Chapter 148: Tracking the Escapees
"Alright, now that this is done, we can go down to dinner, right?" Esther suggested.
Matteo got up from his chair, and he hadn't even sat down for two minutes: "You're leaving after eating?" β
"Well, I'll go back to my room and get my cloak first."
Esther lifted the restrictions on her room, went back to the house and retrieved her red cloak, then tossed the key to the next room to Vika.
"You give this to me, then I'll help you to the front desk tomorrow?"
"That's what it means." Esther, taking into account Vika's sometimes sluggish and sometimes sharp mind, specially reminded her, "If the lady at the front desk asks, don't tell her where I've been, after all, you don't know, just say it, and then sigh and shake your head." β
Vika nodded thoughtfully, and Matteo looked at Esther suspiciously, "Is there anything else going on that we don't know about?" β
Esther smiled and replied, "Then there are a lot of things you don't know, I don't know which one you are talking about?" β
"If you don't want to say it, forget it." Mattio paused, and asked uneasily, "You're not going to throw us to Olavi Island and disappear from the world, are you?" β
Esther shook her hand and pointed at Vika: "The money is his, let him cover your food and lodging." β
Vika turned his head with a depressed face: "Okay, I know......"
Matteo waved at Esther, "You know that's not what I'm asking. β
A few points of light fell from Esther's hair, crumbling around Matteo and Vika.
"What is this?" Vica curiously reached out to take it, but the tiny particles pierced his palm, like a non-existent apparition.
"A little bit of good luck." Esther whispered.
A few minutes later, she stepped out of the "Makai Hotel" alone, and the red cloak faded away in the dark night.
ββ
After walking a few streets, Esther casually stopped the passing taxi carriage and headed south to the block.
After the carriage drove for more than ten minutes, she motioned for the coachman to pull over and burrow into the alleys of several people's houses.
Esther walked into a dead end, next to a bustling tavern, and in the alley at the back door were empty crates and barrels, not much dust had settled on them, and it was obvious that someone was tidying up the unused items.
Esther just wanted the location of this remote spot, and it was good that no one would pass by too often.
She took out a thin paper figure from her satchel, and cut it so delicately that even if it was folded, she could see the tip of the hem of the paper figure's tuxedo and the arrogant posture of her hands on her waist.
The head of the paper figure is painted with a huge smiling face, exaggerated to the point of irony, echoing Banabe's signature smile.
This gives the impression that he is completely a paper figure cut in his own image.
Esther was noncommittal about such a narcissistic act, and she pointed out another piece of silver, and gathered the paper figure into her fist, and pressed the coin against her thumb, ready for the prelude of the "divination action".
She didn't plan to communicate with the spirit world for divination, which would be too easy to cause anomalies, and Esther decided to peek directly into the silver river of fate, she wanted to learn to overcome the trance feeling when she looked at the silver river.
If Zoya is limited in what she can do, Esther doesn't mind getting used to the "cheats" that Zoya can provide. It is precisely because she now has a thread that can hold herself, that Esther is more confident in this.
Esther gradually sank into a meditative state, and then flicked the coin:
"The closest future to the paper figure cutter."
The tide of the silver river swept away the coin, and it also led Esther's perception, and countless chaotic images slipped quickly, as if the flickering display screen was constantly switching between screens.
Until the scene of the waves crashing on the beach slowly covered the scene, becoming the subject of those chaotic messages.
A man in a dress is lying on a hammock on the beach with his feet crossed, clutching a skewer of grilled squid in his hand, shaking the hammock while making circles in the air with squid skewers, and his tuxedo looks very depressed with some charred black holes in the hem.
Suddenly, his movements stalled.
The coin fell to the ground, and the crashing sound of the "bell" rolled all the way away, shaking twice like a spinning wheel.
Esther opened her eyes, and a faint thread appeared in her mind to guide her in the direction she should go, and the beach was not far from here.
Two points of light fell from her sideburns and crumbled on the silver.
It won't be long before the people who find it happily pick it up, and it will be just a mediocre ordinary currency.
Even if Amon used a special connection to summon a doppelganger to track him, he could only track it to someone else, but Esther suspected that he might not necessarily do so.
Amon let her go because of what he had already done to me to troublesome Zoya?
Esther moved her fingers in the direction of the hunch in her mind.
She only walked for ten minutes before she saw the small beach.
Nearby, there was a fragrant tavern from which the smell of roasted food came out, and the noise of the tavern and the lights came through the windows, casting elongated squares on the night-covered floor.
Esther turned in the direction of her feet and walked towards the hammock by the beach.
The empty hammock is quite rudimentary, and at first glance it looks like the bed sheet that was being ripped off to dry by someone, and then the fishing net is twisted twice as a rope, and the two ends of the sheet are tied to the tall palm trees on the left and right, and the support is fixed.
Esther sat down on it without any burden, kicking her toes the ground, using the hammock as a swing and swaying back and forth.
She looked at the white buildings of Nath under the crimson half-moon, and only a dozen meters away there was a commotion in the tavern, and the sound of waves dancing in Esther's ears was heard in the distance.
