Volume IV Behind the Scenes XIII

"Can that little girl please give me a little bit? Our carriage is a little too wide, well, thank you. I'm not a child, and even though I'm a little shorter, I guess you shouldn't be wrong to call me uncle. Big brother, your cloak is carefully rolled into the wheels of the carriage. Samia is on top, why is it so hot today!"

Despite being half the height of a normal person, but at least twice as loud as a normal person, there is usually no deviation from this view of the halfling race, which is why the dark elf Nesse heard the voice of the halfling Edel half the way down the street.

The size of Redfish Village is not too small, but there is only one street in the village that is actually paved with stone floors, and the street that runs through Redfish Village from east to west is actually an important post road from Onyx City to the east and south. Ness, who was sipping a glass of fruit wine at the Sharpened Fish Thorn Tavern at the east end of the street, had arrived in Redfish Village early this morning with her sister, the Dark Elf Mage Nia, and their sisters' mentor, Edgar the Halfling. The Tavern of Sharpened Fishbones had a few tables and stools on the pavement, and Ness thought it was a good place to observe the pedestrians on the street, while the halfling and the dark elf Nia had breakfast quietly in a nearby alley in preparation for the execution of the traitor.

Edel's voice continued unabated, and the spit from the mouth of the elder of the Thieves' Guild never seemed to show the slightest sign of drying up, and despite the slow pace, Edel's carriage came to Ness. Ness hurriedly lowered her head and straightened the cape and hat that covered her pointed ears, as long as the pointed ears symbolizing the elves, the dark elves, and the other elven races were not seen. Anyone would see nothing more than a thin, handsome girl in front of Ness, who quietly peeked sideways at Edel and his carriage. The sight almost made Ness laugh out loud on the spot.

It was an ordinary two-wheeled wagon. Two tall horses led the carriage behind them down the street, and if they were standing on level ground, they were at least twice as tall as Eder, so Eder, who sat in the driver's seat, brandished his whip and pointed at his feet, and kept shouting words like "let go" and "please be careful", looked very funny against the backdrop. Soon it would be the season of the Red Fish Village's specialty, the plump red fish, so the streets were a little crowded, and Edel urged the horses pulling the cart forward, while carefully protecting the carriage behind him, which was covered with a large black cloth, which seemed to be filled with chests and large jars, and the words "Welcome to the Sunflower Hotel" were faintly visible on the black cloth that covered them. "Uncle Eder is going to buy ingredients from the farm outside Redfish Village. Ness muttered to herself, she wasn't going to greet Edel like a traitor. If Edel is involved, it won't do anyone any good.

"Good morning, Miss! No, no, I don't plan to buy red fish today, you know, red fish are expensive this season and don't taste good enough. Sir, be careful of the horses' hooves, these two horses don't listen to me very much. Yes, lettuce, I'll come back and get it. Can anyone help me pull the cow out of front of me? It's in my way......"

Edel's voice faded away, and Ness returned her attention to the pedestrians on the street, where she had been sitting for nearly three hours. Every pedestrian who appeared on the street did not escape her eyes. Why hasn't he shown up yet? Didn't he just hide in Redfish Village? Ness drank the rest of the fruit wine from her glass in one gulp, and was about to get up and go around. A familiar voice rang out behind Ness.

"Boss, get me two pounds of brown bread. No, please help me wrap up, I made an appointment, well, it's your village chief to meet. ā€

As if struck by lightning, Ness's hand holding the glass froze in mid-air, and Isaac, the traitor to the Thieves' Guild, was behind her. Ness gently placed the glass in her left hand, then raised it in front of her as if she were scrutinizing the rough clay glass, the tip of the long dagger in her left sleeve had slid into her palm, and the small dagger reflected what was behind her.

The familiar back, yes, was Isaac, who had already paid the bill, picked up a small pocket and walked down the street to the west. Ness carefully changed the angle of her left hand with Isaac's movements, and at a certain moment, Ness seemed to see Isaac secretly looking back in her direction, but before she could confirm it, she put a palm on Ness's shoulder: "Miss, our cup is not pretty, right? Or do you want to have an extra glass of fruit wine?"

