Chapter 81: Reflections on Practice: A Letter to Dad
Compared with the embarrassment of Qian Quan's magazine being discovered by his classmates, Qian Wenlin generously took the magazine to the office, and after finding that his colleagues didn't notice it, he deliberately said:
"After the draft of this "New Story Monthly" is passed, there will be a sample issue by mail, have you received it before?"
Two colleagues who also submitted successfully said that they had received it, and then took Qian Wenlin's sample journal to look at it and asked, "Mr. Qian, which one are you?" ”
Qian Wenlin reported the name of his article.
The colleague smiled at first, then looked for it according to the catalog, and said with a smile for a while: "Mr. Qian, have you seen the one behind your work?" ”
"Look, it's a bit of a-for-tat." Qian Wenlin said with a smile.
The first time he got the sample, he first read his work, and naturally noticed Qian Quan's article "Father's Love is Like a Mountain".
I wrote about cheating, and the latter one wrote about my son killing the junior, and the editorial department was so lively, obviously intentionally.
"When's the time to treat?" A colleague asked as he flipped through the magazine.
"As soon as the manuscript fee arrives, I will be treated immediately." Qian Wenlin has been waiting for this day for a long time.
After a day of class, Qian Wenlin returned home, and when he had dinner with his wife, he asked, "Did Shi say how he did with his driver's license?" ”
"The first subject has passed, and the exam for the second subject has been scheduled."
"What are you doing in such a hurry, the second subject is a bit difficult, you should practice more and then take the test."
"Then tell your son, tell him about your experience, and don't let me ask me anything."
"Well, let's talk about it." Qian Wenlin has recently had a feeling that as his son gets older and more knowledgeable, it seems that there is a strange thin barrier between their father and son.
It seems that every father will encounter a situation in which "the aura of omniscience and omnipotence gradually fades" in the process of growing up in his children.
After eating, Qian Wenlin washed the dishes and chopsticks, went out for a walk with his wife to eat, and then, his wife went to Linlang's mother to play mahjong and went back to write and practice.
Now it has become a habit to get up every morning to play Wing Chun wooden stakes for a while, write calligraphy at night, and then practice "Wudang Secret Small Cycle Gong".
This "small cycle exercise" with the annotation next to it is really fascinating the more you practice, and it is really a good kung fu for self-cultivation.
It's just that he has also encountered some problems recently, which may come from the pressure of work, or the emotional impact of the magazine's manuscript, and it is difficult for him to calm down when he is practicing.
For example, he is meditating quietly, his body is not moving, his mind is like water, and his mind is flowing smoothly in and out with his breathing......
Calm, settled, concentrated, everything was perfect.
Suddenly, certain thoughts came to mind:
"What does Chen Xiao mean by that, is he pointing at me?"
"Suddenly I want to eat my mother's rolled noodles."
"Do you want to call Yuhua back......
At this point, the practice was interrupted, and he forcibly wrestled with these thoughts, pulling back into his breath, and not long after, new thoughts appeared:
"I don't have to pay the tuition fee for the stone, which saves a lot of money."
"I may become a well-known writer in China in the future."
"Will oil prices come down?"
……
It's like a pull, falling into a vicious circle, and soon the mood will be irritable.
He stopped practicing and went to the group of relatives and friends to ask: "The "Wudang Secret Transmission Small Cycle Gong" sent by Shifa, are any of you practicing?" ”
Soon, the brother-in-law replied: "What is there to practice, if you have that time, it is better to push two rounds of pai gow." ”
Then Qian Quan's aunt replied: "Haha, Wenlin wants to be an immortal, I clicked on it, that kung fu is not practiced by us ordinary people." ”
"I originally wanted to practice, but when I saw the text introduction, practicing that kung fu can prolong life, think about it or forget it, this earth is enough, I want to withdraw as soon as possible." Qian Quan, a cousin who was working part-time, replied.
After reading everyone's replies, Qian Wenlin understood that other people didn't actually take that document seriously.
That's it, it's just a matter of living up to the stone's intentions.
At this moment, Qian Wenlin received a private chat from his son: "Dad, why did you suddenly ask the question of whether anyone is practicing?" ”
"I wanted to discuss it with you, and I found that no one cared." Qian Wenlin was helpless.
"Maybe people think I'm joking."
"I heard from your mother, you have made an appointment for the subject 2 exam, how many times have you practiced?" Qian Wenlin directly changed the topic.
"After practicing two or three times, the coach said that I practiced well and could take the exam."
