Chapter 533: Winter is coming
In the early hours of August 9 this year, Germany opened the war with an armed invasion of the Republic of Bohemia. Suddenly, the world was in an uproar, and Hitler claimed: this was only a punitive attack, and as long as the Sudetenland was recovered, which should belong to the German people, the German Reich would withdraw its troops.
Of course, everyone knows that politicians' words are like farting, and those who believe are fools. The mustache is also a politician, so naturally no one believes his words. With Erdezi's urine, will you still spit out what you eat in your mouth?
Just when everyone was still talking about the League of Nations, something happened on the Nordic side. Less than half a month after the German invasion of Bohemia, on August 22, the Soviet Union also launched a high-profile invasion of Finland. As a result, the League of Nations began to stir up again, and the Entente led by Britain and France and the Western Treaty led by the United States demanded that the Soviet Union must immediately withdraw from Finland. The Chinese-led People's Revolutionary League also agreed to condemn the Soviet Union and demanded that they immediately stop their aggression against Finland.
According to the Western media, this is the aggression of two totalitarian evil states against innocent countries. The UPC said something similar, but the subject was replaced by the phrase "Soviet revisionist bloc".
However, this did not work. Strictly speaking, no matter what era it is, the cannons of words such as condemnation are useless for the big hooligans. The representatives of Germany and the USSR were unmoved by the complaints of the representatives of Bohemia and Finland in the League of Nations, pretending not to hear them. The representatives of the Soviet Union, in the opposite direction, also accused Finland of threatening the Soviets. The German delegates, on the other hand, accused Bohemia of mistreating the Germans in the Sudetenland, and this kind of rhetoric was not finished as soon as it came.
Of course, Sood's accusations are obviously not accepted by everyone, and their evidence is too pale to be convincing at all. However, the Soviet-German deputies put on a face like "whether you believe it or not, I believe it anyway" and insisted that "we are being bullied, we are just defending ourselves."
Representatives of Bohemia and Finland initiated a bill in the League of Nations to impose sanctions on the Soviet Union and Germany, but this proposal did not pass, and Germany simply used its veto power. In the League of Nations to sue the big hooligans, this is a typical "who is kneeling in the hall, why do you sue the official?". Although the Soviet Union was not one of the P8, they could not use their veto power, but they could not stand Germany and their gang. So this time the sanctions case in the League of Nations ended in nothing. It's not that Germany likes the Soviet Union, they just want to find one more top tank.
Then, Britain and France, seeing that they could not help Germany as a permanent member of the Security Council, focused their spearheads on the non-permanent Soviet Union, and demanded that the Soviet Union must withdraw from Finland immediately, otherwise the Soviet Union would be expelled from the League of Nations. The representatives of the USSR strongly refused.
Then the representatives of China and the United States came out to play a round and said that everyone should not quarrel and speak slowly. The representative of the United States categorically opposed the expulsion of the USSR, claiming that such a large Eastern European power as the USSR was unthinkable if it were not in the League of Nations, and that the affairs of Eastern Europe could not leave the USSR. It's not that the United States likes the Soviet Union much, and if the Soviet Union is no longer in the League of Nations, wouldn't it be a lot of fun. The idea of expelling the Soviet Union from Britain and France also collapsed under the strong opposition of the United States and the interference of Germany.
Anyway, the League of Nations has been arguing for months, but to no avail, and Bohemia and Finland continue to be beaten.
There was really nothing to see on the Bohemian side, and their organized resistance lasted only a little more than a month under the crush of German tanks, and the country fell to its knees. On 16 September, Prague fell. By the end of September, all of Bohemia was occupied by Germany.
Subsequently, the mustache forced Bohemia to cede all of the Sudetenland to Germany, and then divided Bohemia in two, establishing the Republic of Bohemia and Moravia in the Czech region, and the Slovak Republic in the Slovak region, both of which were puppet states under German protection.
Former Bohemian President Edward Benes fled to England to organize a government-in-exile. The Bohemian Public Enterprise, another major force in Bohemian politics, established the Central National Revolutionary Committee to carry out a guerrilla resistance movement in the country.
The German invasion was based on the question of the Germans in the Sudetenland, but this was only one of the reasons, and there were two other important factors. The first was the rapid development of the power of the Bohemian Communist, which caused concern to the mustache. If you look at the map, you can see that Bohemia is right next to the elite of Germany, and the mustache is worried that the Soviet Union will take advantage of this to intervene in Bohemia, in which case, Germany will be more passive, so he strikes first.
