Chapter 404, Burke Forsman

If they could, the defendant's lawyer would never resort to this defense strategy. He had to distinguish Orvis's identity from that of others.

He had to make it clear that the participants of the April 25 party had three identities: host, guest, and waiter.

The host is the initiator of the party. Guests are party participants. A waiter is a person who is hired by the host to serve the host and the guests so that they can have fun at the party.

You can do this kind of thing, but it's very unpleasant to say it naked and focus on it.

But the defendant's lawyer had to do so. Distinguishing identities is good for refuting the plaintiff's arguments, as well as the issue of Tronco's threats.

"If the party is set up by my client, my client should take care of every guest."

"But it is precisely because I am unwilling to do this, in order to relax at the party myself, that I hired a succubus banquet company to host the party."

"With the service of the succubus banquet company, my party does not need to continue to fulfill the 'obligations' that the traditional party host should fulfill, to take care of and serve the guests, and my party, the party host, can play with the guests."

"That's why I didn't notice that Orvis ran out." The defendant's lawyer explained, turned his head to look at Trunco, and said

"If you really want to ask her why she ran out like this, maybe you should go to the people at the Succubus Feast Company." Jason Bull frowned, and Trenco subconsciously looked at Burns Norton.

Of course, they also want to find people from the succubus, and it wouldn't be great if the employees who were at the party that day could testify in court.

But the succubus was not willing to testify at all. Moreover, there is a high probability that they didn't see what happened to Orvis at all.

Anyway, Tronco didn't believe Edward Norton would be bold enough to broadcast live in public. The defendant's lawyer finished his presentation and sat down.

He didn't rest, but wrote a note and handed it to the assistant next to him, who took the note and immediately rummaged through the pile of papers next to him.

Brooklyn asked if the parties had any questions, and after receiving a negative answer, it was the turn of the defense to present evidence.

"If your next witness is a character witness, I will immediately declare you defeated." Brooklyn warned

"Trust me, I'll do it." The defendant's lawyer nodded and spoke

"Your Excellency, we have applied for witness No. 78 to testify in court."

"Reason."

"Witness No. 78, one of the employees of the Succubus Feast Company, was responsible for serving drinks at the party held by my client on the night of April 25, and he can prove that my client had no idea what was going on at the party." Brooklyn looked at the defense attorney with Jason Bull, and then at Pence Norton.

"OK, let your witness 78 come to court after lunch." Brooklyn closed the indictment and announced

"Adjourn for the time being, continue after lunch." duangduang! Blowing the gavel, Brooklyn chatted with Bob while packing up his personal belongings and waiting for the computer to shut down.

As he chatted, Brooklyn would occasionally glance up at the courtroom as he got up and walked out. The defendant's lawyer did not argue, even though it was only 10:50.

He seems to have resigned himself to the fact that the Brooklyn judge was biased in favor of the plaintiffs. He silently lowered his head and sorted out his belongings, and after giving an explanation to his assistant, he came to Burns Norton and left with his boss.

His client, Edward Norton, followed with his head down. Trenco was busy socializing, and he was talking to the representatives of the nonprofit organization while packing his belongings, not paying attention to the movement in the dock.

Jason Bull remained seated, as if the trial was not over. He twisted his neck until he couldn't see Pence Norton, then he turned back and sat there in contemplation.

There is no doubt that as a courtroom that adjourns its hearings after 12 o'clock and starts lunch, it is somewhat unreasonable for Courtroom No. 9 to have an early lunch break before 11 o'clock today.

Jason looked up at the judge's bench just in time to see Brooklyn packing up and getting up to leave. Brooklyn pauses for a moment, and after a brief eye contact with Jason, whispers to Bob about scheduling issues, and leaves the courtroom.

His purpose in adjourning the trial was to give Jason Bull time to resolve the issue. The defendant's application for witness No. 78 to testify in court seems to be no problem, but in fact it is very problematic.

What caught Brooklyn's attention was the issue of witness identification. Witness No. 78 was an employee of the Succubus Feast Company.

The first to find the Succubus Feast was the ATC — at least as far as Brooklyn knows. Although the succubus was very uninterested in testifying in court, they eventually came.

In this case, it is only right for any employee of the Succubus to testify in court's favor for the plaintiff. Because they were witnesses to the party, they had seen Orvis, and they had seen the accused.

But the bartender No. 78 became a witness for the defendant! That alone is alarming enough.

In a lawsuit, no one will choose to apply for a witness to testify against him/herself, unless the witness has absolutely central, absolutely important, important enough information to turn the tables on the Jedi.

Either that, or the witness is going to talk nonsense. Mr. & Ms. Bartender No. 78, who was supposed to belong to the plaintiff, became a witness for the defendant.

Brooklyn didn't want to find out what was going on, he just wanted to give the plaintiffs a little time to sort out their own problems.

Back in the office, Brooklyn didn't get a break, and he was greeted not by a delicious lunch, but by a phone call between Burke and Anthony.

When Anthony found out he couldn't get through, he sent an email — he was in court at the time, and the phone was in Bob's custody — and the message was simple enough for Brooklyn to contact Burke for work.

So Brooklyn dialed Burke back. As always, the phone was quickly connected, and he was greeted by Burke's hearty laughter.

"Sounds like you're in a good mood." Laughter is contagious. Hearing Burke's laughter, Brooklyn couldn't help but smile.

"Sure, should I be in a bad mood?" Burke asked rhetorically. Brooklyn picked up a pen and signed the papers Bob handed over, saying

"No, you deserve it."

"Thank you." Burke said, then said

"Find someone you trust, Ray, or that David, or someone else, and let him communicate with my assistant, and I'll send him the work you're supposed to be responsible for."

