Chapter 40: Communication and Blame
"There's a problem there."
Crane pointed to the staircase separating the living room and the dining room, Dunn followed his gesture and looked over, and soon noticed something strange because of his high inspiration, he instructed Crane to perform a divination, and Crane immediately untied the citrine pendant in the cuff and held the silver chain with his left hand.
His eyes turned dark, and after he had recited the divination seven times, he returned to normal, and the citrine pendant was turning clockwise at a constant speed, not a small amount.
Klein immediately nodded to the others: "Even if there is danger, it can be solved smoothly, or even not." β
Dunn put the mutated Sun Emblem on his left chest and searched for the mechanism near the steps. Esther re-wrapped half of the morning light in her arms, leaned over and picked up the iron glove, carefully brushing the dust off it. Frye remained intently staring around with his pistol in hand, guarding against the enemy that might appear at any moment.
Seeing this, Klein also cheered up, pulled out the revolver again, and took on the same duty as Frye.
Within minutes, Dunn had stumbled somewhere, the floor of the stairs opening with the sound of a machine, revealing the colder, dirtier staircase below. Dunn took one look at it, and without hesitation, he took off the Sun Emblem on his chest and threw it directly down the secret door.
The uncomfortable chill was instantly dispelled, and after a minute of waiting, Dunn commanded, "Klein will follow me down to investigate, and Frye and Esther will stay on there to prevent any other accidents." β
The final investigation did not take any turns, and a few minutes later Klein came up to rotate with Frye, so that Frye, who had more experience in post-mortem examinations, could go down to check the wounds of the body in the coffin.
She chatted with Klein for a few words, learned a little about the situation in the secret room, and even though she had no clue about the person who took the skull, Esther made a guess similar to Dunn's about what he might have planned.
"The remains of the Extraordinary may contain great power," Esther lowered her voice as she showed Crane the iron gloves in her hand, "Sometimes these extraordinary powers merge into the outside world, and they become the things behind Chanis's Gate. I can hear them whispering, and the stronger the power or the more obsession, the more vivid the emotions or thoughts contained in those voices. β
"Is this the law of extraordinary properties?" Klein had never heard anything about it, and couldn't help but ask.
Esther shook her head, "I never told anyone about that. Do you remember the Captain that they found from Riel Bieber? It also gives me the feeling that it is similar to the extraordinary properties, almost like some kind of conservation of energy, what should this be called, extraordinary science? β
But some of them seem to be quite delicious. Of course, Esther would not say this.
But Klein quickly thought of something about his own experience, the tuxedo clown he had killed in the battle, and the imprint on the clown's body when he transformed in the autopsy roomβthe eerie blue blood ball in it.
Extraordinary power will carry it automatically? It's really extraordinary science.
Klein frowned, "So you can hear this now, is there any sound on the glove?" β
Hearing this, Esther held her gloves and closed her eyes, silently sensed for a while, and then nodded: "Yes, there is a voice similar to that evil spirit, with many curses of resentment and hatred. β
Klein also sensed Esther's example, but he felt nothing but the sound of the castle leaking and his own heartbeat. Klein recalled the yellowish light cocoon on Ademisor's body: "What a special ability. I think that the ability to suppress other seals also has something to do with this ability. β
"I think so too."
Ten minutes later, before the sun had sunk into the darkness of the night, Dunn and Frye made their way back down the steps to the hall. Dunn fumbled the trap to close the secret door, and Frye briefly described his autopsy findings: "Poisoned to death, neck marks from the last three months." β
The task of sorting out clues and reasoning was left to the night watchmen, and Esther had given up thinking, and she quietly hugged her gloves and walked out beside Dunn.
ββ
The group rushed back to the more central part of Lamb Town before dark, and booked three rooms at the hotel, and the members of the seal "3-0782" were required to take it for a walk in an uninhabited place outside the town, alternating every two hours. Dunn simply did not arrange a shift for Esther, because she had to carry the Sun Emblem all the way back, and the other three had to inquire about some clues in the town, so he left her alone at the inn to rest, and looked at the black glove at hand.
Esther couldn't help but say, "Actually, I don't have to sleep much, I can stay up late." It's nothing to help look at that badge. β
Dunn shook his head, "I'm just not worried about you running around outside of town." β
The reason for this was reasonable, after dinner, Esther was left alone in the hotel room, which made her a little depressed in addition to her boredom, and she sat directly on the wooden floor with a deck of playing cards and played solitaire.
