Chapter Forty-Eight: Down or Up
The claw knife has a lot of hair, which not only makes it feel weird to hold it, but also seriously affects Esther's use of it, because the long stiff hair of the grip hangs down, obscuring the sharp blade at the front end.
Esther held the handle of the knife in her right hand and held it in her left hand, holding all the hairs that Logan's Claw had accumulated for months in the palm of her hand: "I almost forgot that this thing still grows hair, don't you care about it at all?" I'm pretty sure you have a way to suppress the negative effects. β
And the crow's retort left Esther speechless, "Why should I help you maintain extraordinary items?" Again, it's useless. β
However, Esther quickly blocked this sentence back from another angle: "I knew that my things were really in you!" β
The crow's eyes rolled: "Yes, it's me." When you can give me back an extraordinary trait of equal value to the 'deception teacher', I will consider giving you back that garbage. Wouldn't I be at a loss? β
"You've said it's 'rubbish,'" Esther muttered hatefully, "can't you just give it to me?" β
Cach kindly "reminded" beside him: "There is also an extraordinary trait of 'Parasite' and 'Dream Stealer'. β
"Youβ" Esther chuckled her head and sighed heavily, not saying anything.
"I can trade you for other extraordinary traits." The crow laughed, "Like 'monsters'? β
"Really!?" Esther was happy at first, and then quickly reacted to the text trap in it, "No, you mean the extraordinary characteristics of the 'monster' of Sequence 9...... Isn't this a good deal for you? β
"It's a shame that you weren't fooled." Caher shook her head with a sigh and looked at her rather genuine expression, as if Esther had missed out on some sky-high deal.
Esther rubbed off the last bit of fluff on the outside of the claw, ran her fingers through the hole in the grip, flipped back and forth twice, and quickly regained the feeling of using it: "I'm not that stupid. β
"Who knows? Try it and don't lose money. Caher raised an eyebrow, not optimistic about Esther's overly simple plan, "You want to break through the divided space directly?" β
"You don't help find the back door." When Esther said this, there was always a resentment that she couldn't suppress.
She didn't wait for Kach or the crow to speak, but simply stretched her claw knife to the ground, and carved circle after circle of symbols on the ground. The crow quickly parsed the direction of the figures, some of which were used to communicate with the spirit world, and the other part had a more direct effect of "destruction".
It wasn't until Esther had finished drawing the central symbol that the crow looked at the familiar pattern and couldn't help but say, "This is not a symbol of the 'Source Castle', and I have to admit that my expectations have been disappointed." But is it any effect that you are praying to yourself here? β
"I don't know, so we'll have to see what the hell that will do."
Asther said mysteriously, not expecting to be able to sell in front of the crow, she gently twisted her index finger with her fingernail, and a drop of red mixed with silver turbulent blood gradually oozed from Esther's fingertips and dripped onto the ground.
A second, two seconds, a dozen seconds passed, and nothing happened.
It was still quiet, and Esther stared at the symbol on the ground, and touched her fingertips in silence:
"Is it because I omitted a certain step that I still have to pray to myself?"
Kach abruptly answered Esther's question, "No, it's because there are other rules. β
Before he could finish his words, the ground suddenly shook, and a soft light bloomed from Esther's blood-dripping circle, turning into a constantly rotating broken wheel in the air, emitting an extremely twisted and piercing hum, almost a group of screaming wraiths.
The shaking of the ground was getting stronger and stronger, and the violent jolting sensation even gave Esther the illusion that she was being stuffed into a wok, as if she was about to be lifted at any time - when Esther wanted to kick to the ground and float upwards with her strength, Caher suddenly grabbed her shoulders and made Esther stand firmly on the ground with her.
Esther didn't struggle either, she had already guessed that Caher knew very well how to get into the world deep underground, and was just happy to watch her headless fly spin around and do useless work here.
Is it really useless?
In the next second, unsurprisingly, Esther's strange premonition came true.
First there was a distant roar, and then as the voice got closer, it became clear what was happening:
Within the scope of a regular square, one piece of ground begins to turn upside down and warp, like a huge chessboard, one grid follows the other, directly from below and upwards, kicking up a large cloud of dust while completely turning the upper and lower layers of "ground" upside down.
Esther watched all this happen calmly, and even had the heart to say to Kach, "Seriously, I don't think I can be blamed for this, this place is too problematic." β
As the plot flipped faster and faster, and finally approached the edge of the square earth, the ground under Esther's feet also tilted, and the angle became higher and higher, from barely standing to almost completely vertical, and then lifted it completely.
In this process, Esther and KΓ€rcher, who were originally standing on it, stabilized their bodies by "cheating" the laws of conventional physics, and the two of them squatted down in unison to better get close to the ground.
From below to above, another layer of deeper space is revealed.
This time, the place where the light came out was overhead, and Esther looked up and saw a cloud that radiated a golden glow, whether or not it had the effect of real sunlight, at least here they replaced the sun, giving off a little warm light.
From a distance, it looks as if a floating ball of gold is spread out in the sky, creating a very visual contrast with the black earth beneath your feet.
Esther quickly became aware of the strangeness of her surroundings: "The proportions of the space here don't seem to be normal......"
"Yes, each layer will be narrower than the last," Cach said casually, smiling and nodding his monocle, "If you're curious, you can walk around the edge a little more and measure the extent of this place with your foot." β
Esther glanced back at the square edge of the right-angled plot behind her, and the invisible black barrier on the periphery still gave her a very dangerous feeling, and immediately shook her head: "No, I'm not that boring." β
She looked up at the clouds in the sky again, and soon noticed that there were small black dots moving back and forth in the place where the golden light was emitting: "There seems to be something in the sky?" β
The crow on Esther's shoulder yawned lazily, "So? What are you going to do? β
"Of course we have to go up and have a look, we are down now, so we should keep going up......," Esther hesitated, always feeling that it was very ridiculous as soon as she said it.
"Let's go, then."
Cach's black boots lightly touched the ground like soap bubbles, and flew lightly into the sky.
Or should this be considered a fall?
Esther began to be confused because she couldn't tell the difference.
She kicked the ground hard and flew into the air, barely feeling any drag - and it was then that Esther realized that Kach had not "cheated" the laws of nature, or rather, physics no longer existed.
Esther adjusted the direction of her body, and just gently swiped her hand through the air, driving her body up a lot higher, almost similar to the experience of flying.
She took control of her direction and caught up with Cach, who was also rising: "There really doesn't make sense in this place!" β
"No, there are so many rules in this place, you'll know when the time comes."
Caher pointed to the thick golden clouds above the two men, and after getting some distance closer, Esther was finally able to see the black dots in the shuttle.
To her disappointment, the moving objects didn't look like "humans" but like black or white stone statues, reminding her of the upside-down ground and its regular squares.
"We're not going to play chess here, are we?"
The crow closed her eyes: "I really don't understand what is in your head sometimes. β
