Chapter Forty-Eight: The Task Still Needs to Be Worked
The tarot of the new week is approaching, and Klein is at home in turn, and once again comes to the gray fog ten minutes early.
Since his promotion, he hadn't properly probed the changes in the Grey Mist Temple.
After the familiar whispering and unrealization, his figure appeared on the tall chair at the top of the round table, and he could really feel his control over the gray fog a little deeper, not obviously, but he could really feel the resonance with this space. This is still the state that Klein has stabilized after taking the "Joker" potion, which gives him a lot of confidence, and it seems that the power of this gray mist does need a higher sequence to master.
Crane raised his hand and tentatively swung towards the gray mist above his head, and the mist that had originally covered the outside of the translucent sphere was immediately dispersed, and a soft light sprinkled from it, just shining on Crane who was in the main position.
The real body of this "spotlight" is a ball of light that cannot be seen from reality, like the pale yellow moon often painted on Mid-Autumn Festival illustrations. The ball of light was separated by a clear glass-like barrier, trapped under the gray fog, and it was completely a glass-covered ceiling light. Klein dispelled the gray mist that covered it, like wiping dust off an old light bulb, and brightened the whole hall a lot, and the surface of the bronze table and chairs was shrouded in a faint warmth.
Crane clearly felt that the spirituality necessary for him to maintain the Grey Mist Temple had been compressed, and that ball of light seemed to naturally begin to coordinate his consumption, and if he wanted to, he could now pull three more people from those red stars on the Grey Mist, far more than before, and one more than he felt after his previous promotion.
Klein sighed in his heart: This "spotlight" is really buy one get one free! It's so easy to use, isn't it?
He recalled the eternal sun he had watched during divination before, and at that time there seemed to be some light cocoon blocking his body, although he didn't hold it, but now it seems that the Eight Achievements are the automatic protection function of the "spotlight"?
It's sweet.
Crane smiled and raised his hand again, trying to pull through a bit of the gray mist to block the "spotlight" again, but his attempt failed this time.
He stared at the top of his head in embarrassment for a few seconds, then shook his head helplessly.
Anyway, it's a good thing, not a bad thing, and it doesn't affect the person of the "fool" who has awakened from ancient times, so let it be followed, and it can save some spirituality.
The next morning, before Klein could knock on the door of Dunn's office, Esther walked out of it.
"Oh, good morning, Klein! You're looking for a captain, aren't you? He's in there. β
"Good morning, Esther." Klein gave her a simple hat salute, "How does your body feel?" β
"Actually, there is nothing wrong with the body, but I can't wake up all the time......" Esther let out a long yawn before she could say this, and she quickly covered her mouth, "I'm sorry, I'm always sleepy." β
"It's a blessing to be able to sleep, and it's a blessing to be able to eat." Crane blinked, smiled and snapped his top hat back to block the smile from his eyes a little.
Esther glanced at him, "You sound like you're laughing at me." Without further ado, I should help Mrs. Orianna sort out last month's reimbursement list. β
Klein walked into Dunn's office, but Esther stopped in the middle of the hallway, her brow furrowing, and she raised her hand to rub the center of her right brow to relieve the faint stinging pain in her mind.
There's always a bad premonition.
Having a habit of giving up thinking from time to time and following her spiritual instincts completely, Esther walked briskly into the bathroom, finely parted a few strands of hair from her head that were still golden, and then pulled them off one by one, and quickly wrapped them together into small knots of distorted shape.
After a few minutes, Esther saw Klein walking out of the civilian office with a freshly typed document, and leaned over: "Klein, do you still have that knot I gave you earlier?" β
"Of course, right here." Crane kept it in his pocket, as carefully as the Sun Charm and Mr. Azik's brass whistle, and when Esther asked, he pulled out the red tassel knot.
Of the knots that Esther had knitted for everyone, the only one for Crane was the one that was made of pure red thread.
"You just tuck this in and get stuck in the tassel."
