Chapter 430: The Barber
As Downey said this, Hanif pulled out a cigarette and lit it.
He smoked a cigarette and observed the movement of the people in the room.
With the exception of Hawley, the reaction of the others was not much different.
They were all listening intently to Hawley.
"Didn't he say anything?"
There's something strange about Hawley.
In order to avoid suspicion, after leaving Shiquan Town, he did not see Chen Jianqiu again.
If the California union leader and the chairman of the board of directors of the Pacific Railroad are seen drinking coffee together, then the fate of his Hawley can be compared to Dennis who stayed in St. Elizabeth.
But now Chen Jianqiu took the initiative to ask him out at this juncture of the strike, what does it mean?
He glanced at the three people standing at the table.
These three undercover agents didn't know each other, nor did they know the existence of the boss behind the scenes.
The only time Chen Jianqiu made a public appearance at the California Border Detective Agency, he led a group of people to the logging camp to avenge Huang Qingyun.
This was done in such a secret that it has not been revealed until now, as if nothing had happened.
But now that he was stabbed by the stunned man in front of him, is this an admit? Or is it better not to admit it?
I couldn't figure it out, so he didn't report Chen Jianqiu's name.
Donnie was stunned by Hawley's question, and then looked at Hanif who was smoking a cigarette and peeking at everyone.
"What do you think I'm doing? You are now the person in charge, you can say what you want! Hanif took a drag on his cigarette and said angrily.
"He said he would meet tomorrow night at the pier outside 63 Hyde Street around 8 p.m." Donnie said aloud in the room.
The word is round!
The time and place are clearly explained and extremely accurate.
Hawley couldn't help but rub his face.
He didn't know what to say.
He glanced at Hanif, who was standing in the doorway smoking, and saw that he had his head bowed, holding a cigarette in one hand, and pinching his brow with the thumb and forefinger of the other.
Donnie stood in place, he didn't expect his words to make the two seniors so blind, so he had to be stunned on the spot.
"Let's go, let's go." Hanif walked over and grabbed Donnie's arm, urging.
Donnie is dragged out of the house by Hanif.
But they did not go far, but stayed in an apartment near the yard until the evening.
This apartment was a secret stronghold of the Border Detective Agency, and was originally rented to deal with special situations that occurred in the headquarters of the Knights of Labor.
"Isn't it fun to be in charge for half a day?" Hanif sat down on the couch in his apartment, taking off his boots and looking at Donnie with a smile.
Donnie picked at his fingers, hesitating to sit down.
"It's not fun at all, it feels, it's embarrassing," he said honestly.
"I think you're enjoying it." Hanif had some boots in his hand and looked around for something.
This scene is very familiar to Donnie, he reflexively pulls a gray cloth from his clothes, half-kneels in front of Hanif, picks up his boots and prepares to wipe them.
However, Hanif did not give him this opportunity.
His boots went to the other hand.
"Eh, don't, you're my boss now, how can I let you shine my shoes!" Hanif waved his hand and said in a strange manner.
Then, the shoe-shine cloth was literally stuffed into his hand.
Donnie stood up and said to Hanif very seriously:
"Master, I thought about it, you call me boss in front of others, and I still call you master behind my back, let's talk about it."
Hanif had a shoe-shine cloth in his hand, and finally realized what it felt like to have nothing to say in the room in the morning.
"Knock, knock."
There was a knock on the door.
In a special percussion rhythm.
Outside the door are the people of the Border Detective Agency.
Hanif was just about to ask Donnie to open the door.
But he thought about it for a moment, quickly put on his shoes, trotted to the door and opened it.
Several detectives in uniform walked in.
Hanif put his arm around Donnie's shoulders and pinned him down on the couch where he was sitting, and then stood behind Donnie himself.
The detectives hadn't adapted to the situation in front of them for a while.
In the end, it was Hanif who opened the siege for them:
"What about those three people?"
"Duncan and Gordon went to the docks and the shipyard respectively after the meeting, as planned, and were supposed to arrange the strike; Bowen was the only one in the yard and didn't go anywhere. ”
Hanif nodded, "Well, you guys keep staring!" ”
He lowered his head and looked at the restless Donnie, "You think I'm right, right?" Donnie Boss? ”
"Uh, yes, that's right." Downey said.
Meanwhile, at a barbershop two blocks away from this apartment.
The only remaining legendary detective of Pinkerton's "Three Heroes of the West" Heilman changed into a white coat.
He wears a dark red tie around his chest, holds a pair of scissors in his hand, and another pair of scissors in his chest pocket.
And in the chair in front of him, sat a man.
"Tomorrow at 8 p.m.? The pier at 63 Hyde Street? Heilman used scissors to trim the man's hair on the side, and his mouth was talking.
"Yes, Donnie and Hanif came to inform them, they said that the person who wanted to meet with Holly was the 'boss', but according to my judgment, it is most likely Chen Jianqiu." The man does not squint and looks in the mirror.
From the outside of the window, the two men looked like a normal exchange between a barber and a customer.
"Hmm." Heilmann's movements did not stop, but he fell into thought.
"Duncan and Bowen are also undercover agents for the Border Detective Agency, so it's no wonder I always feel that something is wrong." The man continued.
"Whether it is Chen Jianqiu or not, Hawley and the Border Detective Agency have collusion, and they can't escape." Heilman pulled out another pair of scissors from his coat pocket, "You don't have to worry about tomorrow night, I'll take care of it." ”
"Brannan sold us, so be careful." Heilman wiped the scissors with a cloth on the back of his chair, "It's risky to come out like today." ”
"Hmph, if you weren't in a hurry to find evidence, I wouldn't have come to you." The man snorted coldly, "But they haven't withdrawn the three of us yet, which means that they haven't suspected us yet." ”
Heilman didn't speak.
The man scratched the shredded hair on his neck.
"No wonder, I said how Hanif was killed."
"Killed? Isn't that what he is going to preach today? Heilman asked, confused.
"I've been demoted, and today I'm leading a young man I've never seen before, no, no, it's just a hairy kid."
Thinking of this, the man suddenly laughed.
"I guess it's a substitute for Hanif's position, and I want to laugh when I think of Hanif's bad luck today."
"Are you saying that Hanif was masturbated by Chen Jianqiu because of the undercover matter, and now he is being ridden on the head by a hairy child?" Heilman suddenly wanted to laugh a little too.
As the number one rival on the surface, the biggest obstacle to Pinkerton Detective Agency's return to California.
From the very beginning of his stay in the mountains, Heilman conducted an in-depth study of Hanif.
This man is experienced and thoughtful, but very greedy for money.
"Or else? I looked at him like that, and his face was full of disbelief. The man said.
Heilman nodded.
In his heart, he had a new plan.
Men's hair is not as complex as women's, and it is trimmed quickly.
Heilman unfastened the scarf that was tied to the back of the man's neck.
"Look, okay?" He said to the man as he expertly shook the shredded hair on the cloth.
The man looked in the mirror, in a somewhat mocking tone.
"Heilman, if you don't work as a detective, must be a very good barber."
"Whether I'm a detective or not, it's both. Also, I'm a doctor, the kind that specializes in surgery. Heilman patted his beard and said calmly.
He is a legend of the Pinkerton Detective Agency, and as long as he is a junior detective of Pinkerton, he will be very respected.
But now, he doesn't care too much.
As the man pays, Heilman gives him one last words:
"Remember, tonight, don't act rashly, leave the matter to me, just do it!"
