Chapter Seventy-Seven: The Deepest Reckoning of the Chamber of Secrets
Slytherin's massive stone face moved, its mouth opening wider and wider, forming a large black hollow.
According to Lockhart's memory, when Voldemort summoned the basilisk, the basilisk always came out of here.
Although it was presumably connected to the sewers, Harley suspected that there might be another secret room inside.
After all, Slytherin did not leave an heir with a written inheritance, only a thousand-year-old basilisk, which is unreasonable to think.
Looking at the entrance of the cave, Harley did not hesitate, and her legs exerted a slight force.
She took advantage of the serpentine relief on the pillar next to the statue and the bulge of the Slytherin statue itself, and moved quickly, making one last leap to the mouth of the cave.
As soon as I arrived at the entrance of the cave, an inexplicable smell came to my face, and the ground of the passage was full of some inexplicable things, which was disgusting.
At this moment, Harley doubted her conjecture.
After all, it was hard for anyone to imagine that a noble Slytherin would build another secret room in such a disgusting place.
But now that we've come here, Hallie is ready to move on. She lit the passage with her wand and walked forward as she was surrounded by black flames.
The further I went, the stronger the inexplicable smell became, and there was a faint sound of water at the end of the passage.
"Damn, it looks like I guessed wrong, I've been tortured for so long."
Harley spoiled, and was about to turn around, but her gaze swept to the diagonal side of the wall.
Harley's movements stopped instantly, and she saw a small serpentine mark in that spot.
Is there really a secret room dedicated to text messages?
Harley was pleasantly surprised, then raised her vigilance, still holding her wand in her right hand and pulling out the dagger she had brought out of the family vault in her left hand.
As Lockhart remembers, Riddle never mentioned it. Harley also didn't believe that Voldemort, who thought highly of himself, would explore the foul-smelling passage.
Not to mention, he wouldn't believe that Slytherin would build another secret room here.
So if Hallie guessed correctly, I'm afraid no one has explored this place, and I don't know what traps are left.
"Open!"
The snake glowed green, and then a small opening opened in the wall.
Harley remained cautious, first throwing a small mirror inside, confirming that there was no danger through her psychic vision, and then entering with her real body.
It was a small room, empty except for some words carved into the walls.
Judging by the thick layer of ash that has accumulated on the ground, no one has been here for nearly a thousand years.
"Sure enough, Voldemort didn't come." Harley pondered, picked up the mirror, and shook off the dust from it.
The cold poured out of Harry's body, quickly freezing the dust on the ground, creating a foothold for herself.
Without thinking much about it, Harley went straight to the wall where the words were engraved.
Densely written on the walls were Slytherin's messages in snake language:
"My descendants, it's nice to see you here.
By the time you read this, I'm probably dead, or not far from death.
I didn't want these words to stay, for fear that you, according to ancient books, would follow the same path as me.
But I didn't want to leave nothing behind, so I built this one of the secret rooms.
I was dying because the path ahead that could have been continued was broken.
And the path I once walked is disappearing, and even the place where I stood is crumbling.
And Godric, Rowena and Helga did the same.
So we can only choose to embark on another path, one that is almost certain to die.
But we have no choice.
I have left some precious but not very harmful magical knowledge in the basilisk's brain, and I hope you can put it to good use. ”
Seeing this, Harley kind of understood why no one had come here.
The basilisk had Slytherin knowledge in his head, and Voldemort knew this when he discovered the chamber.
He probably thought that it was all the inheritance, and he didn't realize that there was a secret room in the depths of the passage behind the statue that hid a small amount of information.
In addition, no one would believe that Slytherin, who had always maintained his nobility, would build a secret room within a secret room here, so he didn't set foot here at all.
As for the Gaunt, according to the book, he only optimized the plumbing system on the basis of the castle's original pipes, and by the way, modified the entrance to the outermost secret chamber in Slytherin so that the basilisk could move through the walls.
And the pipe outside this room already existed at that time, and the basilisk could go to the outside world through this pipe to hunt.
"In this way, this basilisk has lived for thousands of years, but it has no brains, and it can be explained."
Harley stroked the words on the wall, "Presumably, Senior Riddle chose to destroy the basilisk's brain in order to prevent magic leakage."
But thanks to Senior Riddle, if it weren't for his selfish behavior, I wouldn't have been able to discover this secret room. ”
Slytherin's words contain a lot of information that can be linked to what Nicol told Harley last summer, as well as the message of the ancient ghost at the death party.
Harley silently jotted down the information before leaving the room.
……
The chamber was sealed off by Harley again, and in order not to spoil the ceremonial scene, Harley took nothing but Lockhart's two pockets.
At the Room of Requirement, Harley poured everything out of the bag.
One of the bags contained a small half-bag of gold galleons, probably in the thousands, as well as some pearls and a considerable number of precious stones.
In addition to the notes, the other bag contained some potion materials.
Most of these potions were related to healing and flesh potions, and Harley guessed that Lockhart had collected them when he was collecting them for Voldemort.
But what surprised Harley the most was that there was a roll of basilisk shed skin in the deepest part of the pocket.
Although the snakeskin has been carefully rolled up, it still occupies most of the pocket.
The snakeskin is a bright color, and it is clear that it has only recently faded.
"That's good." Harley frowned, after all, the basilisk had been torn to pieces by her own ice spear.
And now this whole skin is obviously more valuable to Hallie.
After sorting out the harvest, Harley took a shower and didn't go back to the bedroom, choosing to sleep here.
……
The semester is over, the grades are out, and Hallie has no doubt that she has won the first place.
The auditorium was still bright red, after all, in the next two Quidditch matches, Hallie crushed Hufflepuff and Ravenclaw, and the Halo 2000 easily tore through their defenses.
Although Katie missed out on the Golden Snitch against Ravenclaw's Cho Chang, it didn't prevent Harley from scoring seventeen goals in a single game.
With the extra points from Quidditch and the points from Hallie's Special Contribution Award, Gryffindor was undisputed in first place.
"Eight consecutive championships! We should have won eight in a row! ”
The Slytherins were indignant, but they had to admit that Hallie had achieved these scores on a solid basis, and the professors were not biased.
Professor Snape wasn't upset, though, as he knew he had a part to blame.
Anyway, it's only these seven years, and once the seven-year period is over, with Professor Snape's bonus, the House Cup champion is still theirs!
Besides, after Lockhart's death, Professor Snape once again took a part-time job as his coveted Defence Against the Dark Arts professor, and he had no reason to be dissatisfied.
Before boarding the train and leaving Hogwarts, Professor Snape asked Harley again:
"After you've been at Desley's house for about a week, come to the Leaky Cauldron. I'll take you to the Potions Tournament when the time comes. ”
"Professor, how did we plan our route?" Hallie asked.
"Dumbledore and Old Professor Horace will be with us, and the Ministry of Magic will grant a portkey to France.
The rest of the route is to ask Dumbledore. ”
Professor Snape whispered, "When you get back, you can review the original potions I gave you in the last few weeks."
Don't be stressed to your level and there is no problem. ”
After saying goodbye to Professor Snape, Hallie boarded the train home.
On the way, the girls burst into condolences when they heard that Hallie might not be able to provide answers this holiday season.
Hermione looked pleased, though.
"They're too dependent on you." Hermione whispered to Hallie as she got off the train, "Goodbye, there's a chance to get back in touch during the summer." ”
"Goodbye." Hallie chuckled and said goodbye to Hermione, then walked over to Aunt Vernon, who was on the verge of archis.