Esther handed over the small clump of knotted blonde hair, leaving Klein stunned for several seconds.
ββ¦β¦ Just stuff it in? β
"Yes, just take it." Esther looked at him resolutely.
Klein sighed, recalling the "time reversal" ability that Esther had displayed at that time, solemnly took the small ball of hair, and glanced at the large silver strand on Esther's head: "This is also a protective effect?" β
"It should be, you're too prone to accidents, uh, it feels like you're going to have the physique to attract extraordinary events, and it's always just unsettling."
Fellow, I can hear what you mean, you can call me unlucky...... Klein sighed silently in his heart.
Esther pointed to herself again: "In my current state, I am not suitable to follow the night watchmen on a mission, so this is the only way, you all have to be careful." β
"I will, I'll accept this friendship." Crane put the knot in her pocket again under Esther's nose, and saw a satisfied smile on her face.
Esther yawned again: "Huh...... This sleepiness is not the same as the head. I'd better go back to sleep a little longer, goodnight Klein. β
Klein knew the time without taking out his pocket watch, and it must not even be noon, but he still smiled and gave Esther a response: "Good night, Esther, have a good rest." β
ββ
In the middle of the night.
Esther was awakened by a tingling in her mind and a huge cross in a trance, and although this time she couldn't even see the person hanging upside down, the quality of her restful sleep plummeted.
Esther buried her face under the quilt and let out a faint moan from the unusually tormented migraine:
"Who the hell is it, saying that mortals should not grow old and look directly at God, isn't this a sin......"
ββ
Because of this painful midnight episode, Esther slept all day this time, and did not get up early until the third day, sitting in the reception hall of Blackthorn Security, eating the jam doughnuts that Roseanne had brought her.
Roseanne shook the Tingen Morning Post in her hand at Esther: "Today's headlines look amazing!" β
Asther took a donut in her mouth and browsed the huge headline "The Great Pirate Ziringus was shot dead by the Duke's bodyguards in Beckland", Asther had to admit that she didn't recognize either the Duke or any pirate, and the report below the news didn't even have a detailed introduction, only the most concise time and place, and it was simply a death notice.
"Who is this Ziringus?"
"It seems to be a very famous pirate, what is it called 'Lieutenant General Hurricane'? I've heard people mention it before. β
Esther tossed the newspaper back on Roshan's desk: "Why is a pirate running to Baekland if he doesn't stay at sea?" It's weird. β
"Who knows? Maybe there's a bigger conspiracy behind this......"
Esther grabbed a silver-white end of her hair and let go of her hand, "But he's dead." Even if there is any inside information, it will be suppressed because of the duke's background. It's like this news with no headline and no content. β
Roshan flipped through the newspaper again and pointed to the section introducing local events with some excitement: "On the 14th of this month, a new circus is coming!" Or the old place, the Municipal Square. I remember you said you wanted to check it out? β
Esther was also interested this time, and she squeezed next to Roseanne to read the newspaper with her: "I'll take a look...... Friday, it's good, you should remember to remind me then! β
"Of course I'll go with you, I'm not worried about you getting lost. There will definitely be a lot of people by then! β
"Roshan! I'm not a three-year-old! β
"Then you should get well quickly," Roshan poked Esther in the head, "and when you are well, you can play wherever you want." If it weren't for the captain's disapproval of your departure, we should all find time to spend our holidays at Desey Bay, where the sun is good. β
"Yes, there's a lot more to it than Tingen." Esther chimed in, but was at a loss.
The thought of leaving Tingen never completely disappeared from her mind since it appeared, and Asther seemed to hold a thin line that was not very clear, heralding a future that was getting closer and closer.
Foreshadow? Klein is the soothsayer, and she's not.
Esther shook her head, trying to shake off the strange spiritual sensations in her head, which gradually began to disturb her thoughts and make her anxious.
Luo Shan immediately looked over: "What's wrong?" Don't you like Didey Bay? β
Esther just diverted the subject with another small talk: "No, I'm worried about the boat!" I've never been on a boat in my life. β
Of course, a drifting kayak can't be compared to a cruise ship.