Frightened, Ness hurriedly put the cup back on the table: "Uh, yes, yes." One more drink, boss. As she spoke, Ness raised her left hand again, this time pretending to play with the hair that had been stuck to her forehead in cold sweat. The small dagger reflected Isaac's movements, and Isaac stealthily paused in front of a house, then pushed open the door and rushed in at breakneck speed.

Ness took a sip of a full glass of fruit wine that the boss had placed on the table in front of her, and looked back at the house Isaac had entered, a two-story house that stood out from the bungalows around it, with cream-white marble tiles in front of the door, and intricately carved wood on the doorframe. There are only three double-story buildings in the entire Redfish Village, and the sharpened fishbone tavern behind Ness is one of them, another is the church at the west end of the Redfish Village, and the other is the house that Isaac entered just now. Ness turned around and threw the two copper coins on the table, "Boss, please settle the bill." Also, I would like to ask who belongs to the two-story house in the middle of the village, which seems to be less expensive than the house in the village. ā€

"Thank you, miss. Is that the house the house of Anthony Koma, the head of our Red Fish Village, and do you know the Chancellor of the Exchequer who was killed not long ago? There are rumors that the chief of the village and the Chancellor of the Exchequer are relatives, but the Chancellor of the Exchequer died. It doesn't seem to make the village chief feel sad. ā€

"Oh. Good. Thank you. I'll just tell you why this house looks completely different from the others. Ness stood up slightly, taking a closer look at the surroundings of the chief's house, then turned and walked in the direction of the alley where the elder of the Thieves' Guild and Ness's sister were hiding.

A smell of decay awakened the dungeon lord and demon Amtils. The demon who opened his eyes opened his eyes slowly and carefully, and found himself half-lying in a straw hut with his back against the wall, the ground covered with grass, and the scorching light that came through the cracks in the wooden wall beside him indicated that it was almost noon. It's a barn. But there didn't seem to be any horses or other animals in the shed at the moment, and many farm tools were piled up scattered behind the two broken wooden doors, and the lower half of one of the wooden doors seemed to have been kicked off, and the dust that came in from the hollow made the demon's nose itch, and the demon hurriedly raised his right hand to cover his mouth.

"Hello!"

The sound of the sneeze was unusually loud in the empty shed, but the demon's right hand suddenly stopped moving from its mouth, and its eyes stared straight ahead, the sound of the sneeze not coming from the demon's mouth, but from the demon's side. The demon's fiery red eyes slowly slipped to the right corner of his eye: a large gray mass crouched beside him, and the demon looked to the left from the corner of his eye, and the same gray mass was spread out beside him. Then the demon finally remembered who they were and where he was now.

Although he appeared to be completely unconscious at the time, the demon was still in a state of condition when Archmage Aqiman unleashed several dazzling rays of light at the demon in the "Sumer's Flaming Sword". At least that's what he thinks. Although there was a lot of anger in his heart for Aqiman's ruthlessness and unrighteousness, the demon did not curse Aqiman at all. This is because the demon who thinks he has reached the brink of death cannot remember any language except the language of his own homeland, the Abyssal Demon Realm, for a moment, and words such as "kindness", "kindness", and "honesty" are the most vicious curses in the demon's native language.

It was only a few seconds before the demon began to describe the archmage in these words, and the light from the scroll in the archmage's hand deftly slid across the demon's skin, and then hit the walls and ground around the demon, sending up a cloud of smoke and dust. The demon was pleased to find that several of the other mages were trying to look in the direction he was, but they did not seem to notice where he was, only the archmage's teacher looked at him meaningfully, and then there was a sharp pain in the place where the demon had been wounded by the demon-killing sword of Count Brad Crane, and this time, the demon was really unconscious.

