Chapter XVI: The First Day at Sea
Heading west in a puff of smoke towards the depths of the Misty Sea, the Asuka will head west to the Misty Sea Islands, an overseas colony of Intis, the archipelago where the proverb says "never trust the archipelagos", before heading south to Santa Harbor, northwest of the kingdom of Fenerport.
Although the Misty Sea has always been known for its foggy weather, in the offshore area, similar phenomena are not so exaggerated, and Lumian read a book for nearly three hours in the bright sun.
It was an introductory textbook to the highland language of the Fenerport Kingdom, although Lumian had Lugano as a translator and guide, but he didn't want to become a "deaf and dumb" because of this, and completely relied on Lugano to provide information and convey words, in that case, Lugano really had something wrong, deliberately concealed or distorted the key meaning, and he couldn't detect it, and things would become quite troublesome and dangerous.
Before arriving in Santa Port, Lumien wanted to master some of the most commonly used words in the Highlands, even if he couldn't communicate with the locals, and then use them to verify the integrity of the translation.
Normally, it is almost impossible for an extraordinary person who is not a "reader" to learn the Altitude language in a journey of less than ten days, but Lumian has mastered the ancient Forsak language, which is the source of the Altitude language, and there are a lot of similarities between the two in terms of sentence patterns, word meanings, grammar, and word construction, which can make Lumian spend the same amount of effort on learning the Altitude language to achieve three times, or even four or five times the effect.
"When will dinner be delivered?" Ludwig hovered in front of the chaise longue where Lumien was sitting, annoyed that it was already dark outside, but he hadn't seen his waiter arrive with a dining cart.
Lumian closed his books in the glimmer of the sunset and the lit kerosene lamp, and laughed:
"Who told you to order so much? Always give time to the kitchen, but fortunately the first class does not provide free meals, but there is a separate kitchen, otherwise it would be too busy......"
Before he could finish speaking, the doorbell rang.
The sound of jingling bells echoed, and Lugano opened the heavy vermilion wooden door and watched as the young waiter pushed the dining cart into the room with a thick tawny carpet.
Under Ludwig's eager and urging eyes, the waiter unhurriedly laid out the tablecloth and set the tableware.
"It's a local delicacy, the garti herring, which is marinated in olive oil with smoked soft herring steak and sliced onions and carrots, and spices such as thyme and bay, left in the shade for 24 to 48 hours, and is served with a mild potato salad
"It's french fries, and there's a saying in Haut-Bintz-Binh, that without fries, there is no heaven.
"It's raisin brioche bread"
"It's fresh oysters and a variety of shellfish ......"
"Here's the Fox turkey, here's the ham mushroom burrito, here's um the duck minced and coarse brown sugar vanilla waffles"
"It's a traditional orange cheese....... there's a very strong smell of grey cheese, would you like to try it?
"This is the favorite cider of Hautskaya Province"
Lumien listened with great interest to the waiter's introduction to each dish, but Ludwig, who was surprised by his lack of a knife and fork, patiently endured until the other man had finished speaking, and then ate the aperitif, and tasted the marinated smoked herring steak.
Is this an awakening of something? Lumian glanced at the kid suspiciously.
"It's okay, the smoky flavor is just right, and the aroma and seasoning form a very rich taste ......"
Dwig commented in a very professional tone, but with his baby-fat face and the appearance of only seven or eight years old, Lumian not only did not admire, but found it absurd and funny.
Port Gatti is close to the sea, and oysters and other shellfish are quite good, not only better than most of Trier's restaurants, but also cheaper, and Lumien sipping cider while eating this local dinner.
The dinner for eight people was only cleaned by the plates, bones and other scraps left after Ludwig's efforts.
Lumien and Lugano had no small appetites, and each ate a meal for two, but it was still a little worse than Ludwig's, based on the premise that the latter had afternoon tea and began dessert after eating.
Why don't you go to the bathroom so often...... Where does the food go? Is your stomach a bottomless pit?
Lumien glanced at Ludwig, stood up, and said to Lugano, "I want to go to the ship's bar, do you want to go together?"
"I didn't sleep all night last night, and I want to go to bed early today." Lugano couldn't understand why his employer, who had also stayed up all night and traveled all day, was so energetic that he wasn't at all sleepy and could even go to the bar for a few more hours.
Is it because he has a higher sequence?
The little boy with an unusual appetite seems to be quite energetic...