ββ
At noon, Klein returned to Dunn to report the results of the morning's investigation into the people around Laneus, when Roseanne came in to inform the captain that someone wanted to make a commission, and Crane followed Dunn into the reception hall.
Esther was pouring tea for two guests in long black dresses, who also had black floppy hats on their heads, and looked like they had just walked out of a funeral. Esther was softly telling the two ladies that the task needed to be confirmed by the captain before it could be distributed to the team members after signing the commission contract, and the service attitude was unusually professional.
When Klein heard one of the ladies make a plea, he immediately recalled a homicide case he had been involved in, and the lady next to him was the wife of the deceased Congressman Maynard, who appeared at Blackthorn Security to entrust them with the investigation of "Mrs. Sharron".
In the eyes of this lady, Sharon, who is famous in Tingen, must be the culprit of the death of Councillor Leonard, so she cannot accept the results of "excessive drinking and indulgence to death" given by the police, and wants to collect any evidence of any crime on Sharon.
At first, Dunn had a lot of scruples, but the lady only asked to track and monitor Sharon's whereabouts, and she could offer a high reward. It just so happened that Crane needed this experience, and he was promoted to "Joker" in Sequence 8, and his physical fitness was greatly strengthened and improved, so Dunn accepted the commission and handed over the task to Crane.
After the two ladies left, Dunn went back to his office, and Roseanne sat back at the reception desk and made a new check-in for the daily visitors.
Esther took a new teacup and poured Klein a cup of black tea, "You seem to have some clues?" β
"Yes, I've seen that lady before, but...... I'll have to wait until I do my field research to find out. β
Esther nodded thoughtfully: "Be careful, don't be too reckless, don't capsize in the gutter." β
"Of course I'll be careful," Klein glanced at Rothanne quickly, and seeing that she wasn't paying attention, he lowered his voice and said to Esther, "don't worry, I have a little secret." β
Esther rubbed her arm: "You really look like Leonard when you say this, and you might be going to save the world in the next second." β
Klein was stunned for a moment, and couldn't help laughing, causing Roseanne to look over: "What are you talking about?" β
Esther also smiled and took Roshan's question: "We're talking about Leonard's troubles, don't you tell him!" β
The next morning, after learning a lot of tracking and surveillance skills, Crane immediately took the practice and infiltrated the home of "Mrs. Sharon" at night.
However, neither Klein nor Dunn expected that there was really a big problem with this "Mrs. Sharron".
Klein infiltrates the safe in her home through special means and senses a white bone statue full of evil, and he immediately returns to the Black Thorn Security Company to report to Dunn, confirming that it is the idol of the "Original Witch".
Behind Chanis, Esther was already cowered under the covers, but she was suddenly awakened from her groggy state, and footsteps could be heard in the corridor outside.
It seems to be Dunn.
Esther immediately got up and listened as Dunn walked into the corridor deep inside where the seals were kept, and when he turned back, Estra opened the door and poked out half of her head.
"Huh? I thought you were asleep. Dunn was only slightly taken aback, and wanted to walk out quickly.
Esther glanced at the seal in Dunn's arms, covered with an impenetrable black cloth.
"Is it 3-0217?" Esther's expression instantly became serious, "Captain, you're going on a very dangerous mission, aren't you?" Do you want meβ"
"No, Esther, at least not yet." Dunn's tone was very stern, "You're not in a good state right now, so rest well and leave it to us." β
Esther had no way to refute, she just opened her mouth and fell silent.
Dunn shook his head at her, "Don't worry, we'll be back." β
Then he walked briskly to the end of the passage, where Crane was still outside waiting for Dunn and Kornley, who were going to Madame Sharon's house to officially deal with the members of the Witch Sect.
"Stay safe and wish you the best of luck." Esther whispered, watching Dunn walk out of the hallway, out of her sight.
