Chapter 167: A Chance Bank Robbery
The next day, early in the morning.
Peter went downstairs and saw Uncle Ben watching a news TV show.
The picture on TV seems to be in the slums of Brooklyn.
The sky was drizzling, umbrellas were spread out on the wide front lawn, and the reporters with microphones were enthusiastic as if they didn't care about the bad weather.
The TV station truck was parked on the side of the road and sent the ceremony to the whole city.
On the TV set of every house, you can see young people standing on a high platform, witnessing the upcoming changes in the city.
"Today is an extraordinary day, and a day to start a new chapter in New York."
Tony. Stark stood on the stage in a suit and leather shoes, and he glanced back at the slums behind him.
"My father, my family, they all love this land, this city! My ancestors bought their first factory here, and then countless dreaming travelers flocked to this place, those who came by boat, sailors and even captains, who came one after another, looking forward to a bright future! β
"The soldiers left the barracks, the peasants kept their fields, the servants left their masters, the workers threw their tools, the civil servants left their desks, and even the missionaries went out of the preaching houses...... The yearning for wealth and the pursuit of dreams make this land an adventure paradise for all! β
"My father told me countless times about that glorious era, the pioneering era!"
Tony. Stark changed his usual frivolity and said affectionately and in a low voice.
The fine rain is like a cow's hair, falling with a sprinkle.
There was silence, as if everyone could be heard breathing.
The rich and famous people present, the high-ranking officials of the city hall, and the news reporters of major TV stations couldn't help but follow Tony. Stark's words recall the changes of the last century.
"Some say the city has degenerated, others say the city has lost its former dignity ......"
"My father has said many times that he is ashamed! Because he didn't contribute to the city as much as he could, he could only watch the city get bad...... I'm standing here today just to make some commitment to me. Want to make up for the city a little bit, that's what I'm trying to say. β
Reading a specially prepared speech, Tony. Stark was a little uncomfortable.
But he still insisted on reading the text on the manuscript.
Warm applause rang out, and everyone present stood up one after another.
The thunderous applause faded into a waning tone, and Tony. Stark stepped down.
And that's the end of his performance.
in the living room.
Watching Tony on TV. Stark, Peter asks Uncle Ben, "Is he going to run for mayor?" β
"Probably not, but if he runs for mayor now, he will definitely be able to get elected."
Uncle Ben said to Peter: "This billionaire not only disbanded his company's weapons manufacturing department, but also rebuilt the slums, and he looks a little different than before. β
"Whether it's a sincere idea or a high-sounding statement, in short, he received a full applause."
Uncle Ben shook his head and said with emotion: "One thing is irrefutable, he really wants to make this city better. β
"It's not easy."
Peter was silent for a moment, looked at the picture on the TV news, and said to Uncle Ben, "He can't change anything. β
"We can't say for sure."
Uncle Ben quickly got down to business, "Peter, can you come with me to the bank?" I'm going to take care of some business. β
He wanted Peter to go to the bank with him.
Since he knew his nephew's identity, when he went out to handle this kind of financial business, he asked Peter to be his bodyguard.
"Of course."
Peter nodded, "I'll drive the car." β
After driving the car on the road, the two soon arrived at the nearby First National Bank.
Uncle Ben went to the counter to handle business after entering the bank, while Peter sat in the lounge area and read the newspaper.
Since it was a weekend, there were many customers in the bank who came to do business, and the whole hall was full of people.
After reading the newspaper for a while, Peter frowned.
He stood up and walked towards Uncle Ben.
"Uncle Ben, I have something I want to tell you."
"Now?"
Uncle Ben looked at Peter in surprise.
"Now, let's go out and talk."
Peter's keen sense of what was happening outside was unusual.
For the sake of Uncle Ben's safety, Uncle Ben should be paid to the bank first.
Not far from Uncle Ben and Peter, the group broke into the bank and broke the noise.
"Good morning, ladies and gentlemen!"
An unbridled voice rang out in the bank hall, followed by the roar of a Remington shotgun that often appears in cop movies.
"Bang!"
The bank hall, which was originally full of life, lost its voice in an instant, as if someone had choked its neck.
From the noisy sound at the beginning, it changed to a very abrupt silence.
Several bandits wearing black hoods broke into the bank.
They swaggered in from the outside with the collars of the security guards downstairs.
The one who walked in front released an empty gun without saying a word.
"No one is allowed to move, lie on the ground!"
The leader raised the shotgun in his hand, pointed it at the citizens around him and spun it around, and then pulled the trigger towards the chandelier above the hall.
The loud roar once again frightened all the citizens into trembling, for fear that the cold muzzle of the gun would be aimed at them.
"For the sake of your own life, it's best not to act rashly, and even if you are lucky enough to call the police...... It would take 10 minutes for the police to get here. β
The group of robbers apparently came prepared, calculating in advance the time it would take for the NYPD to dispatch its police force.
"And before thatβ"
The hooded robber turned his gun to the security guard's chest in a relaxed tone.
"It's okay to kill them all."
With a "bang", he smashed the shotgun into the opponent's face, knocking the security guard to the ground in one fell swoop.
The frightened citizens were immediately silenced.
After intimidating the surrounding citizens, the robbers began to point guns at bank staff to withdraw money.
And the leader of the robbers, pacing down the hall, did not seem to have any nervousness as a robber.
Unlike his companions, his entire face was obscured by a black hood.
He bared a slender, slender chin and a beard that looked like sparse weeds.
"There's only three minutes left, pick up the speed!"
Looking at the table below, the leader urged his men.
The gangsters, armed with firearms, also ordered the bank staff to hurry up and load the money.
Five minutes ago.
George. Stacy, as usual, carried out her daily patrol mission.
After the Spider-Woman incident, in Frank. With the help of Custer (the Punisher), he was reinstated, but his position began to be downgraded, and in addition to sitting in the office, he had to perform patrol operations.
He looked through the lowered window and saw his black partner, Jeff, shopping for hot dogs outside.
After getting in the car, his partner handed him a newspaper, "See the latest news?" Tony. Stark became a philanthropic entrepreneur. β
"It's a nice change."
George nodded, "The city does need to make some changes. β
He was in the New York Police Department, and he was used to seeing a lot of corruption and political dealings, and he also had a lot of emotion in his heart.
"Well, I think the NYPD has to make some changes, too."
The black partner said to him: "Yesterday I also saw Fryce 'blackmailing' at a convenience store. β
Jeff's reference to Frees being a white man who was involved with some gangsters, taking bribes and acting as a lackey, is something that many people in the NYPD know.
But no one cares, because there are a lot of police officers who have part of the gray income.
He can't change this environment, he can only remain neutral and do his job well.
The environment has a subtle power, and no one likes a whistleblower.
So over time, everyone is well aware of this kind of gray income, but they choose to turn a blind eye.
In the beginning, George. Stacy tries to change that, but ultimately fails.
It can only be said that the change of atmosphere does not happen overnight.
"Want a bit?"
Jeff asked him with the hot dog.
"No, I'm not a hot dog lover."
George shook his head and started the engine, but before the police car could run, the code instructions from the dispatch station came from the on-board radio.
"First National Bank?"
Jeff muttered that he could have gone home to rest after his patrol mission, but now he had to run back.
According to the code issued by the dispatch station, it was supposed to be a gang of armed robbers who broke into the bank.
"Well, hopefully we won't be late."
Jeff put down the hot dog and began to pull out his gun to prepare.
