Compassion does not mean that soldiers are in charge of righteousness and wealth

Compassion is not in charge of the army, and righteousness is not in charge of wealth, which means that the heart is charitable, and the power of the army cannot be controlled; Benevolence and righteousness are easy to give, and they have no financial power. This sentence comes from the twenty-fifth volume of Ming Feng Menglong's "Warning to the World": "Since ancient times, it has been said that 'mercy is not in charge of soldiers, and righteousness is not in charge of wealth.'" Although Shi Sheng is a good person, he is not rich for benevolence, and the family affairs are gradually declining as before. My family is all done on the ground of Huiji, and I climb a high gate to the other side, and these fields also have a place to rely on. ”

People who are too righteous value friends over finances, let such people be in charge of financial power, and the results can be imagined. Shopping malls are like battlefields, and if you are too righteous when doing business, it is difficult to make money. This sentence does not mean that there is no traitor and no businessman, and such a businessman will not go far.

Righteousness does not control wealth, the real meaning is that righteousness and wealth cannot be without principles, without a bottom line, and cannot be arbitrary. People who really do great things and make a lot of money must have a sense of responsibility, credibility, and righteousness. For example, the famous red-top businessman Hu Xueyan, who took into account the country's righteousness, worked for the country's righteousness and squandered money, and eventually became the country's leading red-top businessman.

Many people will say, you see Liu Bei is a very benevolent person, and the soldiers are also very good, in fact, this is "Romance of the Three Kingdoms" I have watched too much, it is Liu Bei who really whips the post, and it is Liu Bei who participates in the edict to oppose Cao Cao, in fact, Liu Bei and Cao Cao are almost the same, but Liu Bei can play a more shameless banner than Cao Cao, and he gradually grows.

is really in charge of the army, such as Cao Cao, that is the courage of "I would rather bear the people of the world than teach the people of the world to bear me"; That was Li Shimin, who launched the Xuanwumen Rebellion, killed his brother and forced his father; That was Genghis Khan, and the greatest joy in life was to defeat the enemy and get to their wives and children. In charge of the army, in charge of the military power, leading the troops to fight, the general.

And the battle between soldiers has only one purpose: to win. Use numbers, strength, courage, strategy, and all other means to win. If you want to win, you have to fight.

In the Wanli period, the scribe Yang Su summarized the experience of the ancient sages in cultivating themselves and governing the country, and added six sentences when adding the "Zengguang Xianwen":

Benevolence does not do business, righteousness does not keep money; Love is not prestigious, good is not official; Mercy does not command the army, and softness does not supervise the country.

This makes a clear distinction between functional areas. The first two sentences say businessmen, the middle two sentences say being officials, and the last two sentences say generals. As for why it became "mercy is not in charge of the army, love is not in charge, righteousness is not finance, and kindness is not an official", it is obvious that the people have reprocessed Yang Su's six sentences.

For the common people, "supervising the country" is an unattainable thing, and it is useless to mention it too much, so it is deleted and not mentioned. And the "merchants", although ranked last in the "Shinong industry and commerce", but in the folk spontaneous commodity trading is common, although there are big businessmen for the rich and unkind, but there are also small businessmen of integrity-based, so it is estimated that many people do not like to listen, so it is not to mention.

"Compassion is not in charge of the army, righteousness is not financial management" is the earliest stereotype and included in the "Zengguang Xianwen", naturally has its folk theoretical basis, after removing Yang Su's literati treatment of this proverb (retaining the new "love does not stand up, good is not official" recognized by the common people), this common saying has officially become what it is now.

Changing "Liwei" to "Lishi", and "Juguan" to "being an official", first, is more in line with the lives of the people, and second, it is more colloquial.

Only what is popular and recognized by the common people can truly become proverbs and be passed on.

Cautionary tales

"Warning to the World" is a collection of vernacular short stories compiled by Feng Menglong in the late Ming Dynasty. The book was completed in the fourth year of the Ming Dynasty (1624). The subject matter is either from folklore, or from folk religious scrolls and novels. The era described in the story includes the Song, Yuan, and Ming dynasties.

Many of the works in this collection are based on the real life of the lower classes of people and express their thoughts and feelings. A large proportion of the works depict love, praising the pursuit of happy love and the single-mindedness and loyalty of young men and women, as well as their resistance to feudal etiquette. In addition, there are also works that show the dissatisfaction and rebellion of the lower classes against the feudal rulers.