If nothing else, that guy is very good at enjoying it.
ββ
The self-proclaimed "artist of life" has just stepped out of the tavern.
He didn't even disguise himself further, and still maintained his daytime appearance.
It was clear that he was quite satisfied with his image and did not bother to change it without anyone recognizing him.
Banabe, who carried a cumbersome backpack and a large bottle of red wine in his left hand and a whole handful of skewers in his right hand, was barely tucked between his fingers, and it took delicate control to catch everything from sausages and sardines to chunks of beef.
He was in a very good mood, and when he sat down in the hammock, he took a sip of wine and meat, and left behind the annoying and hard-mouthed ...... of the day for the time
"Wine with barbecue? Why not beer? β
Banabe stared at the woman who asked the question, her red cloak "rustling" in the sea breeze, and her smile warm and kind.
For the first time, Banabe had the idea of cursing his spiritual instincts, why was he completely unaware of the danger? What's even more annoying is that she actually occupied the hammock he built? If she shakes it hard, the net will fall apart!
"I really don't mean anything," Esther could see what Banabe was thinking without stealing, "I have some questions for you, and if you or the organization behind you can answer some questions for me, we might be able to make a deal." β
Banabe stood in place and was silent for two seconds, his air bullets and flame jumping abilities had been stolen by the other party, and he still hadn't recovered.
The stalemate is now worrying.
Biting off the cork of the red wine, Banabe poured himself two sips.
Just as Esther was quietly waiting for his consideration, suddenly, Banabe backhanded the bottle of wine in Esther's direction.
The liquor poured out of the bottle, spilling it on Esther, who was sitting in the hammock, and with a single grip, all the wine was stolen, and the empty bottle smashed under her feet.
Esther then made a second grip on Banabe, who ran reflexively.
Banabe, who had just raised his hand and was about to snap his fingers, only felt a lightness on his body and stopped in an instant.
His heavy backpack was gone.
Fuck the "thieves"! These thieves who can't steal anything but steal!
Banabe's face showed a moment of annoyance, but he only looked back at the woman who was carrying his backpack and still rocking the hammock back and forth, and he made up his mind.
"Thieves" cannot be trusted, and this is the first rule of dealing with them.
Banabe kept reminding herself that she couldn't be fooled by any information she showed on the surface.
He walked up to Esther, crossed his legs, sat down on the beach in front of the hammock, shared a grilled squid with his left hand and his right, and tore it hard.
Esther didn't make any other moves, just flipped the heavy backpack in her hand, guessing that it contained all of Banabe's "possessions", including materials for promotion.
The "Thief" is an effective way to enhance her ability to detect the value of her items, but Esther rarely really takes advantage of this.
"I should have punched you, and you blatantly set fire to it." Esther smiled and shook the backpack in her hand, noticing Banabe's nervous and reluctant gaze falling on her hand.
Banabe had a cold face, a squid whisker hanging from his mouth, and he chewed without grace and said, "Do you still care about that?" The guy who makes a living from 'stealing' still has a moral heart? β
"Why can't there be?"
"Don't pretend to be stupid, maybe you're already a demigod, it's impossible not to know the shortcut to digesting potions." Banabe quickly nibbled up the grilled squid, thrust the bare stick into the nearby sand, and stretched out his hand at Esther, "You should give me wine." β
"You just wanted to take advantage of me to snatch the wine bottle and set me on fire, enough alcohol can cause an explosion, you have a complicated mind, how could you not think of this."
"You're complimenting me on being smart? I think so too. β
Esther found it a bit difficult to answer, she leaned over and picked up the bottle from the ground, returned the stolen wine to the bottle, and tossed it to Barnabe: "Normally, shouldn't you add an extra 'thank you'?" β
Banabe grabbed the bottle, wiped the sand from the mouth of the bottle, clicked his fingertips on the wall of the bottle three times, glanced at Esther, quickly looked away, and repeated the action again:
"But I'm already smart, why should I thank you?"
Esther's covert label of "high intelligence" was twisted and replaced with "narcissist". Even if you have an idea in your heart, normal people will not say it so openly, it's too arrogant......
As Banabe poured two more sips of wine, Esther placed his backpack in the hammock: "Are you a member of the Esoteric Order?" β
Banabe immediately put down the bottle and responded in an exaggerated tone, "Noβyes." β
Esther's eyes moved slightly, realizing that Banabe had admitted it in disguise, but for the sake of secrecy or even life-saving, he would not directly convey any superficial information.
Banabe saw Esther nod slightly, knowing that she understood what he meant, he took another bite of roast beef, and asked rhetorically not to be taken advantage of, "What about you?" Are you from the House of Amun? β
"No, I had a holiday with Him." Esther shook her head in annoyance.
Banabe didn't bother to discern the other's body language, and the "thieves" were not trustworthy: "Jacob's family?" As far as I know, no one has seen the Zoroasters for many years. β
"Why can't I be a wild 'thief'?"
