Chapter Ninety-One: A Serendipitous Encounter with an Unexpected Action at Night
The magician had all the preparations for tonight's extreme show, but he didn't plan to bring his assistants with him.
Unbeknownst to her, Esther left her hotel room at seven o'clock in the evening, and she took another horse-drawn bus from the subway to the next door to Iris Street.
Entering a deserted alleyway, Esther quickly flipped the black cloak, exposing the green side and putting on another black mask, this time leaving only her eyes and breathing nostrils exposed.
Yellowish dots of light drifted from between Esther's hair, and after just a few breaths, her hair turned completely silvery.
And those falling points of light continued to converge on Esther's face, superimposing a chaotic and mysterious light on top of the mask, as if forming an endless connection of wheels and streams, forming a strange shell that was half virtual and half real.
What made Esther uncomfortable was that after these points of light penetrated her face, they "sewed" the black iron mask directly onto her face, almost merging with her.
The points of light under the mask are intertwined, creating synapses that seem to meet nerve endings.
Esther breathed a sigh of relief when the process was over, she didn't expect such a strange effect from the temporary transfer of these points of light.
As Esther passed the garbage pile deep in the alley, she looked at her face through a few broken lenses next to her, and found that the material of the entire black iron mask had almost been changed, but under the translucent shell with an eerie light, it was not Esther's face that was revealed, but the points of light that changed with each breath she breathed.
If someone wants to get into trouble afterwards, more people will only notice the mask and the point of light, including the silver hair that is exposed.
But as soon as Esther had nimbly climbed over a fence and stepped on her toes somewhere in the Capping Garden, a loud bang came from the house.
"Boom!"
The flames danced wildly, leaping from the room, engulfing everything inside in an instant.
The exterior walls of the room were mostly crumbling, and window panes and rubble flew out of the bright firelight like the embers of fireworks.
Such a loud noise spread almost all over the street, and Esther's heart beat wildly, if such a good opportunity to save people is missed, then I don't know when it will be next time!
She glanced at the dining room from afar, and her vision blurred to a figure wearing a pitch-black crown wrapped in black armor, standing in the flickering firelight, like a king from time immemorial.
Esther whistled silently, and excitedly took advantage of the chaos to leap across the garden, heading straight for the nearest unclosed window.
No matter who this big guy who blew up the wall first, praise him!
Since the distribution of the manor buildings had been observed on the outside, and it was difficult to locate the detainees in terms of the area of the buildings on the ground, Esther had several guesses about the possible entrance to the dungeon, and planned to investigate it as soon as possible.
And her luck has always been strangely good, when Esther touched the vicinity of this passage, suddenly there was a gunshot from the ground, followed by a strange scream, and then a man fled out in panic, Esther almost instinctively spread out her right hand and made a grasping motion, and the posture of running forward instantly fell on her.
Esther ran towards the man, the dagger that had been at her waist came out of its sheath, and before the man could come to his senses, a cold light licked his throat.
Esther's mask suddenly lit up, invisible forces pulled each other, and several dancing filaments emerged from the man's body, and soon merged into the many points of light on Esther's mask, and were absorbed completely.
Wiping the blood from a dagger on the corner of the man's coat, Esther ran to the confirmed entrance to the dungeon, and was surprised to find that the lock had been broken.
Underground cell doors are opening abruptly, as if an invisible hand is pulling the door, returning freedom to the panicked girls inside.
Esther's sudden appearance at the door made the girls who had wanted to come out boldly stop in panic and look at the strange man in a bare-masked mask and a green cloak.
Esther tapped the mask's forehead, and several small flecks of light popped out of it, quickly converging into a band of light that led to the outside of the house, illuminating the path beneath the girls' feet.
She saw Penny's wary eyes as she subconsciously guarded the other two younger children, their exposed arms covered in bruises and whip marks.
"Go, under the choice of the heroes, and welcome your freedom."
Esther whispered, her voice coming through the light-spotted mask with a strange hum.
She bowed to everyone and spread her palms toward the light-gathering channel.
Penny's eyes widened suddenly, and she was the first to rush down the road, not forgetting to pull the two younger girls beside her.
With the first man, the others followed, and they ran out of the nightmare dungeon, and rushed out of the hall where the corpses were guarded on their stomachs, fleeing the shadowy house that burned in the crimson moonlight.
It was not until the street that the maidens dared to look back, and at the top of the house, a majestic figure covered in black armor and wearing a crown of black thorns overlooked it all, and the cloak behind him was swinging silently.
In the direction of the hall, the band of light continued to disintegrate into firefly-like points of light, completely dissolving into the air after the last girl ran down.
Another figure wrapped in a green cloak flashed through the hall.
Esther didn't leave immediately, but according to the layout of the house she had seen so far, she felt in the direction of Kaping's bedroom, despite the heat that was getting hot in the room.
To her surprise, she managed to find a few hidden compartments with cash, and swept them inside, glad that her satchel was still quite fit.
Esther then immediately left the path behind the garden of Caping House, her hunch warning that if she dragged on any longer, she would run head-on into the high-level powerhouse.
