Chapter 22: The Old World
(The previous one is a plot foreshadowing)
When Andy and Chrissy finally arrived at their destination in the car, they couldn't help but be shocked by what they saw.
At first, something black appeared in the distance, and as they got closer, the towering black things gradually became more and more numerous, and finally became a unique landscape with a linear distribution.
"A city."
Andy looked at the crumbling tall buildings in the distance, standing motionless like dying giants, telling of how glorious it had been in the past.
In front of them, it is: Denver, the dog city.
What used to be Denver, now Dog City.
When the Atomic Hummer drove into the ruins of this behemoth city, it was also clear why the wasteland people now called it Dog City.
It's all dogs.
Wild dogs of all shapes roamed around the ruins of the city, some of them looked like dogs, others looked hideous and terrifying, their hair falling out, their skin leather to a lead-gray color, and their skin was covered with bones. Like a moving corpse... Or rather.... Dead dogs?
The red sand dust was blown into the ruins by the wind, and the windows of the tall buildings were all shattered, and from below it looked like a cube of honeycombs or monsters with countless black eyes, and the wind blew in from the desert outside, passing through the hollows of the tall buildings, leaving behind strange sounds like ghosts crying wolves.
Andy and Chrissy didn't dare to get out of the car, the demon seemed to be very excited, and roared madly out of the window, and the wild dogs outside were also responding to it passionately.
The wild dogs around him began to gather more and more, at first there were only more than a ten, and now there are more than twenty following the atomic Humvee, Andy has a cold sweat on his face, so many ferocious wild dogs surround him, if he doesn't drive, I'm afraid these dogs have rushed up and tried to tear themselves apart.
"Woo Woo ——!"
There was a rapid barking of dogs in the distance, and Andy saw that all the dogs turned their heads to look at the place where the sound came from, and then ran towards it one after another.
As Andy drove by, he saw the wild dogs besieging a radscorpion.
The huge radscorpion was the size of five or six Denver dingoes combined, but with more than twenty wild dogs, it was almost cowering in a corner.
Although some dogs were violently counterattacked by the scorpions, they were stabbed into the body by poisonous needles and injected with venom and died, or they were suffocated to death by the scorpion's pincers around their necks, but the number of wild dogs around them was only increasing.
"Woo Woo Woo ——!"
Countless wild dogs surrounded the prey, barking intensively to attract the scorpion's attention, and the noise was almost as dizzy as a sonic attack.
After a while, the wild dogs finally swarmed up, and these large, muscular dogs tore the scorpions apart like a pack of piranhas, and then feasted there, saliva running down their bloody mouths, all with scarlet eyes.
"Oh my God.... That's a bunch of monsters. ”
Chrissy had goosebumps all over her body, she hadn't been attacked by dogs, such as being blocked by military dogs when she first arrived at the barracks, but these terrifying herds of vicious dogs in front of her still greatly exceeded her expectations.
The dogs were all wild, and not only that, but they became ferocious and roamed the ruined city.
Some of the enemies may be larger than their individual size, but these wild dogs know how to attack in groups, and with just a few sacrifices, they can destroy the behemoths that would otherwise be able to wreak havoc on the wasteland.
While the wild dogs were splitting their prey, Andy quickly stepped on the accelerator and moved away from the area.
The car continued to drive around the outskirts of the city, and soon, Andy found himself approaching a former park.
There are many broken sculptures not far away, some of which appear to be people and others that look like animals, but no one can say exactly what these sculptures once expressed.
After continuing to drive for a while, not far away, some abandoned cars appeared, and what appeared to be the remains of the scene of a car accident, several cars piled together like building blocks.
"This looks like a former highway?"
Andy stopped the car and looked outside, although it was covered in red dust, but the far side of the road was connected to a viaduct, and from here, it was surprisingly full of cars, densely packed like cans.
Chrissy looked at the strange scene on the viaduct in surprise.
"Why are there all cars on it?"
Andy looked around and saw that there were no wild dogs, so he opened the door and got out of the car to get a closer look.
He walked over to a few cars that had turned into rusty iron and made sure they were all local, as the information on the license plates was like this.
"I guess... The owners of these cars were trying to escape the city. ”
A skeleton lay in the cab, no one knew what these dead men were thinking at the last moment, these cars that had long been scrapped for N years had accumulated a lot of Denver's unique red sand due to the wind and sand.
Andy walked some distance and found that there were many crash scenes among the chaotic cars on the viaduct, in the dense traffic, such an accident was enough to block all the cars on the viaduct, but there were more cars parked at the entrance below the viaduct than on the bridge, and it seemed that everyone was scrambling to try to get there and end up stranded here.
"Wang ——!"
The demon suddenly roared at a place, and Andy looked back to see a red sand dune not far away bulging and rushing in his direction. He pulled out the python and fired three shots at that strange place, and the deafening sound of gunfire was heard far away, accompanied by a splash of yellow blood, a huge radscorpion burst out of the sand, and the bright red sand flew everywhere.
"Be careful!"
Chrissy raised her submachine gun and struck the radscorpion to the side.
Andy took advantage of the scorpion's slight stiffness, turned on the V mode, and shot two shots at the weakest face of the radscorpion, and the bullet instantly exploded the scorpion's head, causing it to twitch and fall to the ground weakly.
"There's really no place to live without this."
Andy pushed his sunglasses and put away his pistol, the scorpion looked even bigger than he had seen before in the desert outside Tibbetts Prison.
Chrissy walked over and kicked the scorpion, whose face had been beaten to a pulp by a powerful pistol.
"Scorpions are really a scourge in the wasteland, many people have died at the hands of this thing, they can not only ambush at night, but also haunt during the day, hiding under the sand without fear of being cooked by the sun..."
Suddenly, Chrissy saw a bit of metal peeking out of the sand next to the scorpion, and she walked over to find that it seemed to be a street sign.
When she pulled the sign out of the sand, she saw a line written on it.
"Route 25."
Just as she was looking at the old metal sign, Andy spotted an uninvited guest.
A tightly wrapped guy in a black cloak, hood, goggles, and scarf stood in a corner peeking at himself.
"Hey! Who are you? ”
Andy looked at this sneaky guy, but he didn't expect that there were still people in this ghost-like place.... Could it be the previously rumored Dog City scavengers?
The guy with his head and tail reluctantly walked out, carrying an iron pipe rifle in his hand.
"This is my field, you can't wander around here."
The sound of his urn breathing came from under the scarf.
Andy felt inexplicable.
"What the hell is this place about? Where is not the field of wild dogs? ”
The mysterious man did not want to continue to discuss the issue, and said bluntly: "No matter what you are doing here, I advise you to come with me to meet our head first, otherwise, things will be difficult to handle, and unruly people will be our enemies." ”
"You guys?"
Andy looked at the man strangely, wanting to confirm the identity of the other party, if it was really those scavengers, it would be fine, but I also heard that there are some bandits and slave traders here, if that's the case, things are not good.
"Who are you? Are you the scavengers in Dog City? ”
didn't think about it, but this title made the other party a little angry.
"Don't call us that!"
He shouted.
"We're not scavengers, call us salvagers!"
Andy frowned, feeling that there was no difference between the two titles.
"What's the difference?"
"If you say no, you don't want to, we're not picking up rags, we're different from those guys!"
The salvage man was reluctant to give any other explanation, and anxiously urged Andy.
"Would you like to come with me?"
You are a genius, remember in a second: Red Sweet Spring:
