The first year of the story: The Sorting Ceremony at Hogwarts (Part I)
The train slowed down and finally stopped. Passengers pushed and shoved, rushed to the door, and descended to a small, dark platform. The chill of the night made Harper shiver. Then a lamp flickered above the students' heads, and Harper heard a familiar voice shouting, "First graders!" First-year students are here! ”
"Rubeus, long time no see, I thought the train was straight to Hogwarts." Harper walked up to Hagird and smiled.
"Hello, Harper! This is Hogsmeade Station, and there is no way to get to the school directly by train, so we have to take a boat from the big lake to the school. In the crowd, Hagrid's bearded face smiled and touched Harper's head.
Pansy and Blaise, who were left behind, walked up to Draco and asked cautiously, "Does Harper know that half-giant?" I heard that the man was very rough, lived in a small cabin on the school grounds, and from time to time got drunk and played with some magic, and ended up burning his own bed. ”
"Draco, would your parents approve of you associating with someone you know? Despite the fact that she is a savior. Blaise considered himself to have been exposed to his mother since he was a child, and he did not think that a family like Malfoy, who had an aristocratic mindset in his blood, would allow his heirs to associate with the inferior species.
"Blaise, contact with Harper was exactly what my father taught me, and they knew it, and my father knew it." Draco changed her previous impetuous arrogance and was very serious, "And along the way, have you ever seen her smile at anyone?" Aside from Granger, for unknown reasons, it can be seen that she should be a very protective person, and if you say bad things about that person in front of her, it could be the next Goyle. With that, he walked over to Harper.
"Come on, come with me, are there any new first-year students? Watch out for the soles of your feet, all right! First-year students come with me! ”
They followed Hagrid and stumbled, stumbling and seeming to go downhill along a steep, narrow path. It was pitch black on both sides of the path, except for the rustling sound on both sides like the wind blowing leaves, and no one spoke. Only Neville sniffed once or twice once in a while.
"Turn this corner, and you'll soon see Hogwarts for the first time." Hagrid shouted back. Then there was a loud "oh——! ”
At the end of the narrow path, a black lake suddenly unfolded. On the high hillside on the other side of the lake rises a majestic castle with spires and windows twinkling under the stars.
"No more than four people per boat!" Hagrid exclaimed, pointing to a group of small boats moored to the shore. Harper was the first to step onto an empty boat, followed by Draco, and Goyle and Crabber, who were supposed to follow the boat, were pulled by Blaise into the back, pushing Hermione and Neville on.
"Hermione, Neville, be careful, what is Blaise doing, don't you know it's dangerous?" Harper held the two people who almost fell, and the boat shook violently with his footsteps.
"Zabini shouldn't have meant it, probably just in a hurry to get on board." Hermione said, sitting still. Draco glanced back at Blaise, then looked down unsure of what he was thinking.
"Are you all on board?" Hagrid shouted, "That's good...... Go ahead! A group of small boats immediately rowed across the mirror-like lake. Everyone was silent, staring at the huge castle that reached into the sky. As they approached the cliff on which the castle stood, it seemed to rise above them.
"Keep your head down!" As the first boats approached the cliff, Hagrid shouted. Everyone bowed their heads, and the boat carried them through the ivy curtain that covered the front of the cliff to the hidden open entrance. They followed a pitch-black tunnel that seemed to lead to the castle underneath, and finally reached a place that resembled an underground pier, and then climbed up to the ground of gravel and small pebbles.
As the boat docked on the edge of the dock and the students disembarked, Hagrid found a toad while checking the empty boat and stopped Neville, "Hey, look! Is this your toad? ”
"Thank you Merlin! Thank you! Neville took the toad with his arms outstretched and shouted in ecstasy. They then climbed a tunnel in the rocks in the light of Hagrid lanterns and finally reached a flat, damp meadow in the shadow of the castle. They climbed a stone staircase and gathered in front of a large oak door.
"Are you all there?" Hagrid raised a large fist and slammed it three times on the castle gate. The gate was immediately opened. A tall black-haired witch in an emerald green robe stood in front of the gate, her expression serious.
"First-year freshman, Professor McGonagall." Hagrid said.