"I've taken care of the division of work. Hope you have no opinion. Brooklyn thought about it, and then it dawned on him, he was talking about Harvard's work.

"What? You don't think the Secretary-General is just saying that you don't need to be in charge of the specifics, right? Burke misunderstood Brooklyn's silence and asked in surprise.

"I thought I just had to step up when I had to." Brooklyn Road. There was silence on the phone.

Brooklyn took advantage of this time to roughly finish reading the papers handed by Joseph Jr. and shook his head at him.

It was a holiday application. Joseph Jr. was right behind Bob, ready to get by. After being debunked, little Joseph was not embarrassed, he shrugged his shoulders

"Alright," he said, pulling out another document from below. It's a serious document, and it's about 'public utilities'.

Not long ago, they received a list of moot court invitations from New York University, which aims to build a real courtroom environment for law students at New York University, so that law students can experience a real courtroom.

This matter was originally Nelly's responsibility, but after receiving the invitation, Nelly directly put it aside and didn't care about it.

As a result, during the last conversation, Winston brought up the matter. A professor at New York University approached Winston.

Brooklyn came back and asked Nelly for the document, and after reading it, she was asked to take care of it. Now Nellie has chosen a judge, a law clerk and three intern slots.

Brooklyn glanced at it, crossed out Peter's name and replaced it with Emily Sherwood, and signed it underneath.

After sending Joseph Jr. away, a new email arrives in Brooklyn's mailbox. The mail came from Burke.

"I sent you the division of work, you can take a look." Burke said

"Brooklyn, I swear, I won't use those tactics against you." Brooklyn smiled and opened the email

"How's Professor John Manning?"

"Him?"

"John is good."

"Because of the decision made at the meeting yesterday afternoon, I am so busy now that I have to postpone the meeting with the speaker."

"How's he doing?" Brooklyn asked. Brooklyn wasn't sure what Burke said was true and what was false.

Getting along with Burke didn't feel even as easy as getting along with John Manning. At least he could tell what John Manning was saying and what was false, and he could predict John Manning's intentions.

Can Burke? He couldn't see through Burke at all. Burke was too mysterious, and it felt so powerful to him that he had to fight with a hundred thousand spirits.

At yesterday's meeting, Burke's god-like predictions, meticulous planning, calculations that took into account everyone's personalities and emotions, and his unhesitating vigor scared Brooklyn a little.

Brooklyn expects Burke to be a 'friend', but he is an adult who knows what is a fairy tale and what is reality, and he does not pin his hopes on vague expectations and vows.

John Manning vowed to make Harvard better. Mr. Former President also swore that laundry detergent was a weapon of mass destruction.

"I went to the hospital last night." Speaking of John Manning's physical health, Burke's voice was a lot lower

"He's not breathing."

"Just got home from the hospital this morning."

"I received your email, I'll call you after reading it." As he spoke, Brooklyn was about to hang up.

"Wait."

"Brooklyn." Burke's voice was much more solemn

"To get Harvard on the right track, or even better, we need to work together."

"I know you don't trust me and think I've gone too far with John Manning."

"But he placed an order on [Patriot] to kill me, you know?"

"We've been friends since we were in school, and because I didn't report all the news to him, because of my negligence, he wanted to kill me."

"Was it really a momentary oversight?" Brooklyn asked. Seeing that Burke didn't speak, Brooklyn continued

"Burke, I don't want to know your past with Mr. John Manning, nor do I want to know your past with Lyleigh Crewe, maybe I used to want to know, but now I don't."

"I'm also not going to give an opinion on what you did to John Manning yesterday because I benefited from that as well."

"Let's be honest, Burke, what the hell do you want to do?" As he spoke, Brooklyn had come out of his office and into the hallway.

"You know there's no place for you at Harvard."

"After this transition period, John Manning's supporters will stand up against you. And whether it's Anthony or me, or whatever, if you want to get these people's support, you have to join them in opposing you. ”

"So, Burke, what exactly do you want?"

"Why go to such a thankless point as to kick John Manning out?" After the initial excitement, Brooklyn woke up from the great sense of accomplishment and the power that comes with power, and immediately realized something.

No matter how rosy the results may seem now, and no matter how much John Manning supported Anthony Kennedy, those die-hard John Manning loyalists were extremely hostile to Burke as the initiator.

This crack cannot be bridged. If you want Harvard to become normal, your successor must have their support, and the easiest and most effective way to get their support is to expel Burke!

So the question is, did Burke have no choice at that time? Why did he get rid of John Manning?

And then there's the same accurate ticket type that Burke predicted. John Manrather is Harvard's anchor!

There were so many people against him in the first vote? John Manning is already so unpopular?

This kind of John Manning does not feel like a needle in the sea to Brooklyn, but a bit like the old king who has been stripped of power.

And if John Manning is really the dumb old king who has been stripped of power, then who is the minister who has overthrown him?

The answer seems to be on the horizon. Burke Forsman! The reason why there were so many opponents of John Manning in the first round was because Burke Forsman already had a large number of supporters!

He is not afraid of being expelled by the new Speaker after the transition period has passed, and he is not afraid of the rejection of John Manning's die-hard supporters, because those John Manning's die-hard supporters are actually Burke Forsman's supporters!

John Manning's image of the Needle of the Sea is not actually the same as the real situation! It was Burke Forsman who instructed his supporters to pretend to support John Manning and became John Manning's hardcore.

It was Burke Forsman who deliberately created the image of John Manning and Harvard's anchor needle. He hides behind John Manning, like a brain-eating bug, controlling John Manning.

Burke Forsman!
