Chapter 10: Night
Esther lay on the rudimentary stone bed, soothed by that force, and gradually overwhelmed by sleep.
She had a dream.
Esther had never dreamed since she woke up in Tingen, and her sleep was always undisturbed and dark, and when she opened her eyes, the light of the sky fell on her face through the glass window of the attic.
But now, she is well aware that she is not "in the body" and that she does not even have hands or feet that she can move. It was like an empty hall, and Esther was imprisoned in a transparent sphere, and in the distance there was a thick gray mist of silence, and nothing else could be felt.
How long will such dreams last? Esther lost her sense of time, she only felt bored and irritable, and wanted to get out of here quickly. She would rather go back to the hard stone bed, wrapped in cold darkness, and still hear her own heartbeat and breathing.
I don't know how long this dream without "senses" lasted, and Esther's boredom was gradually replaced by despair.
Is she going to be trapped like this forever?
Esther couldn't even scream, and she couldn't communicate with anyone who could take her distress messages.
[Esther.]
Someone was calling her name, with a ...... English!?
As the name was called, the strange connection allowed Esther to regain her sense of her body, and she snapped open her eyes.
It was another dreamland, with the soothing scent of night vanilla and deep sleep flowers at her feet, and the field of flowers stretched as far as the eye could see, the red moon hanging high in the sky, but brighter were the stars around her, and Esther even recognized a few constellations that she was slightly familiar with.
In the distance, a tall, serene Gothic church looks carved out of black marble, surrounded by beautiful flower fields and a starry sky.
Even though the flower field naturally parted to the sides, revealing a path, Esther didn't even dare to make a loud gasp, she couldn't bear to break the peace here.
Immediately afterward, a light appeared not far away, between pale yellow and silvery white, like the color of the full moon falling on the earth after passing through the atmosphere on a clear night.
Esther felt the light familiar, and she couldn't help but step in that direction, and the field of flowers dispersed with her steps, leaving her on the gravel pavement.
Esther saw the ball of light, and also saw the tall woman holding it in her hand, the fist-sized ball of light was contained in the black crystal orb, and Esther felt it the moment she saw it, the light had an instinct to return to her body, and the light on it was rising and falling with Esther's breathing.
"Hello......" Esther looked cautiously at the woman, who was wearing a long black classical dress, with stars twinkling in the layers of staggered stars, no different from the night sky overhead. Esther couldn't see her face clearly, only that it was a rather beautiful face, and a hazy and illusory barrier hung over the woman, but Esther had an indescribable familiarity with her.
So a name blurted out: [XXXXXXXX.]
The name was not spoken, it became silent, and the moment the name was subconsciously spoken, Esther's head hurt as if it was about to explode, and she let out a mournful cry, clutching her forehead and kneeling on a few nightvanilla.
The light disappeared from the woman's hand, and she raised her arm and gently pointed her fingertips in Esther's direction, the rich aroma enveloping Esther's body, making her head dizzy, but it succeeded in relieving her pain.
"Who the hell are you ......"
The woman held out a hand at Esther and shook her head disapprovingly, "You have completely transformed yourself into a human, Esther. β
Esther took the woman's hand and stood up from the ground. The woman didn't speak Rune, but some older language, and Esther realized this, and subconsciously switched to that language: "I, I am human!" It may be strange, but I've heard people say that there are extraordinary abilities in this world, isn't that normal? β
The woman looked like she wanted to sigh, but in the end she couldn't hold back and laughed, and a very gentle and tolerant smile appeared on the corner of her mouth: "Okay, I know now." β
[ThenοΌ where are you from?]β So, where are you from? β
[Chi... Wait, what are you talking about!? ]
Esther couldn't help but burst out a sentence in Chinese, she was so shocked, this woman could speak English!?
The woman glanced at Esther a few times, and the smile on her face gradually faded: "Is it the child over there, judging by your performance, shouldn't you be too old?" β
Esther immediately retorted, "I'm not young, I'm a college graduate!" I just don't know why, but my body has become smaller since I came here. β
"It doesn't matter, like The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, does it?"
The noble-looking woman in front of her made a small joke, and Esther understood.
She remembered that it was a love movie, the male protagonist was born an old man, and then he lived younger and younger, but such a change in appearance and the turmoil of life made the male protagonist unable to spend his life hand in hand with his lover, and was always forced to leave many regrets respectively, until the end of his dying life, someone found the person the male protagonist loved, and the gray-haired female protagonist accompanied the male protagonist who became a child through the last period of life.