"Remember, when you take the exam, drive steadily and slowly, no matter how the coach urges you, drive at your own pace."
"Hmm."
The chat ends.
Qian Wenlin no longer forced to continue practicing, and went to play Go for a while.
At nine o'clock in the evening, I received an email from the stone, and I was curious, so I clicked on it to see:
Father's knee:
Dear Respect, in recent days, I have practiced "Wudang Jinggong", and I have a few insights, and I would like to ask for your advice:
First, regarding the attitude of spiritual concentration, I don't want to preset my position anymore, I no longer have expectations, I just follow my own speed and direction, seal up my delusions, and move forward naturally.
I don't want to be overly forced, or overly tight, to stay relaxed and steady;
I don't want to be too anxious and in a hurry, I don't cling to anything, I don't reject any phenomenon, whether it is good or bad, I look at it with a normal mind and accept it;
I accept my distractions, I reconcile with myself, I question everything, I don't believe it because it comes from a big person, I don't take it for granted because it rhymes and the head is the way, but I'm not cynical at the same time;
I take all the good and the bad as a challenge and a temper, and when I encounter the good, I accept it with joy, and when I encounter the bad, I do not feel sad, but devote myself to it and explore it;
Finally, I don't compare myself to anyone, appearance, grades, IQ, or popularity, and I don't become hostile to others because of identity gaps.
The second is dealing with distractions, every time I go into mindfulness before or during meditation breathing, emotions such as bad fantasies, worries, and ambitions often arise in my mind, and the more I try to expel them, the stronger they become.
So instead of suppressing them, I observe them carefully, stop blaming myself for this distraction, observe them at a distance, slowly draw my attention back to my breath, and so on.
The third is some misunderstandings about practice, the document that my friend gave me is called "Wudang Secret Small Cycle Gong", which has the word "secret transmission", but I found that it is not mysterious, but very down-to-earth, suitable for both big people and ordinary people;
It is a very simple behavior, which may produce some profound feelings in the process of cultivation, or it may only be a very superficial sense of ease, and what appears is what it is, and there is no right answer;
Practicing Jinggong is not to escape from reality, and it is impossible to solve all problems through it, its harvest is in the subtle places, there will be no great changes in the short term, and I feel that my endurance is improving little by little;
Finally, whether it is possible to produce a kind of "detachment" or "supernatural power" after long-term practice, my friend did not say it explicitly, and I don't want to look forward to it, if it shows up one day, I will be very happy, and if it doesn't appear, I don't think it matters.
Fourth, about the relationship between practice and life, for a long time, I would choose a fixed time and a fixed place to practice, but later I found out that Jinggong does not necessarily have to be practiced in a quiet place, but it can also be practiced in daily life;
For example, when I go for a walk, I raise my head and chest, relax my neck, and move forward naturally at the slowest and most comfortable pace, focusing my full attention on the sensations coming from my feet and legs, remembering the information when each foot moves, paying attention to the subtle differences between movements, and feeling every small tactile change......
For example, I will pay attention to my breathing anytime and anywhere, not only when I am practicing, but also in my daily activities, so as to connect my breathing with every move, increase the rhythm of my actions, stabilize the emotions of my actions, experience nature, feel nature, move when I move, and be quiet when I am still;
I also take every bit of time to practice, while waiting for the bus, when queuing in the cafeteria, during recess......
For example, I also try to incorporate every little thing and every emotion in my daily life into my practice, whether it is positive or negative, beautiful or shameful, it doesn't matter, I just want to observe and notice it as it is.
Even when I'm bored, I want to find out what it's like to be bored, how it works, how it affects my state of mind, and what it consists of.
The same goes for anger and frustration.
I think that when I practice these thoughts well, and I can properly deal with every sudden distraction or delusion, then I will be able to concentrate my attention on the breath and the flow of the breath when I am practicing meditation.
At that time, can it be said that I will move on to the next level?
Some unsystematic thoughts, I hope my father will correct them.
Respectfully

November 30
After reading the email, Qian Wenlin was stunned for a long time, not to mention whether the method proposed in the email could work, but the points he targeted were all his own doubts or confusions, and many places just read the text, and he had a sense of enlightenment.
What is even more rare is that the methods he proposed are not lofty at all, but all concrete and practical.
This alone can be said to be worthy of the connection between father and son, right?
Qian Wenlin felt both relieved and a little ashamed, feeling that after his son entered the university, he made rapid progress in all aspects.
After thinking about it, he replied:
"It's read, it's not bad."