"Thank you, Hagrid. I'll pick it up here. Behind McGonagall's open door was a huge foyer, a very open space, with blazing torches on the stone walls and a ceiling so high that you couldn't see the top. The façade is a sumptuous marble staircase that leads to the second floor. They followed McGonagall to the second door on the left side of the foyer, a small, empty room where McGonagall leaned sideways for everyone to enter.
"Welcome to Hogwarts, the opening feast is about to begin, but before you take your seats in the Great Hall, you must first determine which house you are going to attend. The Sorting House is an important ritual because while you are in school, the House is like your home at Hogwarts. You will attend classes with other students in the college, live in the dormitory of the college, and spend your free time together in the common room of the college.
The names of the four houses were: Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw, and Slytherin. Each academy has its own glorious history and has produced outstanding wizards. During your time at Hogwarts, your outstanding performance will earn extra points for your house, while any misconduct will result in a loss of points for your house. At the end of the year, the college with the highest score receives the House Cup, which is a high honor. I hope that no matter which house you are assigned to, you will be able to bring glory to the college.
In a few minutes, the sorting ceremony will be held in front of all the teachers and students of the school. I suggest that you get in order and be refreshed while you wait. McGonagall's gaze shifted between the filthy piece of Neville's cloak tied under his left ear and a red-haired boy's nose. I'll pick you up when I'm ready. While waiting, please be quiet. Then he left the room.
"Hermione, are you—are you going to be nervous? There won't be exams for this sorting ceremony, right? I don't know anything yet. Neville's hands shaking as he retied his cloak.
"I've already reviewed all of this year's textbooks, so there should be no problem." Hermione looked at Neville's untieable straps and went straight to help.
"Malfoy has always been a Slytherin." Draco is not worried. Goyle, Crabber, Blaise, and Pansy all nodded.
At this moment, someone suddenly screamed loudly behind them, and about twenty ghosts suddenly jumped out of the wall behind them. These pearly white, translucent ghosts scared Neville into hiding behind Hermione, "That's?" ”
"It's supposed to be a ghost." Harper said to the others, apparently frightened, as he gave way to the ghosts.
The ghosts glided across the room, talking to each other, but paying little attention to the first-year students. They seem to be arguing about something. A chubby little friar-like ghost said, "Forgive, forget, I say, we should give him another chance-"
"My good monk, haven't we given Peeves enough chances? But he gave us all nasty nicknames. You know, he can't even reach the least ghost - I mean, what are you doing here? "A ghost in a wheel-shaped ruffled collared bodysuit suddenly spotted the freshman.
"New life!" Seeing that no one was paying attention, the fat monk smiled at them and said, "I guess you're going to get tested, right?" ”
Some students nodded silently.
"Hopefully you'll get a Hufflepuff!" "I used to be in that house. ”
"Now moving forward, the sorting ceremony is about to begin. Line up in a single line and follow me. McGonagall said back to the room to the freshmen.
The ghosts saw the coming, fluttered, and the fish ran through the opposite wall and disappeared.
Everyone followed McGonagall out of the room, through the foyer, where there were four large hourglasses of different colors to the right of the oak door, and a grand auditorium was opened by double doors next to the hourglass.
The four long tables in the hall of the Great Hall were filled with students with glittering gold plates and goblts, and the high walls reached to the ceiling, which looked like black velvet with a little starlight on it, and there were many candles floating in the air to illuminate the Great Hall, which must have been caused by magic. Directly in front of him was the long table of the guest of honor, which was already filled with teachers—Snape, Hagrid, Quirrell, and Dumbledore, who had not been seen in a long time.
McGonagall brought the freshmen to the guest of honor and lined them up in front of the entire upperclass, with the teachers behind them. The candlelight flickered, and hundreds of faces staring at them were like pale lanterns. The ghosts also mingled with the students, shimmering with a hazy silver light.
There was a four-legged stool in front of him, and a wizard's hat was placed on the stool. The hat was patched, worn out, and dirty. Harper didn't think he would let her wear such a dirty, old, ugly hat for a while.
Then the hat twisted and cracked, like a mouth—and the hat began to sing:
You may think I'm not pretty,
But don't judge people by their appearance,
If you can find a more beautiful hat than mine,
I can eat myself.
