war, Thailand righteously denounced Japan's crimes and said that they had been forced by Japan to join the Axis powers. And the Western countries did not intend to delve into the problem of Thailand, and even simply included Thailand in the ranks of the victorious countries.

In the end, Thailand, in the name of the victorious power, demanded tens of billions of yen in compensation from Japan.

Lin Mu thought, is this Inspector Cao a descendant of Song Kan or a descendant of Rama, can he be like a fish in water between the police and the suspect, with long sleeves and good dancing, left and right?
