Chapter 258: The Aborigines' Revenge (Part I)
(Thank you for the tip from "I just missed you"!)
A battle is taking place near Brownland Town on Campbell's southern border.
There were only a few hundred people on both sides of the battle, and it was only a skirmish on the mainland, and even in the kingdom of Sver, but for the deputy commander of Luther at Fort Mark, the battle seemed a little difficult, and now there were less than a hundred of his men left, most of them were not regular soldiers, and the other side was the natives of the Pale Mountains, including kobolds, goblins, trolls, and even centaurs, their number had exceeded three hundred, and they were still increasing.
As we all know, Campbell is not far from the Pale Mountains, and there are often small groups of aborigines running over to harass them, it can be said that both the border guards and nearby villages and towns have become accustomed to this kind of harassment, although the frequency has been somewhat dense in recent times, and the commander of Fort Mark, Lulin, went out with a part of the cavalry, but the remaining thirty cavalry, thirty infantry and twenty archers were led by the deputy commander Luthor, and it was easy to deal with these small groups of invaders.
But who would have thought that this time the enemy would appear in such a huge number, and it would turn out to be a "coalition army"!
This was not the case at first, and a few hours earlier Luthor had received word that forty or fifty goblin cavalry had gathered near the border near Brownearth, as if they were about to launch a surprise invasion of Brownearth. Luthor immediately gathered his cavalry and personally led them as fast as he could, intending to stop the enemy before they could invade the border.
But when he arrived, he found that the number of enemies had increased, and he had to face nearly sixty goblin cavalry, a hundred kobolds, and twenty trolls.
That's pretty cumbersome. The enemy was nearly six times more powerful than their own, and there was no shortage of cavalry and archers, especially the trolls with several spears on their backs, their spears were much more powerful than the short bows and arrows of the kobolds, and even with crude machetes, they were definitely not weaker than the average human soldier.
And most importantly, the vitality of the trolls is extremely tenacious, and the cavalry that Luthor brought over this time are all cavalry, and there is nothing he can do about this talent of the trolls.
The deputy commander immediately sent four cavalrymen, one of whom was ordered to return to Markburg to gather the remaining soldiers, and took out the special standard bows and arrows in the armory and distributed them to the archers, including acid arrows, which were the nemesis of the trolls.
The two cavalrymen were tasked with going to Locke and Brownearth to inform the sheriff of the enemy's attack and to transfer all the town's garrisons to the battle, and the cavalry to Brownearth had the task of informing the lord's butler of the enemy's invasion.
The last cavalry galloped towards Fort Edd, and if they could have soldiers to help them in time, they could wipe out all the enemies.
Luthor then led the rest of his cavalry to embark on an attempted charge, targeting kobolds scattered on the left side of the enemy, creatures that were relatively easy to deal with, and whose bows and arrows posed the least threat to his own cavalry.
When the cavalry broke through the kobolds' formation, Luthor's mood became a little heavy, these enemies did not become chaotic once the natives were disrupted by the rapid charge of the cavalry, but tried to dodge while maintaining a high frequency of attacks. Moreover, the big goblins and trolls on both sides also quickly surrounded this side, but fortunately, Luthor rushed to the front with his strong strength, and crushed all the enemies in front of him, so that the cavalry rushed through the enemy's encirclement in time and retreated to the border as soon as possible.
This charge killed fifty kobolds, but most of the cavalry were wounded, three of them were badly wounded, and two remained forever in the middle of the charge.
Strangely enough, however, the goblin cavalry did not take the opportunity to pursue them, and when they saw that the human cavalry had passed through the kobolds, they returned to their original positions without a pause, and did nothing but roar at the humans in the distance.
"Something is wrong," Luthor thought.
After an hour of stalemate, another team of aborigines appeared in the distance, almost the same number of enemies, and Luthor couldn't help but take a breath when he saw the half-man, half-horse creatures at the back of the group.
"Centaurs!"
This terrifying creature generally lives in the steppes of the northwest of the continent near the endless wilderness, and a small number of them haunt the caves near the water source between the mountains of the Pale Mountains, and they usually do not leave their habitats, how could they follow these creatures and appear on the plains outside the mountains this time!
Centaurs have strong arms and explosive legs, allowing them to gallop extremely quickly across mountains and plains, as well as throw spears with great accuracy at such speeds.
Their legs can be kicked with the strength of a human arm, and they can charge with all their might, almost knocking a cow away, and their thick arms can use their greatsword to get close to enemies and launch fierce attacks.
It can be said that this creature is the nemesis of cavalry of any race, but fortunately, the number of centaurs that appeared this time is not large, and there is no strong person to see.
Luthor narrowed his eyes and commanded the cavalry to retreat, facing such an enemy, he had to wait for all the reinforcements to arrive, and then find a position that was easy to defend and difficult to attack, as for the attack...... I'm afraid we'll have to wait for Idburg's help.
He didn't know what the other party's intentions were, but according to the habits of the aborigines, they would certainly not conquer the fortresses along the way like encroaching on the land, so a strong military fortress like Fort Marker would not be effective at all, and Luthor, as the deputy commander of the border cavalry at Fort Mark, could not retreat and let these enemies wreak havoc on the territory of the country.
It's a pity that when the situation in Campbell became more and more dangerous, Commander Lulin was sent out by an order from the garrison corps, and he didn't even let Luthor know what tasks he was performing, otherwise he would still be able to drive them out with all the forces of Fort Mark.
In the following period, more than 300 natives began to slowly step into the border, ignoring a small group of human cavalry not far ahead, and headed in the direction of Brownearth Town.
Fortunately, the enemy's march was not fast, and Luthor's anxious wait finally ushered in the two garrison squads and the Markburg infantry who arrived at full speed, not to mention that they were still outnumbered, and these soldiers could not immediately enter the battle just by looking out of breath. Luthor ordered everyone to retreat, all the way to the vicinity of Brownearth.
There was a low hill near Brownearth, and Luther unexpectedly found nearly a hundred people who had come to support, not the soldiers of Fort Edd, as he had imagined, but three or four mercenary groups from Locke and Brownland, as well as some young men from two towns.
Many people will die in such a battle! Are these mercenaries who have only seen skirmishes afraid of them?
Luthor expressed his doubts, but according to some of the mercenaries, the lord's butler had posted conscription notices in several towns, and there was an additional clause underneath that Campbell's subjects were given a generous but generous pension if they were wounded or killed in battle to defend their territory, and the disabled were well protected to ensure that they would not be impoverished for the rest of their lives.
As soon as this notice was posted, it caused a heated discussion among the people of Campbell, and even the mercenary group began to commotion, for them, isn't it just to make money by going around to accept commissions?
Many people were tempted, but the notice clearly stated that the start of registration would be fifteen days later, so the time had not yet come, and they could only wait with eagerness.
And then, today, both towns received an early warning and a call for help, so these mercenary groups got together and discussed - we are all lords' lords, and this battle is for Campbell, isn't this our chance to show our loyalty to the benevolent lord?
So here they came, and some hot-blooded young men came, and they gathered together and waited for Luther, waiting for this battle to come.
(This chapter is a bit astringent, and I'm writing the fourth volume, and I suddenly feel that I need to make an outline again, enrich the plot of several lines in this volume, and strive to fight for another five hundred years!, ah, no, try to make the front and back a little more coherent, so there may only be one at 12 o'clock on Saturday, and of course there may be both chapters...... )
