Chapter 21: The Source of the Great River

The Atomic Humvee drove north along the river, carrying two humans and a brain-controlled robot. This fertile land has its own strongest natives to occupy it, and on the way north along the great river, the terrible confrontation like the one before has not happened again, but it has not reached the point of the last bloody river.

After repelling the third wave of tribes that had stopped or driven them north, their fame seemed to spread, and gradually, the attitude of the natives towards their arrival changed from saber-rattling at first to indifferent to the later.

Andy Chords initially thought that this fierce conflict was due to the natives believing that they were strangers who had rashly intruded into their territory, and that strange strangers roaming around the tribe's territory often meant that the scouts were planning bad intentions.

The land seems to be inherently inherently simmering with violence and strife, with scarce resources and tribes migrating from far and wide spilling blood.

There are too few places like the Mesa Verde region that are as self-sufficient and enjoyable as they are. However, as they progressed, they gradually discovered that the violence they suffered may not be as simple as a rash invasion of territory, and that the closer they got to the north, the more strange places of worship appeared along the river.

The tribal natives have clearly developed many primitive religions based on nature worship, and the existence of these religions that occupies an important place certainly includes the river of life in front of us.

For them, many areas on both sides of the river are probably holy places, one

The sudden arrival of the "steel box" is clearly a blasphemy.

"I think you're right...."Andy muttered a little as he looked at the altar not far in front of him, less than a hundred meters away, some thick trees had been deliberately planted in a clearing, all stripped of their bark and cut off their branches, arranged there in a circle.

At the top of each of these huge sticks were a corpse, male and female, old and young, all of whom had died in a horrific state, their dried corpses still bearing terrible scars.

According to the traditional customs of the tribe, most of these corpses were identified as tribal criminals and slaves, and some were prisoners of war captured during the war.

There was also a stout wooden stake in the middle of the ring enclosed by the nail pile, but instead there was no corpse on it, but instead there were a large number of animal skeletons, the largest of which were the skulls of two-headed cows and bighorn sheep, and the white bones were painted with strange paints and various symbols, which made the atmosphere of the whole sacrificial field violent.

"They sanctified the river, probably because they thought there was some kind of divinity in it, so they set up these things as sacrifices..."The car passed by that strange place, which was empty, only the corpses solidified in the wind.

These scenes are becoming more and more numerous, starting with symbolic stone piles filled with various leather flags, and gradually appearing as tribute platforms with various pieces of vegetables, fruits, animals, and flesh, and then bloody altars using living people as sacrifices.

"If this continues, we may end up breaking into the forbidden land they care about the most, the source of this great river..... What then? I think I'm afraid there will be an even more terrifying war. Several natives in black leather clothes watched them pass by from a distance, the leader carrying a rather conspicuous thigh bone stick, Andy guessed that they were probably quite annoyed at this time, but they tried to restrain their emotions because they had heard some terrible rumors, and did not howl and rush to their deaths like those guys before.

Ignoring them, the car continued to drive forward, and the fellows gradually disappeared into the night.

"Let me show me the map." He lifted the Pip-Boy, and the navigation function on it told Andy that if they continued driving, they would be able to reach their intended destination tonight.

"It's not going to be around the clock, since it's not far away, let's rush over at night, it's really not okay to take a detour, those guys can't stop us." If you really can't... After all, from a macro perspective, we are also for their good in the end. Andy made a decision, and the weak string didn't say anything more, just leaned back in the seat and fell asleep.

Three hours later, the Pip-Boy informed them that they were approaching their destination, so after asking about the status of the strings, everyone got out of the car, and the last part of the road still needed them to grope their way forward with their feet on the ground.

Bizarrely, I don't know if it was because they set out in the night, but there were no roadblocks on the last leg of the journey here.

After a buzz, Andy lights up the Pip-Boy light, and the screen glows with a strong green light.

The tank brain spun its tracks and rushed to a nearby dirt bag at a speed beyond the reach of humans, the high-tech electronic eye was completely unaffected by the lack of light, and by constantly adjusting the parameters, the savanna in the darkness was no different from the daytime in his eyes.

He can even see some small animals in the wild through thermal imaging. But what is more striking than those small heat reactions is a similar building complex in front of us, where there seem to be many buildings, and there are many strong heat reactions, not like living things, but rather bonfires.

"This is the one who stands in the way, this is probably the last group, right? Shall we just kill them all at once while it gets dark? I might be able to create a mess and let them kill each other....." Tank Brain turned back to the two of them, and if they continued to move forward, it was likely that a perceptive fellow would see through the whereabouts of several people and expose them.

Andy hesitated for a moment, motioned for the strings and the cylinder brain to wait in place, he turned off the lights alone and sneaked over to see the situation, if these guys were slack, it would be better to sneak in and sneak in.

The constant conflict along the way really made him feel physically and mentally exhausted. He half-crouched down and slowly touched it, and on the way to the source of the great river appeared a stone house, and there were three or four tents nearby.

Huge bonfires were lit to light up the area around this small campsite. A closer look reveals that this place could not have been a permanent residence of a tribe, as the buildings were so scarce.

Well, the reason why this place was built must also be for some religious intent, and the stone house made of rough strips of stone not far ahead must have been considered a luxurious villa for the natives, since it appeared here..... Andy stretched out his head to scan left and right, and with the faint light of the fire, he could see something floating in the air in the wind, which was often a strange combination of vines, bones, wood, leather, etc., and some tables and wooden stakes were also placed with tributes and sacrifices.

The most eye-catching thing is a giant youkai, almost as big as Andy's car. The bear's brown and translucent skin had been cut off and covered with a totem whose main frame material was the monster's bones.

It is unknown who defeated such a powerful wasteland creature, and if such a creature suddenly launched a charge, it could even outrun Andy's atomic Humvee, and its formidable power can render humans incapacitated with just one blow.

But even so, it still died, and it was probably nothing to those natives who were not afraid of death.

Just as he could see his thoughts, there was a sudden noise behind him.

"Who?!" Andy was taken aback, and instantly pulled out his gun and lit up the beep boy turned around to check, to his horror, there were seven or eight natives standing silently behind him, these natives were solemn and gorgeous, and they barely reacted to Andy's muzzle.

At the head was an old lady, surprisingly old, a rarity among the tribes of the wasteland, whose pale hair fluttered in the wind, and a large array of various amulets draped over her intricately patterned linen garments, and wrinkles on her face as deep as canyons.

She opened her mouth and shuddered some hoarse words, but she didn't understand them. At this moment, a middle-aged native next to him suddenly spoke to Andy in lingua franca.

"Old Grandma asked, are you going to enter the Holy Land?"
