Chapter 121: The Day of Reciprocation
"A new day?"
Esther asked in disbelief, and the Pale Spike hung limply to the ground. The voices she had heard earlier had clearly indicated the end of the city, which was probably a nightmarish end for her.
Where's the new day?
Esther subconsciously took two more steps forward, almost tapping to the light curtain, trying to see more clearly the situation in the small town below.
The layout of the city is unruly, with only a few main roads crisscrossing the clearest.
Houses of various styles are scattered along the streets, and the building materials are not uniform from trees to stones, and most of them are not tall bungalows. The upper street is also interspersed with slatted vendors, and the lower street may be lined with a few twisted and stout giant trees, like aliens shoehorned into the middle of the gray and white stone houses.
Esther couldn't tell what the buildings were for, but she could see rings of thorns, olive branches, and garlands hanging from the streets, and almost all of the houses were hung with round dreamcatchers made of yellow feathers, black feathers, and white silk threads.
It is clear that there is some kind of custom in the city, or that the inhabitants of the city are preparing for some kind of holiday.
In the center of the city stands a black church with a bell tower, and in front of it is a square paved with gray stone bricks.
The one that caught Esther's attention the most was the top of the Clock Tower, where there was a huge nest of birds woven with long silver threads, and although separated by a curtain of light, Esther could sense that there was a gathering of light in the depths of the nest.
"What's in that lair?"
The crow kindly replied: "Of course there will be eggs in the nest, and there are quite a few of them." ”
Esther was silent, thinking that both the snake and the bird were oviparous, and she realized that the unhatched eggs in the nest might not have a fixed form.
"Raven's egg?"
"Hahaha, how is that possible." The crow laughed quite pleasantly.
"Bell-bell-"
The melodious sound of bells rang from below the lair, echoing throughout the small city.
Everything in front of Esther's eyes suddenly became dazzling, and as the crow had said before, "a new day", the day dawned.
When the morning bell rings, the dazzling sunlight pours down from the light curtain that closes off the outside world, holding up the only small city in the "God's Forsaken Land" that exists in the day and does not sink into the night.
Coming out of the darkness for a long time and seeing such a sunny town, it is easy to give birth to the illusion of "paradise".
"They'......" Esther reached for the light curtain, leaning over the impenetrable barrier, greedily gazing at the town below, barely able to see the swaying figures coming and going.
The raven chuckled twice, without giving any explanation, leaving Esther to watch the town go on with her own eyes.
Esther heard the subtle voices again, not calling, but all sorts of hearts, mixed together like a symphony without rhythm:
From complaining that you didn't wake up and want to get back under the covers, to hesitating about what to eat in the morning and what to eat in the evening, and wishing that time would slow down and be late soon, etc., are all extremely routine and insignificant.
She's listening to the city's residents.
As the sun rises, people are awakened by the sound of bells and step out of their homes and into the streets, smiling and greeting acquaintances and picking and choosing in front of the vendors......
A corner of trivial life, but Esther gave birth to a sense of trance, spanning an unknown number of years, these people's lives seemed to be not far from the ordinary people she saw in Tingen, even if their clothes, language and daily habits were completely different, but they lived a plain life so consistently.
In the midst of the jumbled voices, Esther noticed a phrase that was frequently repeated, "The Rite of Good Dreams."
This would explain the peculiar decorations on the streets and outside the houses.
Esther noticed that once someone leaves the area outside the aura, the moment the person or thing leaves the light curtain, they will turn into small fragments of light and shadow, and then dissolve directly on the light curtain.
But the rest of the people were unconscious, as if they had not seen it.
The young man with the wagon attached to the girl next to him, and with a smile and a smile drove the giant brown horse on, for they were getting closer and closer to the uphill place, and Esther could see the hopeful expressions on their faces.
The nearly two-man tall horse crashed into the curtain of light, shattering into a cloud of light, but the carriage continued to move forward.
Until the two smiling men and women, who were talking about returning to their hometown to see their parents, also disintegrated within an arm's length of Esther, and their bodies directly turned into bits of light, merging into this curtain of light that separated the inside and outside.
"What the hell is this?" Esther turned her head and stared at the crow.
The crow tilted his head innocently: "You can guess. ”
Esther had a vague guess, but one that she thought was odd. If there is such a town related to "Skylark" and "Zoya", why is there no record of it in Silver City?
Three rings, silver dreamcatchers, pale yellow feathers, but why are there black feathers?
Time continues to pass in the town, and the sunlight tied up outside of time gradually changes color and turns into a warmer dusk.
As the twilight turns from thick to dark, the residents of the towns gradually gather in the square, young and old, men, women and races, holding garlands made of olive branches as the main body, quietly waiting for something.
