Volume II, Chapter 45
After dinner, the head of the logistics regiment came to me and told me that the shelves were all ready and had been placed neatly on the playground.
"Staff, you can run," I said to Carlos, "and the whole army will gather to see the Judge Advocate General's show!"
The soldiers, who had just had dinner, began to line up on the playground in regimental units under the leadership of their commanders. The commanders walked in the queue to correct the incorrect posture of the soldiers, but the soldiers looked at the wooden frame in amazement, not knowing what it was for.
The officers of the Judge Advocate General's Office are making final preparations and, as I have taught, are checking the identities of the prisoners one by one. Soldiers of the law enforcement regiment stood around the playground, holding torches aloft.
When the time was almost up, I appeared with the officers and men of the regimental headquarters, received the most solemn and messy salute of my life, and then stood on the viewing platform.
"Soldiers of the Ninth Legion, my name is Cohen Al Kerda, and I am your commander. As I spoke, two elven officers were using magic to make my voice audible, "Since yesterday, I have been taking care of you eating, sleeping, and drinking! β
"But this father is not easy to be! Since noon today, people have been coming to complain...... To be honest, it makes me lose face. I'm upset because some of them are fucking ruining the reputation of the Ninth Legion!" After a pause, I continued, "I don't have much to say about these people, I'll leave it all to Lieutenant Colonel Jack!"
As soon as I pushed the matter over Jack's head, I sat down on the viewing platform.
"I'm Judge Gun, and my name is Jack. It doesn't matter if you're a soldier or an officer. As long as you do something stupid, I'll ask you to talk. "Jack stood in the place where I had just spoken. "Today, some of the people arrested by the Judge Advocate General's Office. Among these people are officers and soldiers, there are those who steal chickens and dogs, and there are those who do not pay for food...... Now, I will announce their punishment!"
After a brief opening statement, Jack pulled out a list and began to read it, and with each name he read, the soldiers of the three law enforcement regiments dragged a man out of the corner of the playground. Drag it all the way to the shelf, strip off your clothes and tie them up.
As soon as I saw how they picked up their clothes, I knew that Jack had taught them the trick of picking up "bare pigs".
There are more than 120 unlucky people in total, and most of them are soldiers, which does not mean that the former officers did not do bad things, most of them committed serious crimes and will not appear today.
"These are the people!" Jack finally finished reading the list, "there is nothing to say about the facts, all of them are punished with fifty lashes!"
More than 100 hands holding leather whips were raised high, and the tips of the whips shook in the air, whistling on the prisoner's buttocks with a whistling sound! The prisoner's ass immediately cracked open, and the screams rang out at the same time.
"One, two, three......" the soldiers of the law enforcement regiment counted.
Let's be honest. I don't appreciate the bloody scenes, and I don't think the screams are pleasant. But I do need to do this, and I want to show the soldiers of the Ninth Legion that I am in power and ask them to come to my side.
I don't think ordinary soldiers will have any resentment against me, these beaten fellows are almost all soldiers, they are slaves themselves, but they are very close to the officers sent by the Divine Palace. Since they have done bad things in the town, they will naturally bully the other soldiers around them.
The soldiers in the queue were quietly watching, watching these "red men" who usually followed the officers being whipped, and I knew that they must have some thoughts in their hearts, but they would not show them for a moment.
Under the neat command, the fifty whips were quickly finished, and the beaten people were scarred and bloodstained. Some are crying loudly, and some are incontinent......
"Fifty whips, that's just a small punishment!" exclaimed Jack, "if I do it again next time, I'll have something more fun here, I promise you haven't seen it." β
I walked off the stage with a smile and turned back to Jack and said, "Don't let them down yet, let the soldiers take a closer look!"
After letting their respective soldiers see the plight of these people, the officers led the soldiers back to their tents. I know that they will appease the soldiers in their own way and take the opportunity to preach military law. Governing the army has always required one soft and one hard, so soft that soldiers will die because of the kindness of the generals, but this takes time. It's as simple as making soldiers fear their generals far more than the enemy.