The second factor is that Bohemia itself is guilty. Before the war, Bohemia was the sixth largest industrial country in Europe and the ninth largest industrial country in the world, after China, the United States, Germany (after the merger of Germany and Austria), the Soviet Union, the United Kingdom, France, Japan, Italy, and higher than Spain and Sweden. Bohemia has a very developed industry, mainly in the production of machine tools, automobiles, and machine-building industries such as power, chemical and metallurgical equipment, as well as steel, chemicals, textiles, food, wood processing, etc., and its industrial strength is completely disproportionate to its small size.
Originally, too, because the industry in Bohemia was not made by themselves, it was all the legacy of Austria-Hungary. As to why Austria-Hungary built an important industrial area here, that is another question. But now it is the case, Bohemia inherited almost seventy percent of the industrial capacity of the former Austro-Hungarian Empire, especially heavy industry, which is basically mostly here.
We all know that the mustache is not actually a German, he is Austrian. Needless to say, what feelings he will have for a boy like Bohemia. The mustache has said many times that many of the industries of Skoda and Bohemia belong to the German people. Therefore, in public and private, he will not let go of the fat of Bohemia.
Bohemia is only about 110,000 square kilometers in size, and because there is no Treaty of Trianon on the plane, and Hungary has not ceded land to them, their territory is less than that of the original plane. The country's population is about 9.5 million, which is a small country in Europe.
In addition, although their industrial strength is not weak, the army construction is very problematic, because their previous government thought that they could rest assured after declaring permanent neutrality, and on the other hand, they were also worried about irritating Germany, a strong neighbor, so their army has been maintained at a very low level. After the German invasion, there was no time to organize reserves, and the small territory lacked sufficient depth, so it fell as soon as it was pushed.
The Germans have made a lot of money this time, and with the industrial capacity of Bohemia, Germany's industrial strength has risen significantly.

However, on the other hand, the Soviet Union hit a nail in the coffin.
The bearded man originally thought that Finland was a war scumbag, and in the face of the powerful Soviet Red Army, it was vulnerable. It was not that the people below did not remind him, even his most trusted Prenyakov mentioned it, but the conceited Comrade Stalin did not listen to it at all, and he felt that these people overestimated Finland.
But as soon as the fight began, Stalin found himself in the pit. This Finland looks like a very good bully, but it can't be repaired firmly by other people's turtle shells.
The Soviet-Finnish border stretches for nearly 1,500 kilometers, and the terrain here is complex and the traffic conditions are extremely poor, making it a special battlefield that is easy to defend and difficult to attack, which is conducive to the operation of the Finnish army's lightly armed small troops, and is not conducive to the operation of the Soviet Red Army's heavy and large troops.
The Soviet-Finnish border is sparsely populated, densely forested, crisscrossed by lakes, and inaccessible. However, there is a well-developed road network in the deep reaches of Finland, and there are several railways running parallel to the border, which makes it easy to transport goods and maneuver troops. The Karelia region on the Soviet side was an uninhabited desert, and from Leningrad to Murmansk there was only one railway parallel to the border and two branch lines to the border.
Most of the border is difficult to deploy, with the exception of the Karelian Isthmus, which is better connected by a single-track railway and a stone road to northwestern Finland. Therefore, this is the main battlefield of the main battle of the two sides. What the Soviets wanted, the Finns naturally wanted. So there's a very strong line of defense here -- the Mannerheim Line.
This Mannerheim Line was an artificial barrier on the Karelian Isthmus and an unavoidable obstacle in the event of an offensive by the Soviet Red Army.
This line of defense has been painstakingly operated in Finland for more than a decade, and a large number of engineers from Germany and England have been involved in this work. By the time the war broke out, a complete system of fortifications had been formed. It consists of three defensive zones with a depth of about 90 km. Relying on natural obstacles such as swamps and lakes, each defense zone has 670 permanent firing fortifications and earth-wood firepower points, as well as nearly 800 underground bunkers, which are communicated by trenches and communication trenches. In front of the main defense zone, there is a support zone with a depth of 20~60 kilometers. Anti-tank and anti-infantry mines, anti-tank piles, anti-tank trenches and anti-tank cliffs are widely set up in front of the main defensive zone and in the support zone.
