Chapter Seventy-One: The Lord of the Night
The lady beside the bed also stood up, her movements very gently, as if she were afraid of waking someone from her sleep.
Under the black veil came a voice familiar to Esther: "Long time no see."
Esther hesitated for a moment, trying to remember where she had heard the voice, but she couldn't find a clear person, and she decided to follow the other man's words for the time being: "Well, hello, we met before...... Really?"
"Yes." The voice of the lady wrapped in black veil was cold, and she stopped on the ground not far from the bed, but the layers of black veil on her body became tighter and tighter, and became thick with the movement of her steps.
Esther confirmed again - there were no feet under the hem of the other party's skirt, and although she didn't know if this kind of ghost story rule should be applied here, Esther was sure that this lady would not be human no matter how she looked at it, at least definitely not an ordinary extraordinary.
Esther pondered her words, trying to make herself appear more polite, she didn't want anything to irritate the strange lady, "When, please?"
"A long time ago," the woman said, raising her hands and reaching for the veil that covered her face, "and that was really, a long time ago."
When Esther saw the other party's face clearly, she subconsciously took half a step back, and clenched the short sword in her hand with her backhand, but she didn't raise it: "You are...... I've seen you in Beckland."
The appearance in front of her was familiar to Esther because she had seen each other in Beckland, and in that great haze, she, or rather the goddess of the night, had "hidden" the witch who was there to spread the plague.
But in this kind of place, seeing this quiet and beautiful face again, Esther's mind was somewhat blocked, but the feeling that the other party gave her was completely different from that of the goddess of the night - this made Esther's previous speculation completely frustrated, she originally thought that this would be some seal left by the goddess of the night, maybe it was a gramophone driven by extraordinary power, but she never expected that she would really see a familiar "person".
The last time I saw each other, it was the goddess of the night's divine descent vessel.
Because of the black veil, Esther couldn't even tell if the other was a living creature, shaped into a human form, or some kind of restrained spirit—though she preferred the latter.
Of course, Esther can also open the special perspective of the spiritual vision and directly spy on the fate of the other party, but she is not going to risk losing her sight for a moment here, it is too unsafe.
The lady on the other side was calm and indifferent, she just looked at Esther quietly for a moment, and then slowly shook her head.
Her movements were always gentle, avoiding the black veil around her from being pulled by herself: "No, I don't know. What you see should be my body."
"And where did you see me?"
"You've always been with you, but I didn't know until later."
The vanishing name violently shook the black veil around her, as if setting off an invisible gust of wind, and the lady quickly withdrew her hands, allowing her face to be covered behind the layers of obscuration.
Such a change made Esther instantly understand who the other party's name was, which was probably the real name of the goddess of the night.
The lady recoiled and sat back down on the edge of the bed where she had been in her place: "You are the reason why He has always been able to maintain a stable 'humanity'?"
"Well, so to speak......" Esther looked at the lady without knowing where to speak.
Although the other party did not cast his gaze here, he seemed to sense Esther's embarrassment, and his voice gradually lowered: "After my body died, my spirit changed in a different way, I don't know why He did it, but He shared something with me."
Esther took two steps into the middle of the room, avoiding a circle of black veils stacked on the floor, "I'm curious, what's going on?"
The woman was silent for a while, raised the palm covered by the cuffs, and covered her forehead, those black veils danced gently like ocean waves, and the quiet and peaceful night appeared behind the woman, but
It quickly dissipated again.
"I don't know if you're familiar with the story of the 'Creator'."
"I'm familiar with it."
"And among the angels around him, the 'dark angels,' also known as halfbodies."
Esther's brow immediately furrowed, as if someone had just squeezed a whole sour lemon into her mouth, "So you're more than just ...... now."
"He sees me as a 'backup plan,' a term I also know from what He shares. And for me, I am not Him, and I still consider myself to be the 'Mother of Heaven'."
Such a gentle and firm voice came from under the black veil, so that Esther didn't know how to respond for a moment - the goddess of the night would do such a thing, Esther was not surprised, and Amon did not want to come in here, Esther seemed to have found it.
The awkward silence lasted for a moment, and Esther shook her head blankly and slowly retreated to the window, "Sorry to bother you, if this is the city he asked you to care for......."
The lady didn't shake her head, but expressed her feelings with a gentle wave of her hand, "No, the city existed long before I came here, and I just replaced the last overly tired caretaker."
Esther began to stare at her again, always feeling that there was something she had missed, "I would venture to ask, do you only have spirits now?"
"Because my body is in the place you said is called 'Beckland'."
"No, no, I didn't mean that!" Esther hurriedly explained.
There was a low chuckle from under the veil, which made Esther realize that it was a deliberate joke, even if it was a little too dark.
Esther's confusion intensified: "Your humanity seems to be ......."
The woman's hand reached into the depths of the black veil that shrouded her, as if groping for something: "You can also see that my humanity is too strong to match my state, does it?"
"Yes." Esther nodded, her spiritual instincts suddenly touched, and her gaze immediately fell on the lady's hand.
From the overlapping black veil, the lady pulled out a thumb-length crystal, and as the outer layer was retracted, the tiny light condensed in the crystal began to flicker and fluctuate, allowing Esther to hear a vague call instantly.
"Okay, that's His verification of the 'anchor'?"
"More than that, the sleeping inhabitants of this city are my 'anchors', and I can use them to shape the dreams that accommodate them all."
Esther smiled helplessly, "It's weird, I can't dream...... I didn't even know they were capable of that."
Under Esther's reluctant gaze, the lady tucked the crystal back into the black veil, isolating Esther's sense of it.
Esther resisted the thought of getting the crystal back, and raised her foot again to walk to the window.
The lady's voice rang out, "So, do you need my help?"
