Chapter 49: Perception and Decision
Nine o'clock in the evening.
78 Riverbend Avenue, 3rd floor.
After a busy day, Eugene returned home and sat at his desk rubbing his temples to relieve fatigue.
Then, he wandered.
It didn't take long for him to come back to his senses, only to see a note suddenly appear out of thin air on his desk.
He looked at it and saw that there was only one sentence on it:
"Someone asked me to kill you."
In an instant, he felt that he was wrapped in a huge sense of fear, and even his heart seemed to skip a beat.
"I'm going to die!"
It was the only thought that came to his mind at that moment.
He knew very well in his heart that if he could unconsciously put the note on the table in front of him, it would only be easier to kill him.
It took a while for Eugene to recover from his stupor.
He subconsciously touched his neck and chest, breathing a sigh of relief and wondering, "Why haven't I died yet?" ”
He subconsciously looked at the note again:
"You have a choice: die, or disappear."
"Write your answer."
Eugene did not feel fear again this time, but developed an extremely strong anger.
He violently pulled open the drawer on the right, pulled out a brass-colored revolver from it, and stood up to search the room.
He searched round and round, but found nothing.
When he returned to his desk, he found another line on the note: "The opportunities are not limitless. ”
"Who?!"
"You give me ......"
Eugene was only halfway through his angry shouting, and he fell into a state of dementia again.
When he came back to his senses, he found that a large piece of the clothes on his chest had been cut off, and there was even a shallow blood mark!
Now he panicked again, "Don't kill me!" ”
"Who invited you? I'm out double, no, five! ”
However, the room was silent, and there was no response.
Eugene walked around the room a few times in a distraught manner, and then he realized that he was running away.
Keeping an eye on his surroundings, he strode to the door that led to the staircase.
Then, he wandered again.
When he came back to his senses, he found himself back at his desk, and the note had one more line of handwriting.
There was also one more bloody handprint.
"One last chance!"
After seeing the bloody handprint, Eugene subconsciously looked at his right hand.
Sure enough, it was his own handprint!
Eugene felt a slight weakness in his legs.
He'd never encountered such a weird thing before, and he hadn't even heard of it, was this a ghost? Or are you having a nightmare?
His life mattered, he didn't dare to think about it anymore, for fear that he would lose his mind again inexplicably......
He was afraid that after losing his mind this time, he would not wake up again.
He said, "I want to live, don't kill me." He grabbed the pen on the table and wrote his answer on a slip of paper.
After another period of distraction, Eugene woke up to find an extra paragraph on the note:
"Leave Beckland quietly, now!"
The look on Eugene's face changed for a moment, and finally, he still succumbed to the shadow of death, found the hidden cash and belongings from several hidden places in the room, and turned to go downstairs.
This time, he made it to the first floor smoothly.
Eugene saw the two gang brothers at the door, a flash of joy flashed on his face, and he walked over quickly, wanting to reveal the news to them.
However, attempts were in vain.
He didn't even have a chance to speak, he walked away from them in a state of distraction.
Only then did Eugene know that the hidden ghost was still following him.
He did not dare to resist in the open, and honestly walked to the nearest pier, intending to get rid of this controlled state by means of a sampan, and then make a decision.
Soon, the pier arrived.
After getting closer, Eugene realized that this time he had not lost his mind, but the younger brother who stayed at the dock had lost his mind.
He shouted a few times, and even slapped the other party, but it didn't work.
The terrain on the shore was flat, and Eugene looked around and didn't find any hiding place, but the state of the younger brother showed that the ghost was clearly still nearby.
"Damn, how did I get into such a powerful monster? Is he still human? ”
Eugene secretly slandered himself, but his face did not show anything.
He looked around again, but still didn't notice it, so he jumped onto a docked sampan and pushed it off the shore with some rusty movements.
……
The surface of the Tasok River, on a sampan.
Eugene hadn't sensed the presence of the ghost for a long time, so he gradually put his mind at ease, and finally suddenly cursed.
"Fuck, you're going to kill me again, monster!"
He was mindful when he jumped on the sampan, deliberately making the boat shake so hard that he could probably feel it if the monster followed it.
Apparently, he now feels safe.
But how is this possible?
Eugene loses his mind again after yelling, and when he comes back to his senses, he finds that the package containing his belongings has been opened.
When he checked, he found that all the bearer cheques and cash were missing, which was almost half of his fortune!
Eugene was angry and afraid.
Where could he hide such a small sampan? Is it really a ghost? But ghosts also need gold pounds?
That's right, leave Beckland!
Eugene suddenly remembered the ghost's request, he had to leave Beckland.
He hurriedly adjusted the direction of the sampan, and went down the Tasok River, gradually moving away from Beckland.
……
Overnight, the sampan rafted Eugene and Varina to the confluence of the Sturford and Tassok rivers.
Dawn was not long after.
Varina took control of Eugene again, knocked him unconscious, took control of the sampan to the shore, and went ashore to leave, leaving him to lie in the sampan and continue adrift.
……
White Cliff Town, located further south of the Beckland Bridge, is a small town.
The Sterford River flows through the town and makes a bend before joining the Tassok River, its last tributary before it flows into the sea.
At seven o'clock in the morning, Varina arrived in the town of White Cliffs.
On the platform of the steam train station, Varina is waiting for the first train to Beckland, with a ticket in hand.
Woo!
With a high-pitched, long whistle, the tall monster-like steel train came to a halt beside the platform with a hint of sparkling smoke.
Varina smiled faintly and boarded the train.
He took a big risk and tossed all night, naturally not just to spare Eugene's life.
Letting go of Eugene is just the appearance, and the inner root lies in the insights he has gotten, or rather, another code of play-
"The 'Assassins' own the blade, not the blade."
He is a man with his own thoughts and judgments, not a knife at his disposal. He has a reason and must be able to decide for himself who to kill and who to spare.
This time, he decides to spare Eugene and kill the president.
So, the task isn't over yet.