From the next morning, more residents came to the camp to complain, and the accusations were much stricter. Some residents dragged a large group of witnesses, some carried the wounded on stretchers, and some held portraits...... Basically, everyone in the town had a share, and the Judge Advocate General's Office was so busy that I had to pull people from elsewhere to help.
I had been in the tent all morning looking through official documents, and I didn't go directly to help Jack in order to exercise him. Jack would come to me if he had a problem that he couldn't solve, and he had already come to me a dozen times in one morning, "Boss," Jack came again, "and there is another case involving an officer sent by His Majesty." β
I didn't look up, "How many cases have there been so far?"
"Forty-three," Jack grabbed his cup and took a sip for himself, "Boss, you said you wouldn't move them for three days, so I'll ask you." β
"All I said was that I wouldn't kill them," I thought for a moment, "you go and bring people up, and judge them first." I just need them to be alive before the sacrifice comes back!"
"Got it!I'll do it!" cried out Jack with joy, but immediately asked again, "Boss, their sins are so serious." β
"In the eyes of the judge, everyone is equal. I smiled at him, "Jack, you are now a military judge, and I want you to assure me that you will not indulge the prisoners because they are slaves, nor will the punishment be aggravated because the prisoners are nobles, and the standard of punishment will be determined by the case itself." β
"Hey, Boss, how do you know?" Jack smiled sheepishly, "I wanted to do that......"
"Because I'm the boss and you're not," I said, "get ahead and get to work! One copy remains with the Judge Advocate General's Office. Give me a copy. One copy to the military department!"
After Jack left, I was still a little relieved, after all, this was the first time he had punished an officer with a temple background on a large scale. I dropped the document and called a few people to the playground.
The townspeople, many of them, sat or stood in a corner of the playground, waiting for the officers of the Judge Advocate General's Office to call them to the viewing platform.
I walked up to Jack and sat down, watching him work.
"Go and bring the tailor," Jack instructed the men around him. "And the officers he was going to sue. β
I took the official documents of the case and looked through them, and it turned out that a tailor had sued several officers for making clothes in his shop without paying for them, and had beaten his own son to death......
After a while, a middle-aged man with gray hair was brought in, and he bowed to Jack with a cower, holding a hat in front of his chest with both hands.
"Sir," he said, "I am the tailor of the town, and everybody calls me Old Ohm." β
The townspeople did not know the rank of the officers, so they called the officers masters.
"Ohm. We already know about you, and your evidence is abundant. Jack said to the tailor, "Now there are a few people here that you need to identify." β
Jack pointed to the officers standing next to him, "Did they kill your son?"
"Yes...... "The tailor's hand twisted the hat on his chest, "Sir, it's them!"
"So, do you have anything else to say about the tailor's accusations?" said Jack to several officers, "do you admit it?"
"Mr. Lieutenant Colonel!" said one of the leading captains, "I admit it, but we do not plead guilty!"
"State your reasons. β
"You know, Mr. Lieutenant Colonel, we are officers sent by His Highness," said the captain, "and it is their duty to serve us, and it is a sin to kill a civilian?
"You don't need to say so much, you just need to answer whether I have this or not," Jack knocked on the table, "and I will judge whether you are guilty or not." β
"We did it. β
"Okay," Jack said, picking up a piece of paper, "the facts are clear. β
"The verdict in this case is as follows, and I find the three officers guilty," Jack said, standing up, "As a military judge, on behalf of the coalition forces, on behalf of the legion, I declare that one of the three officers' personal belongings will be confiscated as compensation for the tailor Ohm, and that the three officers' tools of commission will be confiscated and deprived of one qiΔ of their rights, and the death penalty will be carried out tomorrow!"
"Death ......," the three officers paused for a while, "No! Mr. Lieutenant Colonel, you can't do this! We are innocent! We are not guilty!"