You can make your bowler hat jet black and shiny,
Make your high-capped caps smooth and crisp,
I'm the Sorting Hat of Hogwarts,
Naturally, they are taller than your hats.
Any thought hidden in your mind,
can't escape the golden eyes of the Sorting Hat,
Put it on and try it, and I'll tell you,
Which college should you be assigned to?
You may belong to Gryffindor,
There is bravery buried in the bottom of my heart,
Their courage, their courage and chivalry,
Make Gryffindor outstanding;
You may belong to Hufflepuff,
The people there are upright and faithful,
Hufflepuff students are stoic and honest,
Not afraid of hard labor;
If you are shrewd,
Perhaps the old Ravenclaw will enter wisdom,
Those who are wise and learned,
There will always be their fellow believers;
Maybe you'll get into Slytherin,
Make sincere friends here,
But those who are cunning and insidious will stop at nothing,
to achieve their purpose.
Come put me on! Don't be afraid!
Don't panic!
In my hands (even though I don't even have a hand)
You are absolutely safe
Because I'm a thinking hat!
After the hat finished singing, the audience applauded. The hat bowed to each of the four tables, and then stood still. Many of the freshmen quietly breathed a sigh of relief, and Harper silently closed his eyes and mourned his hair.
At this point, McGonagall took a few steps forward, a roll of parchment in his hand. "Whoever I call by name now puts on his hat and sits on a stool and waits for the Sorting House."
“Hannah Abbott!” A ruddy-faced little girl with two blonde braids stumbled out of the queue and put on a hat that just covered her eyes. She sat down. There was a pause for a moment - "Hufflepuff!" The hat shouted. The people at the table on the right applauded Hannah and welcomed her to their table. The Fat Friar's ghost waved happily at her.
“Susan Bones!” "Hufflepuff!" The hat shouted again. Susan quickly ran over to Hannah and sat down.
“Terry Boot!” "Ravenclaw!" This time, the second table on the left clapped and applauded. When Terry joined them, several Ravenclaw students stood up and shook his hand.
Mandy Brocklehurst was also assigned to Ravenclaw, and Lavender Brown was the first Gryffindor freshman, and the farthest table on the left erupted in cheers and booed from the red-haired twins. Then Millicent Bulstrode became a new Slytherin student.
"Justin Finchrie!" "Hufflepuff!"
......
Harper found that sometimes the hat immediately called out the name of the house, but other times it took some time to make a decision. For example, the light-haired boy Seamus Finnigan sat on the stool for almost a full minute before the hat announced that he had been sorted into Gryffindor.
“Hermione Granger!” Hermione almost ran to the stool and hurriedly buttoned his hat to his head. "Ravenclaw!" The hat shouted. She sat down with her fellow students and glanced at Harper, who looked at her and made a congratulatory gesture.
When Neville was called, he fell on the way to the stool. It took a long time for the hat to make a decision on him. When the hat finally shouted "Gryffindor", he ran away with the hat on, and finally had to trot back to McGonagall in a burst of laughter.
When Draco was called, he walked over in a big way, and immediately got his wish, screaming "Slytherin!" He went to meet up with Goyle and Crabber, looking very happy with himself. After sitting at the long table in Slyntrin, he stared at Harper until he was glared at by Harper.
At this time, there are not many people left. Mohn…… Nott…… Parkinson…… After that came the Patil twins...... And then there was Sally Perks...... Finally, it was finally the turn of "Harper Potter!" ”
As Harper walked forward, there was a sudden buzz whisper in the dining room that hissed like a small flame. Everyone looked at him in the hope of seeing him.
"Potter, is she calling Potter?" "Is that Harper Potter?"
"Well," said a small voice in Harper's ear as he put on his hat, "interesting. Very interesting. Mean and cold but considerate and kind, not bound by rules and has its own principles, good at listening to advice but lazy, dangerous and powerful, not lacking in justice and courage, and not bad heart, it is really a very contradictory character, very interesting...... Where shall I divide you? ”
Harper listened impatiently as the hat muttered to himself, "You're so long-winded! I'm hungry, can I hurry? ”
"Say I'm verbose? You rude little girl, you are not wrong to say that you are mean. The hat suddenly became louder, and Harper's head buzzed. It seems that you are better suited to harm them. ”
"Slytherin!"