Circles continued to emerge from Esther's mask, creating invisible ripples, so that the connections on her body that could be detected were quickly swept away, ruling out any possibility of divination or tracking, and even the traces of touching behind her were quietly disappearing.
Of course, the gold pound in her pocket could not fly back.
Esther walked into another deserted alley, reversed her cloak, and took off her black iron mask in pain that tore through her flesh, and the light poured back into her hair.
Fingertips touched a few torn blood marks on her face, and Esther didn't know whether to regret the "ill-gotten gains" in her arms.
It's just a face exchange.
Because of the explosion and a group of young girls running out of Kaping Mansion, the nearby police officers and residents were at a loss, and Esther easily stole the memories of others seeing her, avoiding the eyes of others.
In this way, she took advantage of the special ability of the "dream stealer", and it took her nearly an hour to walk to another subway station far from Iris Street and catch the steam train back to the hotel.
Esther covered her face with a gray-black veil, plus a little exposed blood scar, which gave her a very plausible explanation for her mask - disfigurement.
But the wounds healed quickly, and after Esther slowly packed a bag of baked bean sandwiches and returned to the hotel by the Tasok River, she took off her veil and checked it again, by which time all that remained of the wound on her face was a scar, and even the blood scab had melted.
Esther finally breathed a sigh of relief and collapsed on the bed in pain, complaining in her heart that this ability to disguise her identity must not be used a second time, and it would be miserable if she could not recover.
She really didn't want to take that risk.
Xiao Wu was suppressed by the point of light, and was still in a deep state of isolation.
Esther scratched the edges of her scars, hoping that the marks would heal quickly enough, and that tomorrow she was going to go to Crane with the pile of gold pounds and ask him to help buy her extraordinary weapons.
You can't go with these scars, it will make your fellow villagers worry.
——
The next morning, just after dawn, Esther left her room in the hotel, simply found a nearby café and ate two slices of peanut butter bread, and then squeezed the morning subway to 15 Minsk Street.
Perhaps her bulging backpack was too conspicuous, and after stealing the movements and memories of the third thief, Esther kicked him hard in the calf, and then squeezed out of the carriage with the crowd and transferred to the public carriage to his destination.
Fortunately, she came early, otherwise Crane would have gone to the East End to do "detective disguise" later.
When his spiritual instinct was touched, Crane was still holding white bread smeared with jam in his mouth, and he was stunned with the new newspaper that had been delivered this morning, because the report said that someone had stolen all the contents of the Caping safe, as well as the cash.
Klein, who tossed all night yesterday, felt very innocent, as the "Black Emperor" himself, he obviously didn't take any belongings with him!
Crane put down the remaining half of the bread and stood up at the doorbell, and it was hard to say if he was surprised to see Esther.
After all, when he was acting in a spirit state last night, Crane saw a light man with a shiny face and a green cloak. Judging by the familiarity of the light, there would be no one else but Esther, who had sneaked to the Kaping Mansion.
Klein thought it was a little funny, and the two of them talked about planning again, but they coincidentally acted at night, and they bumped into each other so inexplicably.
He also picked up the traits of the Extraordinary who had been killed by Esther, and gained an extra Sequence 7 "Interrogator". Even before the official Extraordinaire arrived, Klein made a point of staying on the opposite side of Esther's departure, leaving her more time to leave the scene.
After bowing to a few officials, Crane completed the performance with great results, allowing the "magician" potion to get a lot of digestive feedback.
Thanks to the "obsessive-compulsive bow tie" that Esther lent, Klein was more free when fighting each other, that is, the two sides "forbad" each other, and the whole battle almost turned into a turn-based mouth cannon.
If it weren't for the fact that the "Black Emperor" was superior, Klein would have felt quite struggling.
But when Esther spread a large pile of gold pounds on Crane's table, the half slice of jam he had just put to his lips fell to the ground.
Luckily, Crane was quick to pick it up before it hit the ground.
He spread out the newspaper he was reading and pointed to one of the words: "So...... You stole all the contents of the safe? ”
Esther didn't have the ability to manage the expression of a "clown", and her face turned red quickly: "There is a way to steal and steal, I only took cash!" ”
Fellow, this is a double standard, isn't this still stealing...... Klein complained in his heart and retorted, "You might as well say that the thief doesn't go empty." ”
Although this sentence is said in the Rune language, it becomes a strange saying that "the thief can't leave empty-handed when he comes", but both people can understand the meaning of this statement.
Crane picked up the teapot with Xibe black tea and poured a cup for Esther: "Let me guess, you only found the cash safe?" ”
"yes, I loaded my bag and ran. Was last night's 'Black Emperor' really you? ”
Klein smiled and lied slightly, "It's someone I know." ”
"I see, then you have to help me thank him well, everyone has been rescued, and I have earned this money!"
How is the luck of the fellow always so good? I couldn't find a place to hide the cash. Crane sighed and took a sip from the teacup next to his mouth.
Esther grinned as she looked at the dozen gold pounds on the table, and shook her head happily:
"Gee, what do they say in the newspaper?" 'The Black Emperor' and 'The Smooth Female Thief'? Why is mine so ugly, what should it be called, this should be the bats and Robins of the capital of Beckland! ”
Klein choked on a sip of black tea and coughed violently.