The Soviet Red Army was battered on this line, and they attacked from August 22 until mid-September, but they could not gnaw through the sturdy turtle shell. In several other counter-attacks, the Finns put up stubborn resistance to them, taking advantage of the terrain.
The majestic 300,000 Soviet Red Army attacked Finland with the strength of Mount Tai, but it ended up fighting for almost a month without much progress, which made military experts all over the world smash their glasses and made the Soviet Union a big joke in the world.
In the end, Stalin was also angry, so he sent the love general Prenyakov to the front as the chief of the general staff, responsible for commanding the war against Finland. Several new weapons were mobilized, including the 600mm heavy siege howitzer, which could fire 2-ton special concrete-piercing shells. And their own Kirov heavy bombing airship, well, this is a genuine Kirov airship, certainly not the kind from Red Alert, just the same name. However, the purpose is similar, this heavy airship can drop three-ton armor-piercing bombs. Moreover, Stalin also ordered the use of gas bombs.
After arriving at the front, Prenyakov ordered the air force to carry out strategic bombing of the Finnish rear, the main targets of which were Finnish cities, barracks, factories, warehouses, as well as material staging places and transportation hubs, in order to cut off reinforcements from the Mannerheim Line. At the same time, the Red Navy was dispatched.
In terms of size alone, the Soviet Red Navy had one of the largest fleets in the world, with two of the largest battleships in the world, "Red Russia" and "Red Ukraine", which quickly eliminated the small Finnish coastal defense navy and blocked the waters around the Gulf of Baltia and the Gulf of Finland, while shelling Finnish bases and coastal facilities to support the forces of the Leningrad Front in breaking through the "Mannerheim Line".
After all, Finland is only a small country, and under the series of blows of the Soviet Union, it still cannot withstand it. On October 5, a gap was opened in the Mannerheim Line, and a torrent of Soviet Red Army armor rolled in.
But Stalin didn't rejoice for long, and then something went wrong again, because winter was coming.
Finland is one of the coldest countries in the world, and a quarter of its territory is located in the Arctic zone. The winter is long and cold, with heavy wind and snow, and the temperature is often below minus 30~40 degrees. This year's winter seems to have come very early, with a huge cold snap hitting the North Pole and bringing a blizzard.
So the Soviets were dumbfounded. Despite their previous preparations, the terrain here in Finland was so disgusting that the Finns deliberately destroyed transportation facilities and laid dense mines during the evacuation, causing great distress to the Soviet Red Army. In a snow-capped, forest-covered wasteland, the tanks and heavy artillery of the Soviet Red Army were in a situation where heroes were useless.
At this time, international aid was also sent to the Finns, including humanitarian relief supplies from China. Finland's elusive ski units, along with automatic rifles, bazookas, and 107 rocket launchers, brought the Soviet Red Army to the ground.
The USSR got bogged down in Finland.
............................................................
November 27, Hankyung.
A bunch of high-ranking Chinese officials were talking about the Soviet-Finnish war.
"I really can't imagine that the Soviet Union was so embarrassed by Finland......"
"yes, it's amazing how such a big advantage can be made like this. ”
Everyone looked gloating.
"Mr. Wen, how long do you think this war will last?" asked Xu Xilin.
Wen Deji thought for a while and said: "It won't be too long, at most two months, and the Finns won't be able to withstand it." Although they did perform well and fought bravely, both officers and men were very good. However, this level of tactical victory still cannot recover the absolute strategic disadvantage. ”
"Two months? It can't be so short, I think the Finns are still very capable of fighting. Qiu Jin, chairman of the Women's Federation, said.
Xin Jie said disappreciatively: "What's the use of fighting again? Now that the cities and towns of Finland have been bombed to ruins by the Soviets, it is difficult to say whether they will survive this winter." ”
"However, this time the Soviets were well prepared, and although they looked embarrassed, the real losses were not great, far from the point of breaking their bones. If we continue to fight, Finland will not be able to stand it first......" said Wendesi.
"Guerrilla warfare can only be an auxiliary, and can never replace the regular battlefield, and their ski units seem to have a big advantage, but there are not many real results. The Finns' navy and air force were all wiped out, and the mechanized units were blown up. Unless the Western powers are willing to take it personally, Finland will lose. ”
