Chapter Twenty-Eight: The Western Town of Montrose
Early the next morning.
Chen Jianqiu walked out of the hotel door and stretched.
Under the light of the rising sun, he saw the whole picture of the town, and if it was daylight when he came yesterday, most of them would not have chosen to enter this hotel.
It was a deserted place, the house was long uninhabited, and a few ravens perched on the roof, making a few strange noises.
Chen Jianqiu guessed that they were mostly attracted by the stack of corpses behind the stable.
They cleaned up all night yesterday before throwing all the corpses outside, as for the pungent smell of blood all over the house, Chen Jianqiu's method was:
Open windows for ventilation.
So the howls of wolves and the cries of unknown predators sounded outside the inn all night, and Mr. Browning knocked on the door of Chen Jianqiu's room in the middle of the night, and curled up in a corner for the night.
"What about our horses?" Browning asked Chen Jianqiu tremblingly.
Chen Jianqiu didn't even bother to turn it over: "The stable door is closed, even if one or two sneak in, the black radish will clean them up." ”
"Black radish? What is Black Radish? ”
Browning couldn't understand the three people in the room anymore, and he wanted to ask something, but there was already a thunderous snoring here.
Chen Jianqiu was still looking at the raven with interest, and the bird had already walked out of the door carrying a corpse.
It's that Mexican.
They had stopped the Mexican's bleeding yesterday and smeared some herbs, and Sean tied him up and placed him in a room on the second floor, intending to wait for him to wake up and see if he could ask for something useful.
But when Asuka went to check on it the next day, he found that the Mexicans had lost their breath.
Chen Jianqiu took the handle and carried the corpses to the back of the stables together, only to find that the animals last night should not have found nothing, and some of the corpses were missing some meat.
Asuka checked it, it seemed to be the coyote's handiwork, they were different from the North American gray wolf, they didn't mind eating carrion, but it was July, there was no heavy snow to cover the mountain, and the coyotes would not face the dilemma of food shortage, so at least the corpses did not appear to be torn apart.
Chen Jianqiu found two shovels from the hotel, dug a pit with Asuka and buried the body.
Dust to dust, dust to dust.
By the time the two of them returned to the hotel, Sean had already prepared the stew, and the four of them packed up their things and prepared to set off after eating.
Unable to do anything to help, Browning opened the door of the stable, ready to take his horse out and set the wagon.
However, when he opened the door, a dark shadow suddenly flashed, causing him to take two steps back and sit on the ground.
A black, solid-colored horse burst through the door, darting past him, galloping through the empty town.
He looked into the stable, where there were two wolf carcasses, one in the corner and the other by the door, both of which had been kicked out of their stomachs.
The two wolves must have slipped into the stable through the vent, somehow bumped into the black radish that jumped out of the stall, and were brutally murdered, oh no, tragic poisonous hooves.
There were scratches on the door of the stable, and it looked like the wolf at the door must have been in great pain before he died.
"Black radish!" Chen Jianqiu's voice echoed through the town.
The black radish, which was still spreading joy, slowed down in an instant as if it had been struck by lightning, and honestly returned to the front of the hotel.
Chen Jianqiu stepped forward and gently patted the neck of the black radish and stroked its mane.
The black radish did not dare to move in the slightest.
Asuka looked stupid: "What did you do to it?" ”
Chen Jianqiu's face was "kind": "Didn't I say it before, I had a friendly exchange before, and I was still a child." ”
Browning's legs finally regained sensation. He staggered over to the two pack horses.
The pack horse looked sick and staggering.
"Brinton was on the hay last night." Chen Jianqiu said, he picked the horse chew from the black radish's mouth.
Sure enough, the two pack horses took a few steps out of the stall, and then their legs went limp, and they fell to their knees, unable to move any longer.
"How much cargo are you loaded on?" Sean asked.
With a bitter face, Browning lifted the wooden boxes behind the carriage, which were filled with brand-new Browning rifles.
"Good boy, is your business at the Montrose gun shop so good?" Sean smacked.
"Alright, stop talking nonsense, go get Blind and their horses over." Chen Jianqiu spoke, "It's a waste to stay here." ”
After the horses were tidied up, they finally set off again.
It's not too far from the abandoned gravel town to Montrose, but it's not close, estimated to be about 150 miles according to the distance marked on the map, and the trail is mountainous.
Browning's two new horses were not pack horses in the first place, and Browning's temporary cameo as a groom was already a bit difficult, which led to some uphill climbs, the two horses began to slack off, and finally refused to climb any further.
The black radish has its own way, he hissed in front of him, and took Chen Jianqiu around the car twice, leaving behind a circle of male hormones and then raised his hooves.
The two horses, not knowing whether they were stimulated or something, moved forward again.
Chen Jianqiu sometimes really feels that the black radish has become fine.
Only then did he realize that both horses were mares.
The rest of the road was smooth, with no bandits, no bounty hunters, no rain and strong winds.
The wind and the sun, the years are quiet.
Within a few days, they arrived safely in Montrose.
In 1881, Montrose was not yet officially established, and the town was nestled in a beautiful and peaceful grassland between the mountains, with a snow-capped mountain not far away connecting the blue sky. On the other side of the mountain is the famous Gandison Black Canyon. Cowboys drive their sheep across muddy dirt roads with sage in their mouths, and young women wash and dry their clothes.
The people of the town are calm but busy, except for one person.
The young man was sitting boredly on the fence at the entrance of the town and looking out at the horizon until three horses and a carriage appeared there.
"Boss! Boss! The young man waved his arms excitedly.
"Jerry, damn it, what are you doing here? Lost in the store? Browning was swearing, but he couldn't hide the happiness on his face.
"Boss, if you don't have a day, I won't be able to settle down for a day."
The man was so sweet-mouthed that he jumped into the carriage, took the reins, and drove the carriage into town.
Chen Jianqiu and the three followed.
"Hey, man, are you sure you can do business here?" Sean looked at the peaceful appearance of the town.
Browning was a little embarrassed, he was also here for the first time, and God knows why his father would open a branch in such a calm place.
The carriage stopped at the door of the "Browning Gun Shop".
The man opened the door, then turned to unload the cargo, while Browning accompanied the three into the gun shop.
There was a counter in the shop, and behind the counter there was a whole wall of gun cabinets, which were filled with all kinds of firearms, most of which were made by the Browning family, and a few were from Winchester, Remington and Colt.
"Take whatever gun you like." Browning came out of the back room with a piece of paper, a pen and a seal.
Asuka and Sean each took a Winchester lever carbine, and each chose a revolver made in the Browning factory, and the guy who came back from the shipment gave them holsters and cartridge belts.
Chen Jianqiu was not in a hurry, he swept the gun cabinet, but he was not satisfied.
But his eyes fell on another gun in the corner of the gun cabinet.
This gun looks a little special.
