Chapter 14: The Phantom of the Forest
"Hello, sir!"
The old woman sat down slowly with her daughter's support before Aaron sat down.
"Ma'am, that's right, I was sent by Mr. Holmes, and I want to know a little more about the disappearance of Mr. Marcus Morris!"
"Okay, I'll know everything, as long as you get Marco back!" The old woman was a little excited, and coughed incessantly. The daughter, who was standing nearby, hurriedly patted her on the back.
Then the old woman began to tell the story slowly.
Marcus Morris, a former sergeant in the 8th Division of the Royal Marines of the United Kingdom, was transferred home after several overseas expeditions, and the exhausted 8th Division was transferred back home.
After marriage, they had three children together, the wife's family is a famous local family, and Marcus also became the security director of a large group after being discharged from the army, and the family life is also very rich, but what the wife didn't expect was that Marcus also had PTSD, that is, post-traumatic stress disorder, anxiety, mania, that time made the two tired, but fortunately, the military is not a hands-off shopkeeper, retired veterans like Marcus can enjoy free treatment and psychological counseling in military hospitals, Then Marcus Morris's symptoms were greatly relieved, and then not long ago, after Marcus attended a comrade-in-arms gathering, everything changed.
"My father had nightmares that night, yelled and almost injured my mother!"
"He had a pistol under his pillow, and then he sat up and shot at the wall, and then when I woke up, he pointed the gun at me again and pulled the trigger, but luckily he had finished firing at the time, otherwise he would have ......" said this, and the old woman couldn't help but cry.
"May I ask, was the battle in which Marcus Morris fought so badly?"
"I don't know, but Marcus said he lost half of his people......"
"Did he say anything that night?"
"I didn't pay attention, I was frightened, and then he dropped the gun, hugged me, cried for a long time, and when I woke up again the next morning, Marco was gone!"
"I see, excuse me!" Aaron, who had learned something, said goodbye to the old woman and left the house.
"What now?" Looking at the time, Aaron, who noticed that it was almost noon, decided to go to the town for lunch.
"Eat, eat, where!" After searching the street for a long time, Aaron finally came across an old restaurant that looked very old.
"Welcome!" As soon as he entered, an old man with gray hair and a white beard stepped forward to take Aaron's coat and led him to his seat.
"Want something, sir?"
"Uh, let's have an aperitif first, are there any specialties?"
"Today's main course is venison and beef, and the side dishes are cod, as well as lamb tripe and salmon!"
"I want a venison, and lamb tripe, and a Scottish fish soup! Another mashed hash browns and black pudding! ”
"Okay!"
After a while, the old man first brought a glass of pale yellow and bubbling liquid, and then held an iron bucket with a bottle of mineral water soaked in ice.
"Please use it slowly!"
"Thank you!"
After a small sip of wine, Aaron leaned back in his chair and looked at the layout of the store, although it was not yet noon, the restaurant was already more than half full, and a steady stream of customers were entering.
"Wow, this restaurant is awesome!" A yellow-haired, bespectacled woman to Aaron's right said to her friend as she cut her own chop.
"Yes, you know, this is a must-visit restaurant for a visit to Sharffolk County, and it's all said on the travel website!"
"It's good, I'm going to eat my fill, and then I'll fall headlong into bed and sleep for the day!"
"Eat and sleep, sleep and eat, are you a pig?"
"That's it, let's go camping and barbecue in the forest park in the afternoon!"
"Okay, okay!"
"Speaking of the forest park, did you know that, according to the innkeeper, the forest seems to be infested with wild people lately!"
"Really, tell me about it!"
"It is said that someone saw a green figure shaking in the forest when he was camping, and then he thought it was something, so he went over to look, and then he saw a wild man, carrying a deer and walking, and when he arrived at a place, the wild man was eating raw meat and drinking deer blood!"
"Wow, that's amazing!"
"Let's go find the wildlings!"
"You're crazy, eat quickly!"
Listening to the smiling tourists next to him, Aaron shook his head and waved to the waiter.
"Sir, what do you need help with?"
"I want to ask, where is the police station?"
"Are you having a hard time?"
"No, I'm here to take care of things!" Aaron flashed the ID on his waist.
"The police station is on the side of the Lufthansa Hospital and the Sharffolk Senior High School, and the tallest building is the Lufthansa Hospital! If you need it, we can help you order a car! ”
"No, I'll just walk over!"
After a while, the tender and juicy roasted venison and lamb tripe stew was served, and after eating a bite of the venison, Aaron only felt that his taste buds were about to explode, the salty sauce and gravy wrapped the steak in the meat, the fragrance of mint and the spice of the basil leaves removed the fishy smell of the venison, and then paired with the stewed soft side dishes, the vegetables wrapped in the tripe stew absorbed enough soup, and although the lamb tripe was stewed, it was still strong.
The milky white fish soup tastes endless, every bone of the fish is removed, and it melts in your mouth, as well as the crispy mashed potato patties and the black pudding that tastes fishy, and after all the food is settled, Aaron reaches out of his wallet.
"Hello, check out!"
After eating and drinking, Aaron walked out of the hotel and strode towards the police station.
The Sheriff of Sharffolk County is fifty-six and is due to retire in three months, so he is now praying that nothing will go wrong in the last three months of his term, so when Aaron comes to the door, the sheriff's face is not very good.
"You're here for Marcus' case?"
"Yes, Sheriff Randy, I'm a trainee detective!" Instead of pulling out his night watchman ID, Aaron pulled out his business card from the Baker Street office.
Looking at Aaron's business card, the sheriff's eyes changed suddenly, and the words that he was about to refuse changed.
"This Marcus, who is older than me, why is this kind of thing happening!" Sheriff Randy stroked his beard and made a phone call, and a few moments later, a cop walked in with Marcus' file.
"This is his file, but you can only look at it here!"
"Of course, thank you, Sheriff!"
"No thanks, you're so much more polite than that guy!"