Esther was very suspicious that the two men wrapped in black cloaks were Blood, because the people next to her were careful not to step on their cloaks when they greeted them, as if they were afraid that they would show their faces and shine in the sun.
A black bird flew out of the nest at the top of the clock tower and landed on top of a boulder in the center of the square.
Esther could hear its mocking laughter almost from a distance.
Within minutes of darkness, Esther heard a call that was unusually clear, praying to the "light of fate".
No, not quite right......
"You have changed the direction of your prayers." Esther's hand outside the light curtain clenched.
The crow happily cocked its tail feathers and happily jumped around Esther, observing her indifferent expression, "Since it is something that can be stolen, of course you don't have to work hard to start from scratch!" Isn't that an interesting result? ”
Esther carefully discerned the voices that mingled in one place, and the prayers of each inhabitant were different:
Some people hope to get a good fortune and anxiously wait for their family members who have gone out of the city to hunt safely tomorrow, hoping that there will be no accidents;
The old man who coughed softly was full of thoughts, hoping to dream of his deceased lover, return to his youth in his sleep, and walk the streets again;
There was a pair of sisters who had never left the place since they were born, and they prayed in their dreams that they could go farther and see what the sea was like.
The young man with high spirits is full of enthusiasm, hoping that he can meet the opportunity to be recognized, become an extraordinary person like his grandfather, and follow the fire of the "Angel of War";
There are even people who simply follow the others to participate in the customs, and do not reverently hope that the sun will soon descend the mountain, that the ceremony will end as soon as possible, and that they will go to the tavern for a drink......
Everyone threw their braids in front of the boulder and sang an ode in the square.
It's just the melody of "Edelweiss" that makes it difficult for Esther to control her facial expression, and she can now be sure that "Zoya" has something to do with her original world.
Esther felt her thoughts blur in her head, and the sounds of prayer and singing seemed to surround her, giving her the illusion that she could touch their shoulders with her hand.
Esther looked at the quiet crow, "Here, Zoya's anchor?" ”
"This was originally a town that believed in the 'Angel of Destiny'." The raven replied with a plausible nonsense.
"How could Ulorius agree to you doing such a thing? You, Amon and Zoya, have stolen an entire town that believes in the 'Angel of Destiny!? ”
The crow narrowed his eyes: "Because the two are both the direction of 'fate', it is more convenient to combine similar concepts." How do you know that He did not acquiesce in such an action? ”
Esther closed her mouth and watched as the distant and tiny figures spread out of the square, like marbles poured out of a basin, "boneless" in all directions.
The night grew darker and thicker until the light from the windows of the house faded out.
"When this night comes, isn't it ......?"
"Yes, the sun never rose again, and you saw what happened after that."
Esther's lips trembled slightly, but she couldn't spit out the answer.
After that, it's a "new day".
The silence of the night was broken by a scream, and all the mutations began quietly from this moment.
Esther heard the voices of both sides at the same time, one was sometimes confused and sometimes awake, and its scaly body smashed through the stone wall to chase and kill the blood-stained people, while the other was panicked and constantly cried for help, running anxiously through the streets.
Several neighbors who heard the noise quickly arrived, and in a hurry, they could only wave their clothes sticks or brooms and surround the mutated monster.
An old man kicked out of the tree-like house and sprinkled seeds on the ground, the rapidly growing plants curling the monster into a ball.
Esther's brow furrowed more and more: "Amon, what happened that day?" ”
The raven didn't answer her question, her black eyes half-open, reflecting the glimmer of light emanating from the outer periphery of the seal.
The next moment, screams rang out from all over town.
Monsters of all shapes went berserk in the darkness, and the closest to them, the first to bear the brunt, were naturally the people who lived under the same roof as them.
It was the Extraordinary who quickly gathered and confronted them, who used the church in the center of the town as a stronghold and constantly organized people to fight against them.
These extraordinary beings were not large in number, but they were enough to be the backbone of the inhabitants in their despair, and Esther heard more and more prayers.
They prayed to the "light of fate", to the "angel of fate" and the "angel of time", and finally to the omniscient and all-powerful Creator.
Esther's voice began to boil from anguish and sorrow, to anger and fear, and finally to despair, as the number of "enemies" grew, and where there was no fire, the voices of the people began to fade away.
There was no response to the calls.
The light curtain became brighter, as if something invisible had crashed against it, blending into it and strengthening its essence.
All those who had lost their lives also began to mutate, and the corpses fell to the ground, and new monsters rose from the ground and pounced on the remnants of the crowd.
Esther knew what had happened that day.
A thunderbolt fell from the sky and struck the black church where the largest number of surviving inhabitants had gathered.
It withstood the first blow, only to collapse with a second bolt of lightning.