Soon, another voice came out of Esther's pocket: "What are you doing?" I don't think I've ever seen this way of playing cards. β
Esther replied casually, "I'm killing time." Haven't you seen it? It's just a way to play in my hometown, and it's suitable for single-player games. β
The little bug poked its head out, and when Esther stretched out his finger, it climbed up and let Esther put it on the floor, and the little bug looked curiously at the cards on the field: "Your luck seems to be terrible, and the numbers can't be connected like this." β
"Oh? You actually understand the rules. Generally speaking, this game should be mixed with a lot of decks, so that the probability of number convergence will be greater, if you don't look at the suit, this sentence is still a little hopeful. β
Esther messed up all the poker on the ground and gave up the game decisively: "Forget it, my luck is really not good." β
"Didn't you really invent this game?" Curiously, the bug stretched out and rolled around the cards, flipping over a jack of spades.
"It's not. I don't have that good brains to invent games, and it's possible for me to invent new recipes. β
"Why do you like to eat so much? Eating ordinary foods that disappear as long as energy is consumed, they don't make you better. β
Esther frowned and said very seriously, "But people should eat!" People are iron and rice are steel, and if you don't eat a meal, you will be hungry and panic. β
The little bug shook his head: "Do you think you are human?" β
"Of course, although I wouldn't be stupid enough to say that I am an ordinary person, of course I am still human! One nose and two eyes, how can it not. β
ββ¦β¦ According to your description, the same is true for cattle and sheep. β
Esthermo rubbed her chin and leaned her back against the bedpost, relaxing her spirit, and replied casually, "But I can taste the sweetness that makes me happy, and the feeling of fullness that is relieved." I can choose what I like more, and I can enjoy the feeling of eating delicious food. All of this makes me think that eating is very meaningful, even if it is a bird, there are things that you like to eat and things you don't like to eat, right? β
The little bug was silent for a long time, then arched himself and flipped another card, which was a queen of hearts.
Esther stared at the little bug for a moment, "Are you hungry?" Would you like me to order something to eat from the front desk and have them delivered? I have money, and I don't need to ask the captain to reimburse me. β
The little bug's voice was much colder, and it seemed to be thinking about something: "No, it's you who wants to raise you in the night, not me." I haven't experienced it in a long time...... The kind of happiness you are talking about, just because of eating. β
Not for extraordinary properties, not for physiological needs that are no longer needed, but simply eating something that suits the taste, you can feel the most basic material pleasures, like an ordinary mortal.
For some reason, the little bug remembered the piece of cake that Esther had given him that was a little wider than its body. Looking back now, that piece of cake really didn't taste great, and it didn't serve on the table of any high-end banquet, but it tasted good.
Esther hesitated for a moment: "Do you want me to share your food in the future?" β
"No," the little bug suddenly lifted half of his body and looked straight into Esther's concerned eyes, "I'm a mythical creature, and I didn't need to eat to stay alive a long time ago. β
So put away your foolish care, naΓ―ve enough to think you are a human fool, and sooner or later you will realize what you really are.
Of course, Esther couldn't hear the little bug's heart, and the concern in her eyes was even heavier: "But missing out on food is a big regret in life." β
The little bug let out a staccato laugh, and finally it rolled around laughing on the cards until it got under a poker card. Esther stretched out her right hand and opened the plum K and "rescued" it: "Is it so funny what I said?" β
"Haha...... No, it's just that you're funny, very funny. The little worm clinged to Esther's finger and swirled around the base of her index finger to form a small ring with twelve rings.
"Why do you like to laugh at people so much?"
The little insect bit Esther's finger, which didn't hurt much, but more like an angry act: "That's because I can't do anything now, so I can only communicate with you." Your light directly treats me as an extracorporeal circulation, herding my extraordinary powers, and my current form is meant to be your appendage. β
Esther plucked the little bug from her finger and spread it out in her palm: "Oh, that's it...... Am I going a little too far? No wonder you seemed to hate me so much before. β
"I should give you a round of applause, congratulations to some idiot for finally knowing this abominable truth. But alas, I don't even have a hand right now. β
Esther felt quite guilty, she originally thought that the golden finger was actually robbing the power of the little bug, so she was helped too much by the little bug, which made Esther couldn't help but ask: "Is there any way to help you?" β
The little bug was silent for several seconds, and sighed heavily: "Alas, what stupid thing are you talking about? β
"I'm serious."
"But you should ask yourself if there's anything you can do!"
Esther looked away embarrassedly, and she touched her hair, which was hiding a special spot of light: "Well, it seems that none of us know. β