When the demon awoke again, he found himself in a familiar room, where he had been hiding all day, and the owner of this room had made a deep impression on him, or rather, the chatter of the owner of this room, which the owner of the dungeon would never forget. This is the kitchen of Edel, the younger brother of the Halfling Elder of the Thieves' Guild, in the Sunflower Inn.

Edel's kitchen is accompanied by two grey dwarves who work as blacksmiths in the Halfling Elder's weapons shop, and during their stay in the weapons shop, the demons love to chat with the two grey dwarves named Morgan and Carey, so they know each other well. Two grey dwarves rescued the dungeon lord from the flames after the mages of the Onyx Mage Guild left, and the "Flaming Sword of Sumer" was set on fire by the mages and burned to ruins. In order to advise his brother to leave Onyx City as soon as possible, Eder visited the "Flaming Sword of Sumer" once, so the two gray dwarves knew where Edel was and went to the kitchen of the Sunflower Hotel with the demons.

"Samia, why do you stink so much every time you come to me?" Eder was dressed neatly and looked like he was going out of the house, "But it doesn't matter, we can't stay here for too long anyway, the mages of the Mage Guild are roaming the streets, constantly admonishing people to abandon their belief in the Green Leaf God, I think it's a blasphemous act, do you say?"

"I, I'm ......" The sharp pain in his chest and arms left the demon speechless for a moment, while the two gray dwarves looked at the halfling without saying a word, the gray dwarves have always been the model of reticency, and the gray dwarves are better at communicating with the ore or metal in their hands than with other people.

Eder, who didn't get an approving response, put on a disappointed face: "I didn't think you guys had any objections. Maybe you all have your own beliefs? Actually, we halflings have our own gods! But we still can't accept the actions of the mages. I've heard that some people have been burned to death by the mages because of their insistence on believing in the Green Leaf God Cult! Today happens to be the day when I go to the vicinity of Redfish Village to buy ingredients, and the big guy who usually helps me drive the car is going to the street park today to listen to the blasphemous mages preaching, I think this is a good opportunity, there is a truck outside, you two help me carry him to the car and cover it with a cloth. Which of you can help me drive the carriage, but you two seem to be about the same height as me......

The two gray dwarves looked at each other, and Morgan spread his hands, indicating that neither of them knew how to handle the carriage, and Eder's continuous words came again: "What? You don't know how to drive the carriage, so I'll have to come by myself." Luckily, I usually watch big guys drive carriages......"

The demon passed out again, and he forgot to pursue Edel's mouth every time he saw him. They all stink?' and at this moment in the barn, perhaps it was the smell that Edel was talking about, and the demon began to look around for the source of the unbearable smell of decay. The two gray dwarves seemed to understand what the demon was looking for, and both covered their noses with one hand and pointed the other at the demon, Morgan on the left pointing to the demon's left arm and Carey on the right pointing to the demon's chest. Following their fingers, the demon glanced over himself, and let out a scream: the two wounds wounded by Count Brad Crane's demon-slaying sword had not healed at all after a long time, but had begun to show signs of festering. The muscles at the wound continued to shrink, and a wisp of white smoke floated out of the wound from time to time, and the demon seemed to see his own bones from the wound; the waves of sharp pain that rushed to the demon's heart did not make the demon snort, but the tragic condition of these two wounds made the dungeon lord scream unconsciously.

Before the screams of the demon Amtils fell, the wooden door of the barn was violently pushed open and then rudely shut again, as the door opened and closed. A dark shadow rushed in through the door, and the quick-eyed demon saw that this black shadow was carrying another person on its back. The short, slender black shadow rushed to the demon and the two gray dwarves in an instant. The long dagger in the shadow's hand was pointed at the demon's face, and although the demon himself could barely move, the two gray dwarves did not hesitate to raise their hammers and axes, respectively, to meet the battle.

"Am?", "......", "......", "......"