Lumian did not invite another translator, and after leaving Ludwig for supper, he changed into a plain dark brown jacket and left the room and walked to the bar where the first class belonged.
The bar was elegantly furnished, with soft melodies played by small bands, and there were not many customers, each sitting in different positions, very quiet.
Lumian looked at the doorway for a few seconds, then shook his head and left.
He descended the stairs all the way to the deck level, where he entered the bar belonging to the third-class cabins and ordinary crew.
The clamour, shouts, flapping, and screaming of singing overflowed the room in the pervasive smell of wine, echoing around the Lumian.
Lumian suddenly felt a sense of familiarity back to his hometown, and the whole person seemed to relax a lot, and every cell was a little active.
That's the atmosphere, isn't it...... As a frequent visitor to the old tavern at a very young age, Lumien swayed slightly and squeezed to the front of the bar.
"A glass of 'Green Fairy'." He tapped on the wooden tabletop.
The bartender was a young man with the characteristics of a Ferneport, with a thin face, black hair and black eyes, a dark silhouette, a yellowish complexion, and decent facial features.
"Okay, 10 Ricks." The bartender replied in Intis, with a distinctly foreign accent.
The things on the ship were more expensive than Trier............ and as soon as Lumien counted the coins, he saw the bartender look behind him, and said in a very sincere and warm tone, "Ma'am, what would you like to drink?"
"A glass of cherry wine." The answer was a lady in a thick yellow dress, with a beautiful face and light green eyes.
"Okay!" The bartender didn't even collect the money first, and was ready to pour the lady wine.
"I'll come first." Lumian reminded the bartender with a smile.
The bartender replied without a stumble, "What a beautiful and dazzling lady this is, and my heart tells me to serve her first."
Yo, what a Fenerport........ Lumien is not angry, but has the feeling of watching a circus show.
Fenerport is a romantic man and constantly chases love, and the mainstream belief is "Mother Earth Goddess", which attaches great importance to the status of women, so the men of this kingdom will open their mouths to praise any woman, and if they really like it, they will pursue it unabashedly and unreservedly.
Aurore once said that the men of Fenerport were the epitome of vernacular tales, but they were disgusting and disgusting, and with that unusually sincere, incomparably straightforward and frank attitude, they did not appear greasy, but had a different style.
In this respect, the Intis, who are also romantic by nature, are inferior to the Fenerporters.
However, the vast majority of Fenerport, influenced by both tradition and faith, attach great importance to family, fertility and children, and prefer family settlements, as long as they choose to enter into marriage without the element of coercion, they will become like the most conservative Rune, and it is difficult for them to accept the existence of extramarital affairs.
There are many cheaters in the most conservative kingdom of Rune, but they are certainly not as exaggerated and common as Intis, and many people even think that there must be no love in marriage.
When the lady had paid and taken the cherry wine, the bartender poured the "green fairy" for Lumian and inserted mint leaves for decoration.
"My grandmother told me to treat every lady preferentially, especially the pretty one," he said without healing.
"I understand." Lumian entered the old tavern regular, drank absinthe, and made up the story, "I used to have many beautiful female companions, even more beautiful than the lady just now, but unfortunately, I am only one person, and I can't be their husband at the same time......"
The bartender Dunsheng found the same feeling: "I often have similar regrets, in this world, there are too many beautiful women, and I only have one."
"What do you call it?"
"Louie, you just call me Louie." Lumian was given a false name.
His current identity is Louie. Berry.
"My name is Francesco." The bartender and Lumien made small talk.
The familiar environment, the habitual bragging, and the lively atmosphere made Lumian feel slightly drunk even though he hadn't drunk much.
If it weren't for those occult disasters, if Aurore was still alive, if he had already been admitted to college, and had nothing else to worry about, it would have been nice to just drink at the bar
People who travel on the seas are always talking about the pirates, and Francesco, the bartender, tells Lumien: "Since ironclad technology has been widely used in merchant ships, the pirates' lives have become more difficult, and their sailboats can't keep up with these iron-clad monsters that can run at speeds of 16 or 17 knots, and they can't rob them!"
Speaking of this, Francesco lowered his voice: "The pirates' favorite trick now is to send some people disguised as passengers, board the ship from different ports, and after arriving at the predetermined sea area, riot internally, and initially control the ship, so that the pirate ships waiting nearby can have a chance to approach."
"Really?" Lumian asked with interest, "Who do you think on board looks like an undercover pirate?"
Francesco was stunned for a moment and said, "It's only the first day, how can you tell it?"
