Chapter 208: Escape

Esther walked out of the bat-filled room and found herself on another corridor.

There was no red carpet here, the gray stone bricks exuded an icy chill and hoarfrost on them, and although Esther did not suffer frostbite from the temperature, she still felt chills all over her body.

Torches were lit in the corridor, and the torch Ester was holding had been extinguished, and she tried to relight it with other torches, but to no avail.

Esther tossed the extinguished torch against the wall and walked along the path that was not blocked by the collapsed stones, the bat still clinging to her hind legs, and Esther felt the slight rip in her pants.

She tries to grab the bat, but as soon as her hand gets closer, the bat squeaks in panic, as if in fear of being thrown away.

Esther had to give up the idea of letting it come down for the time being, and had to wait until she left here to find a tailor.

She turned through another hallway blocked by boulders and past a narrow, dusty utility room.

As Esther investigates a large tank, the stinky black water inside suddenly tumbles, but fortunately she dodges quickly to avoid being splashed, and soon, a black ball of seaweed twists and crawls out of it, burrowing into a rat hole in the corner.

Esther left the utility room and walked down the cold corridor for a moment, when suddenly the walls shook violently, and a mournful roar came from the ground, almost blowing the entire castle away.

Subconsciously, Esther guessed that Benjamin had done something to cause the hostility of the castle, and it was hard to imagine that the roar was made by the delicate and beautiful Marquis of Kailar.

Urged by some instinct, Esther began to run down the hallway, and she pulled the bat off her trouser leg and stuffed it into her pocket, ignoring the bat's resistance.

The "squeak" of the bat's scream was muffled by the incessant roar, and Esther did not use the stealing distance to displace, but simply increased the speed of her steps. She had an inexplicable premonition that once she used the power of the "thief", she would immediately face an even stronger hostility towards the castle.

Now the anger is all directed at Benjamin, and I don't know if he can hold it......

Running around the corner, Esther saw another staircase, spiraling upward, not knowing where it led.

The tower shook less violently than the castle itself, and the moment Esther made this judgment, she had already taken three steps and two steps, and climbed up the staircase to the tower.

The vibration of the castle gradually stopped, but the roar grew louder and louder, with a sharp penetrating force, almost as if it was attached to the back of a person.

The bat in Esther's pocket didn't move, but poked its head out to catch its breath, and it turned its head in confusion to survey its surroundings.

The staircase of the tower seemed to have no end, and the roar from the bottom of the castle was less frequent, but the pain and resentment were becoming more and more apparent, and Esther could not help but worry about Benjamin's situation.

What's going on? What Benjamin stole was important to the Marquis of Kailar?

Finally climbing to the top of the tower, Esther didn't hesitate to raise her hand and push towards the door, if the door was locked, she would have to find another way out, or ignore Benjamin's reminder and break the lock to enter the place.

To Esther's surprise, however, there was no lock on the door.

The tower was littered with brass telescopes and shattered crystal balls, fragments scattered like withered petals, crimson from the moonlight, and chairs with broken legs and crumbling desks in the corners.

The room seemed to be set up for stargazing, so there was a rather large hole in the wall, and there was a man sitting on the side of the hole in the wall where you could see the starry sky.

The man was carrying a crystal ball slightly larger than a fist, and in the crystal ball was a swirling purple swirl.

Curly black hair cast a shadow on the broad forehead, and even when sitting at the edge of the hole, the traditional black robe of the soothsayer was spotless, as his back to the moonlight and the tipped soft hat on his head drew shadows on the ground, almost touching the tips of Esther's feet.

The monocle in the young man's right eye lit up slightly, and his smile deepened: "Surprised?"

"It's frightening," Esther took a deep breath, soothing her wildly beating heart, her mind almost stalled for a moment, "but you're just a doppelganger, and that's the real surprise."

"You can tell the difference between us and the Being?" The young man looked a little surprised, "It's a pity that we are all Amun, and there is no difference in essence."

Esther sneered, ignoring the words, pinning her left hand behind her back and taking out the brass compass.

Esther's small movements could not escape the young man's perception, but he didn't care.

The young man seemed to be in the mood for casual chat, and he slowly turned the crystal ball in his hand, staring at the purple swirls that kept swaying from the halo inside:

"There are two most precious things in this castle, the same is the necklace that the Marquis was given by the Queen of the Blood Moon, and the sapphire necklace can unleash the ultimate power of the Creator once, so that the spirit that is on the verge of collapse can be condensed, and another physical body can be reborn.

"This rebirth involves the occult level, which allows a person to completely break free from the past, and after embracing the essence of life, enter a state of weakness, from everything that was before."

