During the palace examination, each candidate handed in his papers and left the venue before the evening, but he was still working the case. The invigilator kept urging, and he cried and begged: "My life's career is on this day, please don't rush me, let me achieve fame!" The invigilator agreed. In this way, he worked hard until the fourth watch before handing in the papers.

But it brought him good luck. Emperor Kangxi knew about this and thought that he had the spirit of hard work, so he named him the champion. However, Jiang Chenying, who was very famous, condescended to Tanhua (third place), and was not convinced, so he wrote a limerick poem:

Look forward to Pengcheng County, the name of Gao Jinshike.

The appearance is like a black body, and the knife and pen are like Xiao He.

Li Pan is the only champion in the history of Xuzhou.

Xuzhou has always been a battleground for soldiers, the people are fierce, the emperor has produced a lot, Liu Bang, Liu Yu, Li Yu, and even the Ming Taizu Zhu Yuanzhang is actually from Xuzhou. This makes Xuzhou people very proud. But when it comes to culture, it's a little bit worse than southern Jiangsu.

Since the imperial examination, it was not until the 36th year of Kangxi in the Qing Dynasty that Xuzhou produced such a champion as Li Pan.

Li Panzi Gen'an, born in the 12th year of Shunzhi, died in the sixth year of Yongzheng. He Kangxi was promoted in 29 years, won in 36 years, and was appointed as the editor of the Hanlin Academy. It's a pity that the good times didn't last long, when he served as the chief examiner of the Shuntian (Beijing) Township Examination in the 38th year of Kangxi, he was exiled to Shenyang because of the dance case, and was rehabilitated and released back to his hometown three years later.

Regarding the case of Kangxi's 38-year Shuntian Kechang dance, there are still controversies in history, and the people of Xuzhou are even more unfair. After all, during the 267 years of the Qing Dynasty, Jiangnan won more than 30 champions, 18 in Suzhou alone, and Xuzhou, one of the dignified Kyushus, was only Li Pan! It can be understood by reason and reason.

After the Shuntianxiang exam, many of the children of big officials were selected, and the students were in an uproar, and Kong Shangren, who wrote "Peach Blossom Fan", made a "Legend of Tongtian List", directly satirizing the unfairness of this exam and the turmoil in the world. Emperor Kangxi had no choice but to try again, although he did not find the dancing behavior, he still exiled the chief examiner Li Pan to Shenyang, and the deputy examiner Jiang Chenying was humiliated and committed suicide in prison; Kangxi also hated Kong Shangren for fueling the trouble, expelled him and returned to his hometown, and dismissed the official of Langzhong. In fact, Kangxi knew that Li Pan was wronged, but because the political situation in the early Qing Dynasty was not stable, he was afraid that the Han people would take the opportunity to make trouble, so he adopted the policy of playing 50 boards each, and settled the matter. Therefore, three years later, Li Pan was returned home without guilt.

Although there is a record in the "Qing History Manuscript" in this scientific research case, there seem to be doubts in the pen. More than 80 years after the incident, Jiang Youquan, the governor of Jiangsu, wrote in "The Biography of Li Pan": "In the thirty-eighth year, the Lord Shuntian Township test, Ortai and Shi Yizhi ...... The famous ministers are out of their doors, and those who are unwilling are the proverbs. After hearing about the matter, the palace was retested, and none of the fallen people were solved; And Lang Zhong Kong Shang Ren was reprimanded for the broadcast of "The Legend of Tongtian Bang", and Pan also fought for three years. Zhao Xue was returned, returned to the forest, and entertained himself with his writings. ”