The long dagger in the shadow's hand suddenly stopped in mid-air, and the demon was surprised to find that it was the dark elf thief Niss with tear-stained face and long hair that was pointing at him, and her sister, the mage Nia, was lying on her sister's back, and Nia looked unconscious with her eyes closed. Both the demon and the two gray dwarves stared at Niss with wide eyes, completely unaware of what was happening, and Nis's pointed ears suddenly moved, and she shouted, "Not good, be careful!" As she spoke, Nith turned around and gently lowered Nia behind her to the ground, and Nia landed right on top of the dungeon lord, which made the demon close his mouth in pain, which also caused the large cloud of dirt, dust and weeds that followed to not fall into the demon's mouth.

The barn they were in seemed to have been blown by a hurricane, and in an instant it collapsed and scattered around them. They were surrounded by two men dressed in white robes who looked like mages, both of whom had gold threads embroidered with the royal motifs of the Holy Asserian Empire, and more than twenty men in leather armor and weapons of all kinds, led by a fat man with a harpoon in his hand, whose bespoke leather armor could not hide his high bulging belly.

"Oh, no, great goddess Lena, look what they've done!" a muscular, loyal-looking farmer ran toward them, a halfling Edel with an unbelievable look on his face. The farmer tried to make his way into the crowd and looked at the men with weapons in their hands, and if they were not mistaken, they must have been mercenaries: "What is this for? My stable, Lena bless my horses are not in the stable." The farmer was stunned, and the leader of this group of mercenaries was none other than Anthony Koma, the head of Redfish Village, whose tender white hand was on the harpoon, but he did not feel the slightest sense of incongruity.

"It's none of your business, Jose. Go back to the fields and do your farm work, and I will give you enough compensation when you come back, and your stables will be twice as big as they were. Anthony Coma's harpoon stopped in front of the farmer, who stared wide-eyed at the men who were standing or squatting in the place where his former stables were.

"Who are they?" the farmer looked curiously at the men, including two elves, two dwarves, and a creature with red skin that he had never seen before. "Is it a thief, village chief? I—I'm going to call the village sheriff, and the bishop. The farmer turned to run away as he spoke, and while the rest of the farmer's attention was on him, Edel sneaked in front of the mercenaries, and just as the halfling was about to reach the Grim Elves and the demons, a scream suddenly pierced the halfling cook's ears.

Edel slowly turned around to see a tall mercenary with different colored eyes turning the crossbow back at the dark elf Nice, and the farmer Jose fell to the ground, a short arrow on his vest was still shaking, and the head of Redfish Village glanced at the mercenary with a little annoyance, but the mercenary said indifferently: "Let him run and call someone to watch us work, it's not interesting, is it, boss?"

Anthony Coma snorted, but did not speak, but spoke to one of the mages: "Okay, isn't it just a farmer? Don't waste any more time, you're still waiting for our reply." Let's do it!"

Edel, the halfling, did not hesitate any longer, and rushed forward with a lunge, pushing the mercenary's crossbow to the side, and the sound of the bowstring sounded in Edel's ears, and one of the mercenaries fell to the ground screaming. The mercenaries immediately messed up, each waving their weapons wildly, but no one noticed Eder walking beside them. Only the mandarin duck-eyed mercenary dropped the crossbow and drew his sword to chase after Edel, and when the mercenary was about to catch up with the halfling cook, the thief Ness gritted her teeth and stepped forward with a long dagger. A scuffle ensued.

It was a scuffle, with the mercenaries rushing in the direction of Ness and Eder, but no one paid attention to Morgan and Carey, the grey dwarves who were also holding their weapons, and the grey dwarves unceremoniously attacked from behind, until the fourth mercenary lay at their feet before the others formally placed them in the enemy's ranks. Perhaps because the chaos was not suitable for magic, the two white-robed mages had been standing by, and on the side of the Dark Elves and Halflings, the demons Amtils and Nya had not stepped forward to help: Nya remained unconscious, and the demons were held down by Nya and could not move. (To be continued......)