The young man raised his head and winked at Esther, "Benjamin wants to get rid of his identity, if you know what I mean, but that kind of thing is of little use to you now."

Esther sensed the lie in the young man's words, but she couldn't tell exactly which one, and she asked softly, "So the other thing is what you're holding?" The crystal ball?"

The smile on the black-haired youth's face remained unchanged, and he raised the crystal ball in Esther's direction, blocking it in front of his right eye: "Even if I ask you to guess, you probably won't be able to guess what it is for, whether it is the night or Zoya, it is intended to keep you away from the deeper occult knowledge, so that Esther will 'live' in an ignorant and stupid state."

"That's not malice, for the extraordinary world, knowledge is ......"

"Yes, knowledge is also a pollution," Amun's clone interrupted Esther, who stood up from the edge of the cave and took a step in Esther's direction, "Don't you want to know? Aren't you curious?"

He pointed the crystal ball in his hand in Esther's direction, as if he was about to hand it over, "Zoya's person is strong enough to resist any contamination of knowledge, but why did you appear to him, and why did you do it?"

Esther slowly took a half step back in the direction of the door, "Your questions don't make sense, I already know to restrain my curiosity. I can do nothing before the true God, including before your being."

Even if it was a lie that was intertwined with truth and falsehood, she couldn't see it clearly.

The young man withdrew his arm: "This crystal ball can hold the ritual of summoning the purple light of the spirit world, and it can steadily maintain communication for less than ten minutes, so that anyone can communicate with the seven lights that are the friendliest and most knowledgeable in the spirit world, and they will definitely be happy to answer 'your question.'"

The accent in which he spoke made Esther feel very uncomfortable.

"So?" Esther was not as calm as she seemed, she understood the meaning of this doppelganger, since she did not believe in Amon, then a more "neutral" third party could completely answer many of her doubts, and it was more credible.

"Nothing, so. As you can see, Benjamin has chosen himself between him and you," the young man suddenly flipped his palm, and the crystal ball disappeared in an instant, "I just took this opportunity to take what we have always wanted."

Instead, Esther calmed down: "If you just want me to be upset with Benjamin, then you're talking too much...... I trust him."

The smile on the young man's face faded, and he took a step back, appearing directly at the edge of the hole, threatening to fall at any moment.

He looked at Esther's dark eyes, which seemed to hide some more complicated East XZ beneath a superficial smile: "Really? I hope you don't regret it, trust is something lighter than a feather."

"I'm more in tune with fate, and I have no regrets."

Esther said this, and suddenly she felt something close behind her, and some kind of shadow stopped behind her. Someone put their hands on the compass she pinned behind her back, trying to take the heavy base from the palm of her hand.

The third hand is spinning wildly.

"Esther, it's me."

After hearing that it was Benjamin's voice, the instinct that had just settled down gave further confirmation. Esther then stopped turning her back, let go of her hand, and let Benjamin take the compass from her.

Benjamin stood behind Esther, quietly looking at the doppelganger by the window, and the corners of his mouth gradually curled up from an angle that Esther could not observe in detail.

The black-haired young man looked at the smile that was exactly the same as his own, and seemed to think about it for a few seconds before nodding in the direction of the two: "I took the things, I don't want to let go of such a good opportunity, after all, the task is here...... But I also have a hunch that it won't be long before we meet again. We're all looking forward to it, Ben."

"It's better never to see you again." The smile on Benjamin's face was elegant but false.

The black-haired young man held up a finger and pressed it to his lips: "That's impossible, you have the most chaotic things with you, everyone will be curious. And you, now make us curious."

He gave Esther one last look, "Zoya incarnate, your trust was wrong from the beginning."

Esther didn't say a word, just looked coldly at the figure at the entrance of the cave.

The young man jumped back, the corners of his black robe curled, and a crow with a white circle in his right eye flew into the night sky, away from the strange castle.

"It's time for us to go, too." Benjamin whispered, walking towards the hole, his face with discs that seemed to be crooked.

Esther walked up to him and looked down from the hole, "We...... Do you want to fly straight down from here?"

Her gaze swept over the lens in front of Benjamin's right eye, and a deep blackness did not completely fade, passing under Benjamin's eye.

Benjamin was still bothered by the words of the doppelganger, and did not notice Esther's hidden hesitation.

He put away the compass with only two hands left in his hand, stepped on the edge of the window, and held out his hand to Esther, "It just so happens that he left a special passage so that we don't have to go to the antechamber to bear the marquis's wrath. We left immediately, not as an invitation, but as planned."

Esther's eyes moved slightly, and she didn't say anything, just took his outstretched hand.