Jack waved his hand, "Pull it down!"
"Judge," the winged officer in charge of execution came to Jack and asked, "what are the tools for committing the crime?
"Stupid!" said Jack, "what do you use to hit someone?"
"Hands and feet," said the wingman officer, "if you can't do it, the wings will work." β
"Isn't that right?" Jack whispered, "...... their hands and feet."
"Yes!"
The winged officer commanded the soldiers to drag the three men away, and immediately carried out the formalities of "confiscation" in the audience, and after a howl, three pairs of bloody hands and feet were placed in front of the tailor.
"Ohm, you can go back," said Jack to the tailor, "and tomorrow they will be executed, and you can come and see." β
The tailor was frightened by a few hands and feet, "Ah, yes, sir!"
"Next!" exclaimed Jack.
Jack had sentenced several cases in a row, and the sentences were all appropriate, and no one knew that he had not understood anything a few hours ago.
Seeing that he handled it well, I was relieved to go back to my tent.
Before I could sit down when I returned to the tent, I heard a cry of helplessness, desolation, and despair echoing through the camp more than ever, and the terrible sound lasted for a long time, and the end dragged on and on.
Jack screwed things up, and my first instinct was to run back to the playground.
Under the viewing platform, several soldiers held down an officer who was shouting, and the strength of the officer covered in blood was so great that several soldiers could not let him calm down...... On the viewing platform, a man was staring blankly at the ground.
"Come here," I said to Jack, "what the hell is going on?"
"Nothing," Jack replied as he walked over to me. "All of them are doing what you taught me. I ordered someone to confiscate this guy's tools for committing the crime. The death penalty is also set for tomorrow, but he just screams louder. β
"Is that all?" I asked, suspiciously, "what did he do?"
"Don't worry sir, this case is simple," Jack said, "and he confessed to raping the bakery's daughter......"
"Oh, I see......" I was about to nod my head, but suddenly I realized what the problem was. grabbed Jack, "Jack, don't sue me...... The tools you confiscated are his...... That ...... of his This is no joke!"
"Boss, what's the problem?" Jack looked innocent, "Could it be that he did this with other tools......?"
"No need Jack, really no need," I said, looking at the "tool" on the ground, shaking my head, "Jack, I think you'd better give him back this 'tool'...... Leave it to me!"
"You!" I said, pointing to the wingman officer. "Come here!"
The Wingman officer ran over, "Yes, sir. Is there something wrong?"
"I command you," I said, "to put to death immediately the officer who raped the womanβto burn him with fire to purify his soul!"
"Yes!"
"Jack, if anyone asks about this officer," I said, turning to Jack, "you say I did it myself...... By the way, you are not allowed to confiscate such tools in the future!"
"Got it, boss!" said Jack, "did I do something wrong?"
"Yes, you did something wrong," I said to Jack gently, "you don't have to worry, it's not terrible to be wrong, it's terrible to not know how to remedy it, you go on." β
After dealing with Jack's mistake, I went back to my tent. I'm short on time, and I have to get everything in order in the three days when no one is doing it right with me.
Meeting after meeting, I was too busy to eat or sleep. Fortunately, I brought more officers with me, and they all knew how to handle general affairs. Thanks to everyone's efforts, there was no trouble in the past three days, and as long as I won the battle against the priests sent by His Majesty, my position in the Ninth Legion would be consolidated.
The priest who had gone to bring reinforcements returned to the camp with a large group of people within the agreed deadline, including the general with the golden light on his shoulders, the high priest and the highest magistrate of the place.
They entered the camp through the main gate, and were greeted by hundreds of gallows under which the officers with missing arms and legs had loops around their necks. Further inside, I was outside my tent, where more than a hundred soldiers of the law enforcement regiment were whipping prisoners, loud and neat commands accompanied by screams...... I don't think they'd ever seen it before, and it was just an appetizer I served them.