"That's not a good thing. It would be a tragedy if I fell in love with someone who was the opposite of me. Esther rubbed her head and said bitterly.
The woman even nodded: "If you are in such distress, you can pray to me, even if it is just to confide." β
Hearing the woman say this, Esther's eyes widened, and she suddenly remembered where her impressions of night herbs and deep sleep flowers came from, which were plants that were frequently described in the canon of the Church of Night.
"You're β but why are you!? Are you the goddess of the night? β
The woman chuckled, as if Esther's shocked look made her feel particularly surprised: "Yes, you know both of my real names, but I don't want you to think about them. Your memories will be revived by fate, that's what you told me. β
"And what should IβWhat should I call you? My God, aren't you the true God? Why did you know me, I've only been in this world for a few daysβ"
The woman's gaze was blocked by the black veil, but Esther could feel her gentle and pitiful gaze, which made Esther less excited, and she was shy about her overreaction just now: "Sorry, I just, a little too surprised......"
"You can call me the night, and of course if you want to call me a goddess and praise me with them, I will be glad to do so."
The woman's voice sounded pleasant, as if she wanted Esther to do so.
It's a shame to be mentioned in front of me, isn't it!?
Esther's face immediately turned red, and she waved her hands crampedly: "I, I, I'm not religious!" Scientologists who don't believe in anything! β
The night was silent for a few seconds, and he sighed heavily: "I haven't heard this word in many years." β
Esther suddenly remembered many strange places in this world, and she felt the same sadness as the night: "Do we have a chance to go back to Earth?" I also have parents and friends and I have a cat in my apartment......"
The night was silent for a longer time this time, until Esther thought she was going to be driven away, and the voice of the night came out with a sense of surprise: "You will know later, when your memory is restored." β
Ace nodded, dumbfounded for a moment.
The night patted Esther's head, and with the height difference between the two, this action didn't even need to fully raise the arm: "If you have something, you can always ask my church for help." Do you want to leave or stay during this time? β
Esther stared blankly at the night: "Stay?" Do you live in that stone house? Am I going to take up too much space? β
ββ¦β¦ It was used to hold people. Plenty of empty rooms, it doesn't matter. β
Asther hesitated for a few seconds: "I do like the atmosphere inside that door, it's quite similar to here." β
The night nodded: "Chanis Gate can stabilize your physical state, and if something happens, the night watchmen can borrow my power to appease you at any time." You'll be safe here, and there's no safer place in the whole of Tingen. β
"My extraordinary strength, does it affect ordinary people?"
"Not just ordinary people, but any creature that comes into contact with you will be affected, but through the seal of Chanismon, your unconscious spiritual power will be weakened."
"But it costs a lot of money to eat and live together, right?"
Heiye forced a smile: "It's okay, it's all agreed by us, you just have to do what you want." β
Of course, this was not what they had agreed upon, but the night was pleased to see Esther so "human" in her appearance, with her innocent but apprehensive look, frightened by the charity of others, almost a complete replica of the chosen one. The night doesn't know how Esther did it, but now Esther is completely filled with ordinary people's emotions, thoughts and troubles, and even makes the night feel more intimate.
Just like her time, ordinary girls who have just entered the society and are looking forward to the future believe that they will get better every day.
"Is this part of some fate? I don't understand why you're so nice to me......" Esther subconsciously rubbed her right eyebrow. She couldn't believe it, this was a pie-in-the-sky thing, it was too pleasantly surprised, and she couldn't help but wonder if there was something wrong with it.
The night did not answer the question, and Esther suddenly felt the dream dissipate, her body fluttering, wiped away by an invisible force, and began to leave here.
The last thing the night showed Esther was that gentle and compassionate smile.
After the darkness was once again enveloped in front of him, a fluttering word came from far away, twisted and blurred by waking from a dream, and was grasped by Esther with difficulty.
[Stay away from Amon.]β Stay away from Amon. β
Esther's problem suddenly became even more so that she remembered the last name, which was the little bug's last name, and that it had tried to lure Esther into telling the others about it as a "last name".
Behind the little bug is Amon? Why keep me away?
Esther chewed on the phrase, noticing that the night was in English, not any other language.
It is an otherworldly language that most people in this world do not understand.
