Chapter 25: The Guiding Squad
Esther tentatively mentioned Medici, more because she wanted to know more about the details from Amon, but Raven had no desire to "share the past", so she could only dismiss this idea.
"It's just out of concern for Medici," Esther felt compelled to tell Amun, even with his power, he could guess her thoughts just thinking about it, "I'm not trying to blame you for anything, I know it was a very chaotic time, and your situation was the same, I just don't understand why things have come to this point."
The raven's eyes rolled, not listening intently to Esther's words, as if he was being distracted by something else: "Even if he is alive, he will only be an evil spirit, and he will always have good luck."
"It's not a bad thing," Esther's eyes darkened a lot, "Now that I think about it, Ulorius should have seen this result a long time ago."
The crow sat down and leaned lazily against Esther's neck, still looking absent-minded, "That madman should know that your cloak fell into Medici's hands, is it really a coincidence?"
"Fate will give its own answer." Esther said firmly.
The raven seemed to come back to its senses because of this sentence, and it sighed and shook its head at the answer that it was all too familiar with and had heard many times, "It's really boring, you're still the same."
"yes, just like all Amon clones think they're Amun, I'm the 'old self,' you have to understand that."
The crow ignored her at all - was that some kind of improvement over another blunt mocking me for being brainless or disgusting? Esther couldn't help but muttered to herself.
Soon, however, Esther lost the idea of small talk, and her spirituality was touched, although the source was not a strong sense of crisis, but a creature hostile to her.
Oh, and that hostility wasn't directed at her, but ......
"Help, help! Help—is there anyone there?"
"Gulick! Where the hell are you, Gulick!?"
"He must have been eaten! Hurry up and don't look back!"
"Iron-slammed! My flame is useless!"
"Don't go near that monster! Let's run straight back to the city!"
The cacophony of noises, the sound of panicked footsteps, and the constant panting for help were getting closer and closer in Esther's direction.
Esther clenched the sword in her hand, her eyes lit up with the condensed battle intent, but she soon realized that it was not her own desire to fight, but the genuine excitement of the sword in her hand.
It seems that the descendants of that legion do not know how many generations have passed, and there are few opportunities to actually fight.
Esther threw the woven bag on the ground, and before she could grab it, the crow had already consciously flown to the ground and landed on top of the bag.
Esther smiled at the crow, "Looks like we're really close to that city."
"What are you excited about?"
"I don't know, I'm just curious about what kind of residents I'll meet. When I save them, I want to visit their city, shouldn't it be too much?"
"They're just going to treat you like a monster."
Hearing this, Esther was a little puzzled, "Why?"
Raven didn't answer, but her doubts were quickly solved.
A bright red fireball continued to float forward, and the three "people" gathered around the firelight and followed the fireball also quickly emerged from behind the shadowy woods. As they fled forward in disarray, they remained in a steady triangular formation, seemingly trained accordingly.
It was clear that they were trying to dodge something chasing after them.
These survivors are all wearing "iron suits" spliced together with red hard sheets, each of which looks tailor-made, because their bodies are different, but the "iron suit" takes into account the appearance of each person:
The leader was a tall and thin man, at least two meters tall, only he was not wearing a helmet at all, but the face that was exposed was only a bright red eye that seemed to be burning with flames, and his hair was the same as an inch long
It's fiery red, but only a very sparse layer sticks to the top of the head.
The leader wielded two hammers in his hands, and every now and then he would smash them together heavily, and the flames in front of him would grow stronger with the crisp sound of impact, and at the same time fly faster, dispelling the darkness of their surroundings that was extremely dangerous to them.
One of the leaders was so big that he was almost as big as two or three people, and he looked like a giant red bear. When this man ran, he also landed directly on all fours, and Esther could see his strong fists exposed under his "iron suit", constantly hammering on the ground, making a loud sound like a drum, which was a good reminder to any nearby monster that someone was trying to escape for their lives.
The other seemed to be a lady to her voice, and her figure seemed to be only a head taller than Esther's, closer to the realm of ordinary people. But when the lady walked, one foot deep and one foot shallow, it was obvious that she had some problems with her legs and feet, but judging by her unusual agility when she ran, she was not much slower than the other two.
The three strange men fled all the way, and they were heading in the same direction as Esther.
The leader was the first to notice a different color on the side of the road, although he didn't see whether it was a "person" or something else standing there, but he sensed the long sword that belonged to Gulik, so he subconsciously shouted forward:
"Don't stand still, run! No one can beat that lava lizard! We'll continue looking for Gulick later!"
"Shut up Zora, that's not from the city! That could be—"
The woman's shrill voice stopped abruptly, for her eyesight was much sharper than the other two, and she saw the stranger on the other side, and felt a little familiarity, and the man's eyes were peaceful, not like there was any sign of madness, and her clothes, which were quite similar to the prayer garments of some elders.
She originally wanted to say that the person in front of her might be some kind of monster, and Gulik must have been killed by the other party, but after seeing the other party's face clearly, this inference no longer seems to hold.
Another excitement came out of the lame lady's heart, could it be that the other party was from another town? Are there really other towns here that live in the same darkness as they do?
But the lady's teammates, apparently not as much as she had thought, and the bear-sized, running on all fours, shouted, "Yes, it could be some kind of monster!"
"I knew I shouldn't care about that scrap metal! Iron slag! Get out of the way!"
The red-haired, one-eyed youth roared angrily and slammed the hammer together, and the fireball levitating in front of him suddenly turned white, slamming into the "man" with Gulik's sword.
However, the dark shadow let out only a laughing sigh, and as she blinked her pale eyes, the blazing fire suddenly disappeared into the air.
Darkness descended on the trio, making their breaths tremble with despair.
After all, darkness means vanishing, mutating, and dying here.
