Chapter 48: The Light of Hope
A detector at the end of Argos' massive head identified Andy and Daniel.
The roar of electronic sounds like muffled thunder echoed in the air.
"After the test is completed, it is confirmed that the target is prisoner No. 13013, the commissioner, and this unit is here to carry out the prisoner acceptance procedure."
Its head tilted slightly to look at Daniel, who was screaming.
"Scanning.... The target is Prisoner 13162, and the containment is carried out! β
A small door opened in Argos's neck, and several metal tentacles jerked out.
"Don't! What is it! ...β
Daniel suddenly threw off the rope, and Andy didn't know when the guy cut the rope with a metal part that had fallen off the modified car, and actually ran away at this time.
Without waiting for Andy to react, several metal tentacles stretched out like lightning, directly grabbing Daniel in the air.
"Detect signs of escape from prisoners, and execute electric shocks on prisoners who refuse to cooperate!"
Argos roared to himself, Daniel let out a scream, and then was stunned by live electricity, and then swallowed into his stomach by Argos and contained.
Watching Daniel, who had been smoking non-stop, was successfully sent in, Andy also had a phantom pain, he had experienced what it was like....
Argos closed the door to the built-in cell.
"Commissioner, Warden tells you that you can return to Tibbetts Prison to receive your reward after containment is complete."
With that, the meter-tall behemoth turned away, shattering the edges and corners of an abandoned building in the process, leaving a pile of fresh rubble larger than a person on the street.
When the shaking of the earth finally disappeared into the distance, Andy finally breathed a sigh of relief, and looked back to see that K, C, Jeb and the others were still staring straight in the direction Argos had left.
Andy shrugged, presumably Wagner had this expression too....
When he returned to the building, he heard a number of people secretly watching him whispering.
Potter looked at him with a complicated expression.
"God, Andy, I'm almost going to tell everyone to run away from here, how are you and that.... What the hell is connected to? Who are you? Will that thing still come? β
Andy shook his head.
"Nothing... Actually, I'm a spy of a secret organization, specializing in arresting some people with value in various places, and now the only person with this value in Dog City has been captured, so you don't have to worry. β
Potter looked reluctant to figure out if Andy was telling the truth or joking... If that guy goes crazy, he thinks his group is going to be finished.
"Oh, don't be afraid."
Andy comforted him perfunctorily, and Wagner in the crowd looked at Andy with a twinkling expression, and took out a small notebook to write on it.
After a few reassurances that nothing was wrong, Potter was finally relieved.
"It's going to take a while to revamp the car, and Michael says he's got another great idea... Jimmy has been having a great time with your dog lately, I hope you don't mind if he feeds your dog meat...."
Andy listened with interest to the interesting things that had happened recently, and Potter finally got to see them.
"Uh... I hope you don't mind, I have something to ask you for. β
Potter said.
"I know you're going to Boulder City to the north, but now your car is still being upgraded there, and your dog is recuperating, so let's work together a few more times during this time... I have some thoughts that we can't stay in isolation as we used to, that we have been out of communication with NCR for too long, not just in terms of information, but also in terms of trade. β
Andy listened and suddenly thought of something.
"Oh, I have one more thing to tell you."
Potter choked on what he was about to say.
"So... What? β
Andy was thinking of the instructions given to him by the leader of the crypto tribe, Azqi.
"I'm telling you, there's a small tribe called the Cryptographers in a place south of you called Mesa Verde, and I can write and spend the exact location for you, and that little tribe over there is very good at repairing pre-war tech items, and they heard about your existence and wanted to make a trade agreement with you. What do you think of you offering some scrap from Dog City at a low price and sending it to them for repairs, and they pay and provide you with some of the repaired stuff? β
Potter thought about it for a moment, and asked Andy repeatedly if the indigenous tribe called the Crypto Tribe really had powerful repair skills, and finally agreed to the trade agreement.
"I'll have some people form a caravan to go to the south, we need to expand our trade, we can't continue to suffer like this.... We've pretty much done with our quota, so there's extra scrap to trade, and the small tribe you're talking about happens to complement our output, which would be a good choice. β
Pip-boy pops up a prompt.
γYou have established a trade routeγ
[After a period of time, you can get some dividends from the crypto tribe on a regular basis]
Andy looked at this prompt with satisfaction, this time it shouldn't be like the previous loss-making deal....
Potter spoke, going back to what he had wanted to say before.
"One more thing, Andy, I need someone who can play to lead the team... When it happens, I promise to give you dividends. β
Andy waved his hand freely, and after sending back a prisoner, he felt that the weight on his body was lighter, so he agreed nonchalantly.
"Fighting is easy, I like fighting, what's the matter?"
Potter turned back and pulled out the old map.
"Here."
He pointed to a corner north of Dog City.
Andy looked at it seriously, and the beep boy shook, he was too lazy to look at it this time, and guessed that it must be a hint that the map mark is complete.
"Is there anything here that deserves your attention to Potter?"
Andy asked, pointing to the map.
Potter picked up a bottle from the ground nearby. "Wine... It's a good thing, it can relieve sorrow, it can also be used as a commodity.... Before, our drinks were made by Murphy the Bean, I stopped him from making wine because we were running low on supplies, and Reilly and his gang prevented me from reconnecting with the NCR, but now that these problems are gone, I think we need to have as many goods as possible after the trade is established. But, Dou Murphy is dead, right? β
Andy nodded affirmatively, as he had seen Murphy Beans shattered by Bombjack's bomb.
Bot nodded and walked around twice with his hands behind his back, finally standing still.
"We don't have to rely on him, in the area I pointed out, there is a pre-war winery, where the equipment is ready-made.... It's called the Boardwalk Distillery. It doesn't matter if we don't have Beans and Murphy, we can still make better and more wine there, even if that's after we trade and get more food..."
Andy looked at him strangely, wondering why the always conservative Potter was now so confident in the source of supplies.
"Well, but don't you think it's better to build a stronger trade route and get enough food before making this plan?"
Potter smiled, and the other salvage crews laughed.
"Because, Andy, not long ago, we finally got back in touch with NCR.... Mayor Dodge has pledged to continue to honor the agreements we signed, and has even offered to provide us with sufficient supplies through trade links, in exchange for the scrap we salvaged. β
Andy was still a little puzzled.
"However, even then, it will take some time for supplies to arrive, and although I have never been to Hoover Dam, I know that it is far away, and it is very slow for caravans to come with Brahmins."
Potter walked to the side window pointing south of a way to the railway.
"You saw that, didn't you? According to Hoover Dam, they appear to have worked with a force called the Hanging Corpse to repair two important railroads running through the area, one of which is connected to us. They also repaired a locomotive, and it is estimated that in a few days the supplies of the wagons will be delivered, and the hope we have been waiting for has finally come... I've got someone to clear our side of the railroad to keep traffic moving, so in the meantime I need to get more bargaining chips quickly, and the boardwalk brewery is our target. β
"Long live NCR!"
The salvage men shouted, their waiting and persistence now finally had a result, and fortunately, the result was good.