As a major general commander, of course, I would greet them at the tent, and I was neatly dressed and had a cordial demeanor.
"Your Excellency Cohen Al Chaida, I have rushed back within the appointed time," the clerk was the first to come over, "and I hope you have kept your promise." β
"Of course I keep my promise to sacrifice my lordship," I said with a smile, "I have done nothing, and I have not killed a single officer, unless someone has made me lose my mind." β
"It is gratifying to hear such news," said the Registrar, "and allow me to introduce you to a few guests. β
"I'm sorry, the barracks are only for official business," my smile faded, "I don't accept guests!"
"Oh...... I'm sorry, Your Excellency, Commander, no...... I mean, Lord God Knight," my sudden turn of face surprised the clerk, "they're not guests...... They are ......"
I had a cold face, raised my hand and gave him a "snap"!
"You give me a memory!" I said, staring at the clerk, "I am the Supreme Commander of the Ninth Legion! You are just my subordinate, speak concisely and clearly! I don't raise waste!"
I just want to play a moody person, and this slap is not only a slap to the clerk, but also to everyone present, so that all those who come with the clerk think about their identity. That way, after a while, everyone won't accuse me at the same time, after all, this is in my barracks, and they need to think about their own safety.
This kind of person, decency always comes first, and they will never risk being slapped by me against me. Even if they can do anything to me afterwards, it will not be worth the loss in their eyes if I slap me or strip off my clothes.
"Your Excellency!" a general in silver armor spoke, "if there is no problem, we will talk to you." β
"Of course," I leaned over to get out of the way, "welcome, General Winterhal Rainey!"
"I'll introduce you to these men if I can," said Winterhar, who was in armor, "and you're not going to beat me, are you?"
"How dare I?" I laughed, "who doesn't know that after the Battle of the Altar, you don't have a good attitude towards me, General. β
"Don't talk nonsense to me," Winterhar said, "This is the chief dispatcher of the Porta Empire. β
I smiled and nodded to the chief dispatcher, generally speaking, the people who hold this position are relatives of the emperor, and I still have to mix in other people's territory, it's not good to offend.
"This is the envoy of the High Priest of the Temple of the Porta Empire," Winterhar continued, "and I happened to be at the military headquarters, so I came together." β
When I looked over, it turned out to be an old acquaintance, the white-clothed priest who had followed me all the way from the Porta Empire to the Holy Capital to award me a medal.
"Lord Bless Knight," he said with a smile, "don't you know me?"
"Lord Sacrifice, how could I forget you?" I said seriously, "My first medal was the one you put on my chest, please forgive me for my rudeness." β
"This is the Governor of this place, the quartermaster of the Allied Army's headquarters," said Winterhall, "and besides me, there is a general in the Army, seven in all. β
I greeted them one by one, "Please come in, I don't have you all, I only have a tent now." β
"Run and call the two Wing Commanders, the Judge, and the Staff Officer," I said to the herald beside me, walking last, "just say it's an emergency meeting!"
"Yes sir!"
I turned around and beckoned, and before everyone was seated, Carlos and his brothers came.
"Sit down," I said, gesturing to the seat next to me, "these officers are from the military headquarters. β
There was only one table in my tent, a long dining table that could hold about 60 people. After everyone had taken their seats, I motioned to the clerk that he could begin.
"Ladies and gentlemen, it is here," said the clerk, whose face was still a little swollen, standing up and speaking in as calm a tone as possible, "that on the first day of his lord's reign as commander of the Ninth Legion, His Excellency Cohen Al Kerda had arrested all the officers from the rank of his deputy, Brigadier General York Bauer, and had them executed. β
"Wait a minute," Winterhar interrupted the clerk with a raised hand, "Your Excellency Cohen Kelda, is there such a thing?"
"Yes. I answered her very seriously.
Winterhar wrote something down on the paper, "Your Excellency, please continue. (To be continued......)
